Hello from 2023! You run one of the best (or is it the best?) engineering UA-cam channels. Especially, your EE series are a piece of art, can't tell you how useful those are to me! Thank you a lot!
After watching tons of videos and reading lots of mechanical engineering books and especially hvac systems, this was the neatest explanation that I have had during 6 years of experience in the industry.
So very informative. Thank you. 🙏🏽 I’ve been working around these things a couple years now and your videos make sense of it all. Stationary Engineers and Operators!
Great video! How about some maintenance video on for example, how to service a building pressurisation unit and expansion vessels? Or how to clean out a calorifier? Thanks!
thanks for our time. finally, I understand the cooling tower. I did not find any vid that explains the cooling tower like this. thanks again and keep up the great work
Just wanted to appreciate your efforts! your videos really helped me learn about and understand hvac systems thank you so much! (a civil engineer from pakistan)
Yo bro when I mean I’m so grateful to have came across this video. I am in the field as we speak. I feel like a rookie, but this just gives any more knowledge to what I need to know. Thank you if there’s a way I can ever reach out to you please let me know.💪🏿🤙🏿
What is the difference between a fluid cooler and a cooling tower and why would I choose one over the other. I have seen some sites that have both types. Not sure why
Thank you so much! Maybe you could make a discord server for your channel? Would love to join one and discuss your videos with other fans! Keep it up, especially on HVAC topics! Please!
I've seen some of your more current videos, and they are much better than this. You should update this one with some engineering and design calculations as well as the physics behind the actual heat dissipation and water evaporation
Thank you Paul for the great explanation, as always. Can you please make one more video for Closed-circuit cooling towers, and how they're different from open cooling towers?
Hi bro, I was checking your video. I have one doubt about this cooling tower. Does the outdoor cool air touches directly the chiller water which was sprinkled into the film? If so, would that add dust/impurities etc to the chiller water? Thanks
what is the typical temperature range of the condenser water, the return cooler water, the ambient air, and the ambient humidity? can these operate at high ambient temperature and humidity? how much water do they lose to atmosphere?
Where does the water go when it's drained ? Is it reused somewhere or does it just go to the sewer? Also, where does the new, fresh water come from? If the building is connected to the city water supply, is that where the new water comes from? Is that usually connected at the chiller ?
@@EngineeringMindset thank you. I'm taking my RMO exam from FDNY. I'm watching all your videos in order..many people told me these videos helped them a lot to pass the exam
If there is multi cell cooling tower then will there be a separate float valve for each cell or one float valve is enough for multi cell cooling tower?
my building is about 30 yrs old and our bypass is pneumatic but even after watching this i still dont have a full concept of what the need is for the bypass... our pnumatic operations are being slowly phased out and changed to digital but if anybody reading this knows please fill me in
Question that seems very basic here... What is the difference between a cooling tower and a fluid cooler. Working in residential now everyone calls these towers fluid coolers, and that its different than cooling towers in commercial. Any info is appreciated, have not got a complete answer yet.
most have fans on the top but some will use ground mounted fans which sit at the side and blow air inside, these are usually used when the cooling tower would exceed height restrictions for local building regulations so shorter towers are needed
My man is too proud of the model he built. Kept getting distracted by it and wanting to spin it and show it off instead of explaining how it works lol 😂 that’s being said.... it is a very nice model
Hi, if the water supply to the cooling tower (specified on the chiller's schematic) is 2000L/h, does that mean that 2000L of warm water are lost to the environment every hour? Is it worth trying to recover somehow? (asking for an academic group project that aims to recover heat/water from a chiller) Thank you..
Evaporation takes heat away from the water, hence there are drift eliminators that still condense that moisture and cool the water, which is the main purpose

This is one of the most well thought out easy to digest, and incredibly visualized presentations I’ve ever seen. Great work!
I used this video to learn English terminology (of cooling towers); perfect! Thank you!
Drain for draining the system for preventive maintenance, float valve for make up water to maintain water level at the basin to prevent air pocketing.
Best engineering content creator for the new generation of elite engineers

