Maple Syrup Season | Sugar Shack Measurements

We've had several questions over the years about the measurements of the sugar shack or what we used for various aspects (ex: the sliding door, windows, step down by the stove, etc). Hopefully this video will cover a few of those questions that have come in and give you a little better look at those areas.

For your sliding doors, put the second latch on the inside of the post, make it a cam that hooks into the door and rotates to tighten the door against the post. We used these at a historic sawmill I worked at years ago, they were made from threaded rod, and could be tightened with a nut on the cam, cheap and secure. Beautiful building!

Nice sugar house. Where did you get the black brackets? Are the black brackets in lieu of traditional post and beam joinery?

Thanks for watching! The black brackets were from Menards and they are mostly decorative as there are larger screws under them that function as the main fastener.
