    yes, I've found the same thing because your body and jab are going in different directions. Tried to make the jab drop down, come on a slight angle downwards, as opposed to slipping and throwing the jab straight. almost let the jab come down with your weight as slip to the right. You are basically driving the jab down and through the guy while slipping slightly.

    the video will be a digital download so shipping won't be an issue. However, if you prefer a DVD I can ship one no problem. I already have a footwork dvd, if you are interested then check out my blog in the description above.

    I used to go with a right hook to the body a lot, right hook then either left hook or right uppercut. thx for watching

  • @PrecisionBoxing
    @PrecisionBoxing  11 років тому

    Double or triple up on the jab to really close the gap then throw it. You have to touch them with the jab before you let it go. Throw the right hand to the body first, go right hook body, right uppercut,... or right hook body, left hook, straight right to the head.
    make sure your feet are moving with your hands, if you miss the first right hand then throw another left, then right. or move your head and throw another combo, don't let them off the hook after just one right hand missed

    thx, I have a video on the jab, another video on the right hand, and a video on the left hook at different ranges, i also have a video on the uppercut. Just watch them on my channel and i'm sure you'll get a lot out of them

    anytime you duck your back foot will tend to be on the ball of the foot and your front foot will tend to be flat. If you slip left your right (back) foot will turn a bit and be on the ball of the foot, if you slip right this won't happen, in both cases your front foot will be planted. However, at all times you need to keep your weight on the balls of your feet, even if your foot is flat you should still be able to slide a sheet of paper under your heel.

    yea, i didn't even see this comment when i gave my response and it seems like we are thinking exactly alike. You are spot on. active defense was one of my secrets, I could block, parry and slip and not alway be predictable with how I would block shots and get inside.

    dont worry if it has power your not, if you land it that is the key, once you land the overhand right then it will be much easier to follow up and land the left hook. focus on bringing that overhand right short and fast after the jab, just touch leather to the guy's face, you'd be surprised how much power a clean shot has even if you don't go all out. I guarantee he's not gonna like it

    I used to get that. It sounds like inflammation of the ligament that runs over the knuckle. Wrap your hands, use BIG gloves on the bag and don't hit the bag as hard until it heals. You shouldn't be hitting the bag hard anyway (Unless you are Specifically trying to develop the hips, core, shoulders and triceps. So give that a go.

    When I throw the right hand, this is assuming after I've worked my way in via a short jab and positioned my self?
    I didn't realize how frustrating it is for shorter boxers. The right hand is all but useless we learn how to use properly.

    I hate the overhand right, seems like such a cheap punch which requires no skill. In my opinion it's for meatheads who can't box, but if you have included it in your combo then clearly I must be wrong.

  • @T1Oracle
    @T1Oracle 9 років тому

    I'm sure this is great with gloves in boxing, but it wouldn't work bare handed. You would risk hitting the small joints of your fingers on their head. Even if you hit with the right set of knuckles your hand won't be stabilized by your forearm so the risk of breaking your hand would still be high. Gloves change so many variables.

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  9 років тому +6

      T1Oracle You are definitely right that not having gloves changes a lot of variables. All my videos are geared towards the use of gloves.

      JT Van V Of course, you're teaching boxing. I mostly came to see what lessons I could learn from a martial arts perpesctive. I feel that I have learned, so you are doing a really good job. Keep it up.

    • @gregk199
      @gregk199 9 років тому

      +T1Oracle disagree. overhand right is supposed to hit the end of your jaw or nose thus their weak point. If you don't have aim that is a problem

    • @T1Oracle
      @T1Oracle 9 років тому

      +Greg K Precision aim in a street fight is not something you want to bet your health on. People don't just sit still like punching bags do after all.

    • @gregk199
      @gregk199 9 років тому +1

      T1Oracle Once again it is called aim and you develop hitting a moving target through sparring. Plenty of people have applied boxing on the streets.

    Thank you, the overhand right is one of the best punches to use against the philly shell, even a double right like Mayorga vs Forrest. BUT, this is not going to work against Floyd, his defense is more about him and his skills than it is about the philly shell. A lot of fighters use the philly shell and can't come close to what Floyd does. To beat Floyd you have to be both better and faster, its like trying to have a strategy to beat Usain Bolt, without the speed no strategy will cut it.