Thank you so much for your sharing! Among all the videos this is the most simple&easiest to understand!
Thanks guys for uploading this video. You guys are better than my instructor.
I’m an apprentice in building maintenance this is sick
There is also water jet oriented towards the thins.
The tower cleans itself.
Thank's for sharing

It goes to the sewer, it comes from the water main. It enters near the pressurisation unit. See our video on chilled water schematics
@@EngineeringMindset thank you. I'm taking my RMO exam from FDNY. I'm watching all your videos in order..many people told me these videos helped them a lot to pass the exam
Good job.
Please kindly write the basic equations used in design the cooling towers. ( simple and practical forms).
thank you so much Paul, very clear

Well explained and very helpful. Thanks.
+François-Philippe Paradis Glad you enjoyed it
Could you please increase the volume.
All your videos are interesting!!!!
Thank You Very much Sir!
Need to do the video over with someone else explaining what's going on,,,videos are always great and helpful,,Paul is just off his game in this video
Absolutely wonderful presentation!
Thank you, Charles. Glad you enjoyed it, plenty more on the way.
If there is multi cell cooling tower then will there be a separate float valve for each cell or one float valve is enough for multi cell cooling tower?
There are many ways to do it, there could be several towers connected together and a pipe running between all to balance the water level too
really great video explaination is awsome keep up great work , and one request make the sound better
Great video as always. Thank you.
Really very helpful video !!
You blitzed this one!! Bravo!
Thank you so much for providing such a useful video.
Great video
Great detail video really helps a lot

Very nice explain thank u
very informative
好喜欢这个视频,图画的很直观。可惜听不太懂,英语太差。XIE XIE .感恩。
thankyou!! the best explaination
can you make a separate video for Air separator in Hvac system
Very well made video
This is channel is simple AWESOME, helped me a lot||||
Thanks again mate.
Thankyou very much paul! You explained everything very clear! I promise to buy you a coffee! Hahahah
What are your observations between open and closed loop cooling towers, as to their cooling efficiencies?
Hey great video!! I had a doubt though how does the drift eliminator exactly help in condensing the warm air being sucked by the fan.
It collides with the surface so the impact and pressure change, the material will be a cooler temperature also.
great information
Thank you for this video ♥️
Very good, thank you.
Thanks a lot, nice and clear explanations. Curious question: what is the software you use to do these wonderful presentations?
Thank you so much for all your videos. Really very well done! Great and easy to follow
awesome video ty
Thank you!
There are also round cooling towers
Is there a fan in the bottom by the base to get the ambien air inside the cooling tower is it just pulled from you top fan
most have fans on the top but some will use ground mounted fans which sit at the side and blow air inside, these are usually used when the cooling tower would exceed height restrictions for local building regulations so shorter towers are needed
Very niece sir 🇮🇳👍
What is the problem if heat rejection smaller than 200kw? but in/out temperatures and water flow rate are the same.
Great video. But I had to up the speed to 1.25 to get through it.
great video! support
Thank you
So this is kind of like a giant swamp cooler except the air that is returned to the room would be dry?
Thank you for your videos :)
How to calculate water loss in cooling tower as a rule of thumb
rough rule of thumb we use- 1% of the flow for every 10degF just for evap
Thank you sir
My man is too proud of the model he built. Kept getting distracted by it and wanting to spin it and show it off instead of explaining how it works lol 😂 that’s being said.... it is a very nice model
Play at 1.5x speed it will save some time. Great video though

Is it worth trying to recover somehow? (asking for an academic group project that aims to recover heat/water from a chiller)

No it will recycle the water, a much smaller amount is lost to evaporation. You can reclaim some heat yes.
what part if any does evaporation play?
why does water evaporate? If the intended purpose for the water is to get colder instead of hotter?
Evaporation takes heat away from the water, hence there are drift eliminators that still condense that moisture and cool the water, which is the main purpose
Super sir
Dédicace a tous les BTS FED qui viennent voir cette vidéo pour faire l'oral d'anglais TECH . Une pensée pour vous :)
PS : moi je l'ai eu ;)
You have some very good vids but you need to speak louder, very hard to hear with my computer volume at 100%
