Hey Craig! These are great lessons, aren't they?? I have a UA-cam channel for beginner pianists, or those trying to learn how to play real songs without needing to read music or know theory. In just a couple of months, I have gained over 400 subscribers! I wondered if you would mind checking it out (click the logo to the left) and comment on a couple of my videos and let me know what you think. I'd really appreciate your help trying to get better! Hope to see you there! (I respond to ALL comments on my channel!) -Ben
Oscar was one of the most talented guys ever. He had perfect pitch and a photographic memory, which certainly helps, but he also had the most incredible swing and blues feel of any jazz pianist. Combine that with his incredible technique, and you have the greatest swing pianist ever lived. About the tutorial. Great job! Tip: I think you get hung up a little bit too much with explaining his blues licks with blues scales. You say he mixes the minor and major blues scale on these two notes, etc.. He simply uses blue notes. Done. Keep swingin', man. You are a great player yourself!
after Years playing Piano as a hobby at intermediate skills, I discovered your channels after many other channels in the french youtube. And Even if I'm struggling at some english words, you are for me the best teacher so far
So I'm a guitar player who plays piano as a secondary instrument. These tutorials are help my perspective as a guitar player. My question is: When can I buy a Johnny CD or Johnny performances on iTunes. Not only is Johnny a great player, he's a great teacher, and his positive attitude in this age of polarization is a welcome relief.
Johnny you are incredible I am a member pwj I'm overwhelmed with the complete prolific training that is provided for all levels and all styles of music
Hey man, Jonny, this good, like the way you break down what Oscar Peterson is doing. I always liked his jazz style. This is helping guys who are just like me, just starting up on jazz piano. After this lockdown I'll consider joining your full course, but this is a good start. Thanks.

Incredible, Jonny. Savored every moment of this Oscar video! Fantastic choice of a song, and excellent breakdown. Looking forward to signing up for your course - tons of lessons in many genres for any/all levels. Thank you so much for this! And would love any other Oscar Peterson videos or lessons you're able to do. Cheers!

That’s hot stuff! A beautiful analysis and breakdown of an inspired Oscar Peterson solo!! Thank you, Jonny! I’ve loved Oscar’s piano playing for the last 50 years and I try to emulate him. This is great! 👍
Hey Jonny! Canada has blessed us with two of the greatest musicians in my memory. Oscar Petersen is a name I grew up with and Glenn Gould is the artist my wife introduced me to. I regard these two as my standards for Jazz and Classical. Why both? Because you have to know the rules in order to break them and the joy is in the ability to play both really well. I'm looking at you now Keith Jarrett. I would like to see more videos on how to play like Art Tatum (who people used to think were two different people playing), Count Basie, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, and Bill Evans. Love your work and willingness to share! Cheers!
Here's to the master ! God bless you, Jonny. OP is certainly doing it. That's great stuff, I will take weeks to digest it. But so what ? Let's enjoy the learning process. Despite some colleagues opinion I've read here, the best tune ever performed by OP is "Tin Tin Deo" (Exclusively for my friends, vol. 1).
There's some very good content here. Note how the right hand keeps switching between single notes and well spaced pairs of notes. This creates the tension and sympathetic vibration (kind of exponential: 1x1=1, but 2x2=4) which are so essential in a robust blues piano performance. Yep, this is the real thing!

Brilliant video as always Jonny. Have you thought about a video showing us classic Hammond-style R&B stuff? Perhaps with some pedals to simulate the sound from a regular keyboard organ sound would be awesome. Anyway cheers again!
Fantastic video Jonny, seeing the interest skyrocket in this video I would have to say you are on to something here with these breakdowns. Please consider doing a breakdown on, Bill Evans, Thelonius Monk and Vince Guaraldi. Cheers!
Monk would be awesome. I might even go out and buy a piano for that. Haven't played for decades but miss it mightily. Never could play jazz but Jonny makes it seem as though regular people could approach it. I actually know better but it's nice to dream.
Wow I literally just typed in "oscar peterson jazz piano lesson" to the search bar and I don't think my timing could have been better 🤙Aloha nui loa from kauai brahddah
ho Johnny I did once seek out this solo for a piano lesson...this is also my fabourite aolo Great to get i t on a silvet pmate like tgis you fulfilled a wish that some one would present it this way! Could you go on with the rest of the solo??? Would be Great!
I have a doubt: Oscar thinks in chord changes on a blues progression? I mean, playing on key of F, when he plays Bb(IV chord) or C (V chord), he plays Bb or C major blues scale or minor blues scale instead C blues scales for all chords?
Lol,don’t know why you people compare everyone to celebrities,I don’t like it,IMO it’s kind of a symptom of idolatry driven culture these days, kind of dumb I think, just my opinion.