  • @PrecisionBoxing
    @PrecisionBoxing  12 років тому

    when I first boxed I got beat post to post by this guy with lots of experience, it took me years before I could hang at his level, so if these guy are better than you then it will take time. However, the reason your are probably backing up is because your defense is not sharp and tight enough. If you can see and block the punches then you should be able to hold your ground then counter back, or block then come back. You need to really work on your defense. Watch Winky Wright fights

  • @PrecisionBoxing

    I have to say I don't know exactly what is going on, you might need to officially get it checked out. There was a time when I wrapped my hands with two wraps, or I would add small sponges and hockey tape. don't miss out on training, protect your hands as much as needed. maybe you need better gloves.

    Don't be frustrated, sparring partners will figure out your patterns pretty quick and will get to know you, in a fight it's different. But you gotta move your head and fake to make it less predictable.

    thx, you know how it is first hand through your stable mates. I think the most important thing a shorter fighter needs to work on is footwork and head movement, you gotta slip punches and use footwork to get inside and keep pressure on a moving opponent. Not all shorter fighters fight like this though, some have a high guard and walk their way in like Cotto. You also need a high work rate once you are on the inside. but overall footwork and headmovement.

    it happens a lot, Tyson used to do this as well and sometimes step through. I think it depends on what you are setting up next, it will be harder to get a left hook if you lean forward and lift the back foot, i guess you have to know what you are trying to do and learn from the mistakes.

However, My slip jab is most "bitch jab" you ever saw in your life. Any tips on how to get more power in my slip jab? I am extremely tall (6'10) and am usually proud of my jab...but once i'm leaning either side...I lose most of my power in my jab.

      oh this punch, GGG often throws something like this to the body. Take your time with it to condition your wrist, it only hurts because it's new and your wrist is not used to the position. build it up. It will be a good addition to your arsenal and a punch that is hard to read

    Thinking it's better to throw a chopping overhand off a slip from what your saying. Makes sense as you don't over commit and can at least come back to the body or throw a left hook up stairs. One question but, you ever use a right hook much, been told to avoid them as it leaves too much open?
    Thanks for uploading these, cheers mate

  • @mikeobg
    @mikeobg 11 років тому

    Ok thanks for the pointers. I agree with you on that though, and Kenny emphasizes the importance of foot work. He tells me to watch guys like Willie Pep, Eder Jofre, "Sugar" Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali and "Sugar" Ray Leonard to see what foot work should be like. And yea, I try and have a very high work rate whether I'm outside or inside. I just think I need to polish up on readjusting, and resetting quickly after I block or slip a punch. I still have trouble with that

  • @mikeobg
    @mikeobg 11 років тому

    (i.e., inside fighting, footwork, hand speed, punching power, head movement. defense?) - I'm only 5'5" but I have quick defensive reflexes, I use my feet a lot, and I have a lot of punching power. I'm usually pretty smart about what I do in the ring, but I would just like some pointers. I try and think of what happens if I miss, all the possible counters, and prepare myself two or three steps ahead of it actually happening

  • @mikeobg

    Yea I feel you on that one man. It's a hard road, and even if you've mastered the sweet science, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll make it big. I train with two professionals at the moment; Eleazar "El Pelon" Reitera, and Justin "Jawbreaker" Jones, and both of them still work other jobs to keep their families afloat. but I highly respect you and what you do, and I wish you the absolute best. Quick question though, what do you think it is a shorter fighter would need to work on most?

My trainer is the great Kenny Weldon, and although he has a different philosophy of boxing than most do, I find your videos very help and am trying to incorporate what I can into our style of boxing. More combinations, doubling up punches, being unpredictable and speedy. Much love from Houston, TX. man, God bless you

    i feel like mike tyson with holyfield.when i going for the overhand right my sparring opponents do a little step back and throw their right hand,and they catch me most of the times.i did the variations but i think that is most matter of timming.Or i am to slow or predictable because we practice together long time..
