Installing an E-Fuel Kit In a 7.3 Powerstroke

- This video has been a long time in the making. I had to take the bed off my truck to get to the sending units, and that lead to me Sandblasting ( • Truck Frame Restoratio... ) and Painting ( • Truck Frame Restoration ) the frame of my truck before I could install this kit.
I recently purchased the Marty's E-Fuel kit for the OBS fords, yes...PURCHASED...no, they didnt send it to me for free. I spent $1400 of my own money on this kit because, through a lot of research I felt it was the best kit on the market. You might be able to find a kit for cheaper, but in all reality, you get what you pay for.
While the installation of electronic fueling in these 7.3 Powerstroke is not a hard job, it can be somewhat time consuming. You really don't need any specialty tools, you can get it done with a basic mechanics set. While this was definitely easier having a car lift, you could accomplish this with the vehicle on the ground.

Great install video man. I know it was a big hassle but definitely worth it in the end (The CAT filters look sharp👍.) Too bad the pump was bad right out of the box. At least it didn’t take long after that to get a good one installed, and get back up and running.
BTW congrats on hitting over 1,000 subs! Well deserved man🥳!
Thanks man! Very happy with the kit!
Appreciate the video! Slowly chipping away at it thanks to help from the video
Glad it’s helpful!
Great information. Well executed install.
It was a fairly simple process. Involved, but simple.
Nice install video. I still need to do this on my obs
It’s a great upgrade!
i did this with this and that . on my 97 hd . clean valley . quik , strong start .i used a oem pump for an E 2 50 with stroke and got a water fuel separator from Napa. foss regulator . reversed flow so fuel enters heads in front. exits rear. fluid filled guage on engine. "key on" runs pump. i have 50 psi at crank. cost 350$ and a day of fiddling. i thew out the ford , filter housing and mechanical pump. capped cam hole with custom plug and bolt down bracket using original holes. also had badly leaking ( violently , more like) hpop output lines. at the pump /boss fittings.i tried all the suggestions and new fittings and even custom made high pressure hoses. all leaked. violently..... finaly drilled out 1/4 output ports to 3/8 pipe thread . no more leaks. was tricky but im sure some of you get why i did that. proof is 1ook later , no leaks. currently at 316k and goin strong. i threw floating drum rear brake axle away also. replaced with 2001 f 250 limited slip , 3/73 , disc brake 3/4ton axle. just had to weld shock brackets on from old one and assemble a bastard joint and.... BAM! . then i used 2001 front rotors and old pads to fit thicker rotor . all late metric wheels fit now. love how it stops .
Sounds like you got it all figured out! Nice work!
@@EverythingElliott nope .never got transmission shifting right. runs good though
@@KevinFreist that’s odd, you do fluid and filter in the transmission?
Hi, nice vid. This helped immensely in my recent install. This is probably a silly question but how do I use the water separator? Do I have to drain it? I seem to be having a slow leak just from the separator.
You should drain it about every oil change. And where is it leaking from, the gasket? I would take the separator off, check the gasket, clean both the gasket, and mounting surface and reinstall.
@@EverythingElliott leak source is not apparent. Just seems to be a drop of fuel in cohesion to bottom of nipple. Which Inturn is dropping on floor. I was thinking maybe the drain is slightly loose. I’m assuming the nipple gets turned and that is how you drain them.
@@lewisgolding6010 that is correct
Quick question the front hoses on the head did you connect them together or did connect to the return on the regulator?
The hoses that come off the front of the head go to each side of the regulator, and the return hose comes off the regulator to the selector valve
When I get this kit what bracket do I order for the filters if I want them to be visible under the bed
You want an outside the frame rail mount
Would you recommend getting a high flow kit? Or the regular flow works just fine? Upgrading to stage 2 not sure if regular e kit will keep up.
Don’t quote me on this but I believe the standard kit flows a gallon a minute. If you call Marty’s they would be more than happy to steer you in the correct direction
I know this is late, but I'm curious about how you hooked up a water in fuel light, or a fuel pressure gauge that goes into the cab. Thanks.
Never too late to ask questions! Did you think I didn't read the comments?! I didn't hook up the water in fuel light as there's no sensor to tap into in the water separator filter. I will just check it every so often. If you want to set up a fuel pressure gauge in the cab, the simplest way to do it would be to get an electronic one, hook the sensor into the port where I installed the gauge, run the wire into the cab and put it where ever you desire. The regulator with this system is a pretty high quality one, so you shouldn't have any issue with setting and forgetting. That's my plan of attack on monitoring fuel pressure.
@@EverythingElliott ok, thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it.
Hey i know this video was posted 6 months ago but how are you liking it so far? i’m having some fuel issues with mine and thinking about getting this to clear out the engine bay
I like the kit, came with everything needed plus some extras. I haven’t driven my truck in like 4 months because I put it away for the winter, but it didn’t miss a beat after the kit was installed
@@EverythingElliott I'm also interested how it's performing once it has some hours/miles put on.
@@solanaceae2069 it drove flawlessly on the second half of last summer. I'm hoping to get the truck out in the next month or so!
Is your front tank plastic? I am so sick of steel tanks rusting out… very jealous of that and need to find one now
My front tank is plastic, my rear is not. You can get an OBS bronco tank and install it
Great video , gonna make my install alot easier. Stupid question did your order the upgraded wahl bro pump with it or the bosch
I got the standard bosch pump
Where in New York you located? That’s a nice garage too! Enjoyed the content I have a 01 excursion with a 7.3 I got up baldwinsville way, frames crusty but it’s good shape otherwise.
Western NY. Those excursions are getting tough to find! Would be worthwhile to get it fixed up!
@@EverythingElliott for sure! Since I bought I’ve spent more time under the hood than in the seat but I’m going through fixing all the typical failures of the thing! The fuel tank mod is next
What’s the reason why Marty’s wouldn’t want to replace or have some type of buying security for a brand new fuel pump? I’m not comfortable with buying something of this extent with a possibility of it not working when I receive it. Help me out here Marty’s
Well they say they won’t warranty it but you’ll see that they actually did replace mine free of cost
What filters are you running for the new kit
I'm running the Cat long filters
Would you get this kit again or go with something different?
I would get it again, realistically my only complaint was the mounting bracket due to my cab/bed setup, but as you saw in the video it was easily fixed with a quick trip to the hardware store
@@EverythingElliott I've heard some pumps are loud is this one quite or are they all pretty loud?
@@jacobn516 they are all a little noisy, however you only hear it when you turn the key on, as soon as the engine is running you can’t hear it
I've done this on my standard cab long bed and my short bed extended cab. The kits are pretty nice. They are not just a "bolt on" style. Some modifications to the truck and kit are necessary depending on the application.
Will it work on a 7.3L IDI
I don’t see why not. They are basically the same engine

