may be 220 volt service in China.... Thailand and Philippines are 220 V
ik had a new r71a.check the power selection switch on back.120v ,220v..mite have something to do with it.mine cost about $800.00 new in the 1980s.good luck.73s n5mgo.

Nice radio. I always wanted one back in the mid 1980's when they were being sold new. Wish I had got one. Back then every issue of Popular Communications seemed to have an ad for it on the back cover......................One thing worth mentioning about your video though, it's probably not a good idea to show the shipping label with your name and complete address. Could give unsavory burglar-types an idea of what kind of toys might be in your house. Might be a good idea to edit your video and mask or delete that part.

@@okhamradio There is a Chinese app call "闲鱼". Loads of Icom R71Es are on sale. I recently bought one for less than 100 bucks. Almost brand new. But it has only two filters. Reception is far better than my Icom R75.
