Answers to FAQ’s Anal Glads I clean the anal glands at the owners request. It is important that the dog itself express their anal glands. The anal gland is a muscle in the dog’s rectum and the more you manually do it the more you’re teaching the dog not to use it’s muscle. Honestly groomers really shouldn’t express anal glands. If the anal glands are compacted a vet should be doing it but if your dog is having issues with anal glands you should add fiber to the diet. Music Unfortunately I can’t use the complete shop noise because we play music in the background that I can get copy written for so I have to drown out that music with something or no sounds at all. If I put in background music I can leave a little shop noise in. So, I will always add music unless it is not necessary to do so. “Roughness” During the bath I speed up the time to trim the video shorter in length so, things may seem “rougher” than they actually are because what you’re watching is a bit distorted. Also, when you hear me firm with a dog it is to train them for safety reason so they do not get seriously injured now or in future grooming appointments. Scissors & Matting I didn’t use scissors because they are way more dangerous than clippers. Clippers I can pull away quickly but shears are very sharp so if the dog moves I could’ve cut him/her really bad. Groomers are actually taught never to use shears to cut out a mat because it’s so dangerous. I’ve seen so many instances where people (owners and groomers) have cut dogs bad because they were trying to cut the mat out quick and actually cut the dog. Voiceovers Voiceovers go hand in hand with the music. My viewers like to know what is going on and what tools I am using and why. We also like to discuss topics related to dogs so I will talk about that in my voiceovers. I will always do voiceovers unless it is not necessary to do so. Video Angles I switch up my angles so that the majority gets a view they like. If you’re looking for a head mounted view that is typically Wednesdays or point of view could be Mondays or Fridays. Stationary camera view is either Mondays or Fridays Coddling Dogs/Puppies I don’t coddle dogs during grooming because grooming is a serious matter dealing with sharp tools that can injure a dog greatly. If a dog or puppy is throwing a tantrum I will not stop to hold or comfort the dog because they don’t understand like we do. They consider that rewarding. So, by me “comforting” them during a tantrum or spastic moment, it is actually backfiring and training them that if they act up the groomer will stop and they will get what they want. Which is how dogs end up getting hurt during grooming and hating it. So, play time is for before or after grooming and never during. Assumptions This final one is not a question but more of an assumption some people have. Some people assume, because I didn’t put it in the video, it didn’t happen. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. As groomers and editors, we cut out a lot of “unnecessary” content so what you are watching is NOT actually how the day went. So, if you have a question of whether or not something happened during the process that is NOT in this pinned comment, please feel free to ASK and NOT ASSUME. Shampoo/Conditioning I do NOT use a lot of shampoo. The bottles that I use are mixing bottles and are predominantly water. I thoroughly wet the coat and scrub them really well which creates the nice lather so they are actually clean when I am finished. Ears Yes I clean and pluck ears but only when necessary. If a dog has clean ears, there is no need. If a dog has matted ears and matted hair in the ear canal, I won’t pluck the ears if I have to shave the ears down to avoid hematomas. Yes I put cotton balls in the ears for certain dogs who are prone to ear infections and I use happy hoodies for senior dogs or noise sensitive dogs. If you ask me something that is in this section, I will respond, refer to the pinned comment. Also, know I have very sarcastic humor and in general a sarcastic person (not in a bad or annoying way lol) so if you comment something sarcastic or smart mouth, I will reply with something sarcastic in return 🤣🤣 Thank you all for the constant love and support and I’ll catch you in the next video 🙏🏾❤️❤️ For The Luv Of Dogs 🐶
Oh I hate sinusitis issues! I use a mist Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray. Nasal passages can get inflamed and they touch. Not a good feeling. The mist opens the passageway and some of the Rx stays within the cavity. I hope this relieves you!
Oh my goodness. You are so on my wavelength. Totally agree with everything you said about spay and neuter. The other thing neutering can do is turn an already nervous dog 100 times worse . I tell everyone to wait till their dogs are at least 2-3 years old preferably longer. The other option is the chemical sterilisation for male dogs , which is a hormone implant and will give you a really good indication as to how your dog will be behaviourally afterwards. It will also show if any coat changes take place as well. If it’s all good then when the chemical wears off get them castrated. If the results are awful then you know not to neuter. The dog will go back to how it was
I like the idea of a dog behavior video as long as it states how the owner's reaction to the situation can either deescalate, or escalate negative behavior in the dogs. Otherwise we aren't getting the complete picture of how behaviors interact with each other.
