For a long time now, I’ve been pondering the question how much race there is in Cafe Racer. Time to put this to the ultimate test I thought, and so I took my 2017 Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer to France. Motorspeed was having a track day event at the Circuit de Chenevières, I made some minor changes to the bike and off I went. What could possibly go wrong?
Kinda everything, as it turned out. Too slow, too nervous, no ground clearance, one brake disc, bad riding position, strange tank shape, the list goes on… Well, at least it was fun: I met some nice people, enjoyed a few days outside, and even got to see some cool sights in the area. I can truly recommend the track and the organizer as well, and the photographer.
The result of all this? When you take a Scrambler to the track, you probably have the wrong bike. So I sold it. For what? You shall find out soon… - Авто та транспорт
The Ducati 999 comes with its own set of clichés and expectations. But is there any truth to them or do they just disappear into thin air when you look more closely? Let’s find out: ua-cam.com/video/azqCUnUQuEQ/v-deo.html 😊
Great bike. I thought this model comes with Ohlins rear as stock?
Unfortunately not, the components are pretty basic. But it looks ace 👍
What tires have you used for it?
Those were Pirelli Diablo Rosso IIs - the tires I had already used on the road before.
Why not a Sprintfilter sports air filter + StarAce S airbox + Termignoni race exhaust + UpMap mapping? Why do you do it with the other bikes on the track and not with the ducati scrambler? Obviously the performances will be from the road, not from the track.
I thought about modifying it, but then it's hard to say where to stop. Once you work on the engine, you should also work on the brakes. Once you work on the brakes, you should improve the suspension. Once you do that, you need more ground clearance... It would never end until you basically have a new motorcycle.
Ok, but if you go to the track you have to make the modifications for the track, otherwise it's better to try it on the street with the standard equipment like yours 😜
@@dome8016 In that case the changes would have had to be much more profound. The cost would have been like a second bike. That way I would never have done it at all. Taking the bike like this was just a fun little experiment.
