For a long time I had a wish to see Europe and its culture .people living standard. Now today I would like to thanks u for helping to make a visit of French city leyon. I enjoyed a lot during watching this great vedeo. How fine old archtecture of city . How nice greenary over there. Nice river. Everything is fascinating. During watching it seemed that I was live there. Again thanks 👍. I fom India.
Man, those andouillettes, even if you paid me money I wouldn't eat that. I'm french but I can't do this type of food. Older people usually can handle it, not younger people me. Steak and fries with peppercorn sauce is the way to go. Nice video!
Really good stuff guys. 👏👏 Like you I try the local dishes but they aren't to everyone's taste, so kudos for having a go. We have made friends with Greeters in a couple of French cities & visit Lyon next month so they will no doubt introduce us to more gastronomic offal!! La Tassee is right near where we stay but seems is now closed which is a shame.
31:44 On sunny days, you can take a small train that runs on the track you see to the left, or rent a rowboat or pedal boat to go out on the lake, or sometimes pedal-powered family road vehicles. If you go near big trees early in the morning without a dog, especially in summer and fall, you'll probably see red squirrels.
As a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, I think maybe quenelle is an acquired taste so don't let your first taste turn you off. Lyon also has many delicious dishes made with caramelized onions or different types of sausage so do try those sometime. The bouchons are good, but honestly it's hard to get a bad meal in Lyon so even cafes or food halls are top notch. Even prepared food from the grocery stores is yummy!
Hi Linda, thanks for commenting! I agree....I didn't feel like we had enough time there to even scratch the surface of just how good the food scene is there. Hopefully one day we can make it back to dive in a little deeper!!
8:18 Hardly anyone takes this wheel except tourists, because for 1/8 of the price, or just by walking, you can climb one of the two main hills (Fourvière, the praying hill, or Croix-Rousse, the working hill) and get a much better view of the whole city.
Thanks for the informative videos on France. My wife and I are heading to Paris, Dijon, Beaune and Lyon in 3 weeks and really appreciated your content. We're retired but we seem to travel much as you do - pace, interests and general cost - and we really like your relaxed, unpretentious videos. And we love the trains! All the best!
If you plan to ever come back in Lyon, don't forget that in early december there's the festival of lights in the whole city and if you climb up the hill of Fourviere again, incase you haven't noticed, you can take the funicular instead of walking.
Thanks! Yeah we knew there was a funicular but didn’t think the walk would be bad. We’ve heard about the festival but this trip was last minute, like really last minute so our overall planning wasn’t up to speed.
Very good quality on the "filming." Those food pictures just drove me crazy. Thanks for sharing, new sub. I wish you would have shown the breakfast at Marriott.
Thanks for watching and for subscribing Daniel!! Yeah they had a nice spread for the breakfast there, not sure why I didn't film any of it. I think because it was pretty busy and I just felt weird filming. But anyhow, take our word for it, it's good!!
Thank you for sharing your experience at Lyon, I loved the restaurants, we are visiting this month so I had a quick question...regarding the COVID test, what is that you needed to do before going back home, like with the results, how do you get them and show at airport?
Hi Abix, thanks for watching and I’m sure you’ll have a great time Lyon just like we did. We appreciate the kind words. We filmed this in December and had to take a Covid test before heading home. At this time you may not even have to, to be honest. I would just check and see via google. I’m sure it won’t be a big deal.
@@mattnrach2016 oh okay cool, glad you had fun! I’m going to be there for 8 days this year starting with the last day of the Festival of Lights, so I’m very excited! Cheers
22:18 Here you see only 1/3 or what you could see on a clear day: No Dombes, no Alps, no Monts du Lyonnais in the Horizon. No high speed train viaduct nor nuclear powerplant in the distance… But you are lucky, because sometimes the visibility is 1 meter in the fog.
I think 3-4 days would be great. If we did it again we’d definitely spend more time there…possibly even take a day trip out to the Rhône Valley for wine tasting.
Hi I'm a female solo travelling to Lyon. I don't speak French so I wanted to ask if it will be an issue? I've heard most Frenchies do not speak English
I'm French and I never visit Lyon, Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux or Nantes! These cities of the islamic califat of Frankistan are very d4ng3r0us! 120 knlve 4tt4cks a day in my country.
Lyon is my hometown so I'm surely biased on this comment but God, you come to UNESCO capital of gastronomy, you go to a nice bouchon and you order... pasta! Hmmm... Ok maybe a misstep... Then you go to Halles de Lyon (great) to finally eat in a pizzeria nearby! Seriously? Why not McDonald's? Sorry guys, I stopped the video there and give you a 👎 What an embarrassment 😢
First of all. Thanks for watching. Second, how about you go out In Your hometown and make a video how you think it should be. I’ll be waiting to see the final product. Good luck 👍
@@mattnrach2016 Moving goalpost and condescending remark instead of responding to a legit observation. Hmm not the best way to build a community, but at least you are consistent with the poor choices of the video 😉 No bad feelings tho, wish you the best in your adventures

31:34 This is where I discovered Guignol as a child, Lyon's historic and iconic *puppet show* , although its museum is in another part of town.
31:30 This part of the park, La Roseraie, is magnificent, scented by thousands of colorful roses in spring.

looking forward to see Lyon someday... great and clear video but i've notice your wife look very tired maybe on to much travelling.
26:09 You've missed the main winter event specific to Lyon if you haven't seen this city at night on *DECEMBER 8.*
You shouldve gone to the wallace, great pub when the Rugby or football's on.
We feel like there was a lot of Lyon left to uncover. Hopefully we will get back there someday.

no don't worry, I'm French from Lyon and I can tell you that the people there are friendly, just avoid the Guillotière district.

Pizza and pasta in Lyon ??????
Sounds crazy right but we had been eating French food at that point for 8 days straight. We still got some locals meals in. Need to go back for sure.

Did you have any issues being an English speaker?
Hi, no we didn’t actually. Most of the people there could understand at least a little bit of English.
great , you wife is a little embarrassed to speak 😅