Yes it will definitely speak about owners reactions as well. That’s the only way I believe people can actually learn about their dogs and how to work with their dogs and truly understand them
I love watching everything you do. You are good with the dogs no matter what. You never know the behavior. Sometimes think you will get bit, but you know exactly what to do
Having the same sinus issues so it’s likely same cause - allergies. Hate to tell you but it will get much worse when you become a senior citizen. My nose literally drips ( a LOT) when I’m hot (for any reason) and quite often when I eat. Those two problems began around age 60, but sinus problems have been a lifelong struggle. My brother nicknamed me “K Runny Nose” when we were little kids. I don’t take prescription meds anymore because they’re too expensive. I have a bottle of Afrin on my nightstand, coffee table, purse and car console. So yeah, I understand where you’re coming from.🥰
Lol yes, I used nasal spray all the time previously but my nose stopped relying on it. Sinus issues are rough. Mine are always triggered this time of year so definitely brought on by allergies
Let's talk about allergies. I've suffered with allergies for so many years, it runs in both sides of my family; but there was only one thing that really helped me: the nose surgery that corrected my deviated septum. All the other things (medications, diets, homeopathies and acupunctures) were just palliative and temporary solutions. My advice to you is try to find a good holistic doctor that could help you understand your body health a little better. Allergies can be really complicated and tricky. Believe me! I will watch everything you post in your channel because your are a very knowledgeable and capable professional!👍👍👍
I will definitely look for one. I’m currently switching my dog to a holistic vet. Awesom! I’m glad to hear. I do wanna switch up some content Thank you so much 🥰🙏🏾
I am a retired groomer and you are one of the few i would actually allow to groom my dogs. I dont believe I would watch the vidoes your speaking about but can see the benifits for many. Far as passive agressive, sometimes they are just saying no, I dont like that in the only way they are able. its not always passive agressiveness.
Thank you so much 🥰🙏🏾 and thank you for you’re feedback. I definitely understand. I can agree with that partly. Wouldn’t passive aggressiveness be saying no or I don’t like that passively. So not aggressive but little things like turning their head knowing it’s not what they’re suppose to do. Or slowly sitting down when they know you want them to stand lol. I’m laughing because I’m thinking of the dog I groomed yesterday doing it 😂 it makes me laugh because it’s like, we ask the dog why would you do that like they’re gonna respond but yet we still ask anyway 🤣🤣 I’m sorry I just made myself crack up 😂😂
Juest to let you know there is a type of bacteria that lives in the back of your noise which can be causing the problem you need to go to a noise specialist for them to see what type of bacteria and then hopefully that would work
Teaching dominance, and teaching good behavior versus bad behavior. A lot of the time when dogs are puppies the mom teaches these things but so many people are getting dogs too young and the mom isn’t able. Usually when a dog’s misbehaving it stems from a dominance, lack of socialization or the dog not knowing that the behavior is unacceptable because in their mind they think they are more dominant or they have never had someone teach them or train them and have never been properly socialized. So, Beckmann uses his dog Prince and him as well to teach the dogs in their natural nature proper behavior and try and correct their behavior. His channel is very informative you should check it out because this is your first time owning a pup right?
Glad you say we can agree to disagree. Behavioral problems stem mostly from how dogs are raised, but also think genetics can factor into it too. Most of the purebred dogs you groom are probably from backyard breedings...temperament is not even considered. The dog you are grooming in this video looks nothing like a Shih Tzu in the face. I have just recently started watching your videos and not even ten minutes into the first one I knew you were good with handling dogs...you are in charge, not the dog(s). I have watched some of the videos of the person you refer to but do not care for some of his techniques. If I had a dog that was aggressive towards other dogs maybe using another dog to correct him/her would help, but if it is aggression towards humans then get straight to the problem..the dog on dog thing leads to mostly a pissing contest. Prince has good conformation, so I am sure he came from a breeder who has dogs that are bred for beauty and brains. Again, we can agree to disagree. Hormones can be part of a male dog's aggression, and neutering can reduce it. In case someone should think I am full of it--I was a breeder, owner, handler of champion show dogs for over 30 years, along with being a vet tech for over 45 years, and a professional groomer for about 30 years. We all have our own beliefs and techniques and can learn from each other. You do a great job with the dogs, watching you brings back many memories. Thank you for sharing.
Yes I agree with this. Me and my partner were actually talking about this the other night (we like to have convo’s like this) and she brought up some points that I didn’t think of kinda like you did and it made me think lol.
I cannot see anyone grooming a dog for 2 to three hours solid. The dog would be shattered, grizzly etc. And so would the groomer great job satisfaction I think not. Love from the dog.... Eh no.....we used to groom a quarter of a dog every night as he wasn't too keen on being brushed etc.... Our female dogs would bring their brushes. We had 3 female dogs and 3 daughters and each daughter loved to groom a dog..... I think the dad owner is really thinking when he says cut them short, takes pressure off of him spending ages trying to groom them and everybody becoming fractious. I love how you explain a lot of what your doing and why.. I think Sasha is the contrary dog. You go left, she goes right. Stand is sit etc maybe a touch of selective deafness even (I have a husband and a dog like that. The cat is 'normal!!!). Neutering Dogs... Our vet won't neuter any dog on request because of age n stage of growth and development. Also they will try' the pill' based on reducing the hormones, the aggression etc. If it helps they will neuter if not.... No neutering. Well like her very large sister Stella, Sacha is so pretty after her spa day. Sacha's tail is gorgeous but that hair definitely has a mind of its own!!! So good letting have her paws.... I had tap dancing /river dancing German Shepherd Dogs. My daughters dog who we look after now had lots of bad habits which have now changed with the exception of 'it's my paw, you ain't getting it. Now if we can't get her paws, I wouldn't give him to a groomer. The nail clippers are always just there at hand.... And if we get two nails nipped it's fantastic, we are so easy pleased 🤣🤣🤣
