Lovely tour:) Visited Bologna many years ago, and it looked exactly the same. These medieval Italian cities always seem frozen in time. And that is part of the charm.

Thanks. Yes, the lack of modern architecture is certainly part of the appeal.

Hi jack , as mentioned before I lived in Italy for a while and I went to Bologna several times . The town is really easy and cheap to reach with train from Roma . The people are super nice and less stressed and uncomfortable like the Romans . Regarding its history though the living standard is high but the people are more left oriented and intellectual who I found very nice to come in contact with .

Yes, Bologna is definitely more laidback than Rome.

Nice thumbnail. Hope you enjoy your trip to Bologna, even though the hotel is not cheap, even though it's off season, cold and cloudy in December and English level is low I think, so my guess is you spoke and order the food in Italian.

Seems a ragu is a general term for minced meat sauce that simmered and braised while Bolognese is specific to the region. A Bolognese sauce usually starts with the vegetable combo of onion, celery, and carrot. While a ragu sauce is more meat based. Hope you enjoyed a Moretti too.

Interesting. But you won't see the name "Bolognese" in Bologna - only ragu. This makes me assume that Bolognese might be an international name that people from Bologna, the original home of the dish, don't use.

@@JackRoaming Correct. Similar to the New York Strip steak. You'll find steaks not labelled such in NYC but it's known that way around the country.

@ Even better. You're not gonna find a local calling it that.
