David, sir, i was an illegal once. We never trusted any government thing. We were always afraid of deportation so putting our name on any list was a big no-no. In retrospect, we missed out on a lot of programs that would've been helpful but our paranoia was too great to sign up for them.
Considering that ICE goes through registration lists from various companies/departments, it's a smart move.

I also read that despite republican fearmongering about illegals robbing Americans it's actually the other way around and that makes sense. Illegals usually have more cash on hand since they can't as easily open a bank account and they also can't go to a lawyer as easily. So robbing an illegal migrant rather than a born American get's you more loot for a lower risk.
You were never "illegal", maybe pre- citizen, long term visitor, idk, but remember, u dont have to be smart or gave good character to move up in govt. Or to write and name things. Let me remind you that without a speaker for the House, NO BILLS WHATSOEVER get passed to the Senate. In short, NOTHING GETS DONE. Mike Johnson can be worked with (note that the Ukraine/Israel funding got passed). The prior speakers were under the thrall of the mad MAGA contingent in Congress, and would do NOTHING.

A close friend of mine just said this is a concern of hers at a dinner gathering to me. It is surprising people actually believe this nonsense. Citizens don't even want to vote. Why would anyone risk prison to do this.
I’m Canadian but lived in the USA for about twenty years. My American husband and son voted in USA elections. However, I didn’t want American citizenship and I KNEW that even a legal immigrant such as myself couldn’t vote in USA elections. It’s common knowledge that non-citizens can’t vote in the United States. It’s even illegal for non-citizens to vote in Canadian elections. We have the same problem here, though, with the alt-right and Conservatives screaming that non-citizens are voting here and that the Liberal Party is allowing thousands of refugees in because they will start to outnumber “Canadians”, aka White Christians, and will vote Liberal. I’m a multiple generation White Christian Canadian and all I can do is roll my eyes at the rectal orifices.
One thing I don’t understand though is that Canadians have to have two pieces of acceptable ID in order to vote and it’s my understanding that the UK and most mainland European countries have the same policy. It isn’t a big deal for us and no one gets all warped and twisted and indignant about it.
Sadly, American Republicans go looking for something to get outraged over. It makes them feel justified in their rabid hatred of anything "different".

It's so blatantly obvious none of these people have even met or spoken to an illegal immigrant and allow their fears to feel certain things are happening that have no basis in reality. As someone who has known lots of illegal immigrants throughout my life I can guarantee none of them are even thinking about voting or politics in general. The ones I knew worked most of their day away(14+ hours) and after a long day of work they would come home just like us and have a couple of hours to eat and spend time with their families in their homes then go to sleep and do it all over again. In their free time, just like some of us, they would drink beer listen to music and just relax. Most of them did their best to avoid any kind of crime because their biggest fear was being found out and deported. The vast majority of their disposable income went to their families. They went to work and they went home that was it. There almost 0% chance that they would even be able to vote but if they were there's almost 0% chance they would choose to stand in line around a bunch of people and cast a vote for Joe Biden. Politics is the furthest thing from their mind their sole focus is working and supporting their families that's it.