fuel pump push rod. When I changed mine out ,I took out the retaining bolts on the fuel pump Got in and hit the starter for a second and the fuel pump popped out.
That’ll accomplish the same thing as spinning the alternator. I just happen to be lucky enough that my cam was up

@@EverythingElliott did you ever figure out which cylinder has low compression?
@@basketofdeplorables4253 No I didn't and thats low on the priority list as I'm building a 12V for it
Why would they say they wouldn't warranty a brand new pump. Good that they did though.
Not too sure to be honest, even though they did….
What is the price Canadian
Not sure you’d have to ask Marty’s…
Wow, lots of work, basically just to fix a small fuel leak? I have absolutely no issues with the stock fuel setup, runs great always has. If I ever get a leak, I'll just replace gaskets/orings as appropriate.
And what was that part about them saying they don't warranty the fuel pump? So they sell a system and offer no warranty? I see they replaced it for you, as they should have, but that didn't quite make sense. They damn well better replace anything that is faulty from one of their kits.
I would say it was time consuming, but not difficult. And the warranty issue comes from Bosch. Something about diesel not being on the list of liquids for warranty. I understand because Marty’s isn’t producing the pump, just simply providing it from Bosch. But as you saw they warrantied it for me, they are super good people and have great customer service.
When can I drop my truck off.
This video should have everything in it for you to DIY it!
@@EverythingElliott I know, just kidding. Super informative, well done
too much road debris around here to have that thing almost dragging on the ground
You can get the shorter filters as part of the kit if you’d like

@@EverythingElliott love the video but I’m 90% on my guess 😂
What a waste of money. I have a 2001 f350 4dr 4x4 flat bed with over 320 thousand and never done anything but replace a wire harness to Injectors and replaced up pipes to get rid of those crappy factory ones. save your cash take care of your 7.3 and drive it like your human and not a crazy person and it will treat you well.
Sorry you feel I wasted my own money. That being said it is my truck, my money, and I don't feel like it was a waste. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Considering you have a 2001 you already have this from the factory, so the mechanical fuel pump is not an issue you have had to deal with.
If you would know your truck you would know your nbs have lot of factory upgraded component vs the obs
@@levesquejp4964 Thank you...
His year truck unlike yours doesn't have a factory electric fuel pump. Thank you for adding and commenting About things you know nothing about obviously.
@swampdonkeyriders yes he was correct in buying those parts. Iwas wrong for my comment. I did not realize that and shouldn't have jump the gun. I apologize to all.
