In Capoeira we have a few different kicks like straight kicks. We have round kicks. We have a kick which is the Meia-lua de Frente which is a setup kick. Usually it's a kick that travels across in a certain position so you can apply a different kick or a take down. And what I'm going to do now is I'm going to demonstrate how to do a Meia-lua de Frente.
As I said earlier, you always start with a ginga. Pretty much every kick starts from a ginga and goes back to the ginga. So I have Professor (?) and Professor (?) working with me. We're going to get into a ginga position please. Right foot back, always with a good ginga. We're going to ginga a couple of times we're going to ginga um, dois, and três (?). And from there we always step in. Okay with good form. You're going to be kicking with your right leg across and finish back. And you kick and finish back.
Okay and from there we can ginga again. Um, dois, and we stop there. We step in and then we kick. And then from there we finish back. And then we ginga. One, two, (?). So the goal is that when you step in you've got to engage your hips into it. Switch your arms and bring it back. You can also finish (?).
So from there you go kick, finish back, ginga, same thing. You step, you step, kick, finish back and that was the Meia-lua de Frente. And it's always good to maintain a good balance and from there Meia-lua de Frente also can expand into a different kick. You always can have a combination Meia-lua de Frente and some other kick. So you don't have to always bring it back to the ginga.
Now that we have shown to you the Meia-lua de Frente I'm going to have both profesores demonstrating how to use the esquivas with an attack of Meia-lua de Frente. So I'm going to step back. I'm going to have the two of them playing with each other and basically they're going to be free to use all the esquivas and there's going to be an attack with Meia-lua de Frente. So they're going to go um.
As you see they start with the ginga going back and forth looking at each other. And then they can kick whenever. See, there's the Meia-lua de Frente. Back and forth. Um, dois. And back. And they can do one more. See. And go all the way down. And notice as they go down they always look straight at their partners, always maintaining eye contact. It's very important. And that's it. Thank you, you guys.
Yeah. So as you notice here both of them did Meia-lua de Frente using two esquivas and whenever they applied esquiva they always maintained eye contact with their partner and always covered themselves and recovered straight into the ginga.

i want to add something in here.. i am trained in karate, muay thai, aikido, jeet kune do, and a bit of capoeira i learnt from youtube itself.. and i have seen that capoeira has the best stealth mode... no one can tell what kick will come next.... so maybe the power isnt much but you wont be able to see the kick coming to block it.. so i love capoeira...!!!

Look for Capoeira in the UFC tournaments, you'll see it's not all show. It can be used as a real martial art but it takes a whole lot of dedication which a lot of people lack. So if you place all you have in Capoeira you can make it even more effective then Muay Tai or Taekwondo. No Martial Art is superior, all have their pro's and cons.

Is it just me, or is the meia lua de frente the most difficult and awkward beginner's kick? I mean, it feels more unnatural than some of the more advanced kicks...

+xen05z True. It's kinda weird first time you try. Luckily I have been practicing Hapkido before Capoeira so it was actually quite easy to me.

it's uncomfortable but it's easier than Armada for example or Meia lua de Compasso.
For me Queixada is the easiest one and Meia lua de Compasso the most difficult but also the best one.

tae kwon do rarely use their hands which puts them at a major disadvantage, muay thai has little head movement, i've seen a boxer KO a muay thai fighter. Even Joe Rogan recognized that, and he is a tae kwon do fighter himself. capoeira is a great fighting style (not to discredit any other style) and uses many kicks that at many times you won't see coming. Not only that but it was developed by african slaves in brazil disguised as dance because martial arts were illegal

Practicing martial arts was prohibited at the time when capoeira developed, so they had to disguise it to look like dancing. Nowadays it is used for show purposes and the kicks combine with a lot of other moves to make the dance look cool.

actually I do know what I am talking about. I have practiced both martial arts. Capoeira was actually outlawed because of all of the death and violence it caused. And taikwando is very fast and powerful. Don't underestimate it because it is so popular. I suggest you watch the human weapons episode on taikwondo.

This was a great debate! I do respect your ideology on martial arts even though you are incorrect. Keep doing research and practicing martial arts. Lastly watch the thrive movie on youtube.

Not all techniques generate knock out power! Why don't boxers throw out the jab then? Why don't karate-ka throw out the front snap kick then or the back nuckle strike? haha You internet martial artists art funny! However, this kick and catch you right in the jaw and stun you long enough for another more powerful technique! This shit is chess not checkers!

The point of this is to teach the basic moves of capoeira. This dance is self-defence in disguise. Think about the basic dance and self-defence moves, they wouldn't be too complicated at first would they?

i think the kick has no power its better to learn muay thai or taekwondo. but i terms of dancing capoeira is kind of good.