For me 140 years
Funny
@@Yodaandhislightsabre il would say "sad " rather than funny 😅🤩😂
jajajaja y eso quien sabe!
Yes. It may take a while...
Wow! that was the best 15 minutes I've spent in quite a while! Love OP
Great breakdown. Starts to demystify the legend for us mortals. Thanks.

Ahh Jonny, you nailed this one. Fell in love with that performance instantly. Feel like a kid in a candy store. Thank You!!
Great sync with the jazz video and teaching at the same time thanks Jonny.
Rhythmic such as bass and drum section is amazing too.
All of your videos offer quality instruction and advice, but for me, this is the best yet. Great transcription of a jazz giant. Thanks so much!
wow Jonny, you left no stone unturned. Really great stuff, thanks

What a great timing, I was just searching for some Peterson's tutorial
this is gold! what about a part two?
Great sync with Oscar Peter's video Jazz groove Sound. Nice Jonny.
A joyful personality with a lot of talent and great insights. Keep sharing the gift of music.

Great video ! Thanks for it !
I learned more in this video than I did in years of piano lessons.
No offence but you had a pretty terrible teacher if that’s true. This video is great but it’s not really a replacement.
Love it! Great lesson on my favourite jazz pianist. Thanks very much for the super analysis Jonny.
Thanks for video!!!
Just terrific, Jonny!
Another great one Jonny, teaching us how the legends do it,pretty amazing stuff, thx so much, greatly appreciated.

Spectacular....study🤠🤠
Grazie..
That was AWESOME 👍🏾💪🏾, where's the whole song?, He's my FAVORITE JAZZ artist, (one of them, lol) but definitely at the TOP of my list

Great tutorial explained really well thank you

Marvellous 👍👏
Great stuff!!
This is simply the best!!!!!! 🥂🌸🎈🌈
Can you please do a piano tutorial for "I got it bad and that ain't good" by Oscar Peterson trio!!!!
Just a small point; sure you know, but C-Jam blues is a Duke Ellington tune.
I can’t believe I’ve only just found this video . I’m a massive Oscar fan
Can you do "Hallelujah Time" that he performed in Jazz 625 for the BBC in 1964? Good luck ;)
Thx
Nice! But what sheet music are you using because there are couple times you are not playing what’s there? Each time what you play sounds good though.
Gorgeous
My 2 favourite jazz pianists Oscar and Jonny
Jonny is outstanding like O.P.
Very helpful video but I can’t seem to play the harmonizing turn at 6:40, it just doesn’t sound right
buena explicación amigo ..
ho Johnny I did once seek out this solo for a piano lesson...this is also my fabourite aolo Great to get i t on a silvet pmate like tgis you fulfilled a wish that some one would present it this way! Could you go on with the rest of the solo??? Would be Great!
Wow Jonny Wow!!!
amazing lesson! thanks!...Is there a Transcription PDF for the Solo you can send us??

Are you going to teach tango ?
If you want to amaze yourself listen Art Tatum. The guy was blind and lot of Peterson work came from Tatum.
That was a great walk though. Thanks!
How many times can you say blues in one video
OSCAR IS GOD! 🎹👊🏾✨ NUFF SAID!! 👑
If i want to play Jazz where exactly should I start?
Listen to a lot of it
OSCAR IS GOD! 🎹👊🏾✨
The bets jonny
the major/minor blues stuff seems so clunky. much more helpful to think of intervals, either augmented, diminished etc
"major blues scale"
I still cannot play like Oscar P ... what did I do wrong?
You forgot the step where you practice for about 50 years
Jazz may be easy, actually?
Plsy like oscar peterson ?...yeah right !!
Welcome back...lesson no.2
Play like Arr tatum
And sings like Pavarotti.
/r/jazzcirclejerk material here
Waaaaaaaw...
Ralph Fiennes giving jazz lessons :)
Lol,don’t know why you people compare everyone to celebrities,I don’t like it,IMO it’s kind of a symptom of idolatry driven culture these days, kind of dumb I think, just my opinion.
If you’re going to teach how to
Play like Oscar, maybe you should first learn to
Play like Oscar, sir
Oscar Peterson: Jerry Lee Lewis in black face.
Beyond Idiotic
No one can play like Oscar Peterson. Video ends.
