Hi, Denise! I don't know if you thought of this, but what's exciting about the art crayons is they also work with oil and cold wax! Unlike oil pastels, you can use them at any stage of the painting since they dry. 😍
I had another play with both of the sticks.. and I think I like the king art ones better than the other ones. Slightly more creamy, and seem a bit better with coverage. I love that the samples I did dried completely! 🤗

I've had those Marabu crayons for awhile. I LOVE how you used them thru the stencil with the brush !!!! I'm actually purging my huge craft room after 25 yrs. but am tempted with the Sketch Box subscription. I did get the Christmas box and will be playing with that today. You always inspire us.

1st vid of the new year, hot coffee, throwing the puppy her chew toy w/one hand & arting with the other til she poops out as the canny nanny for a week... Way to go! Ty.
I add the kings art to a cutting board plastic and then use the blender to grab it off of the cutting board and apply to my surface which also includes stencils.

Those blending brushes saved my stencil work, much better for me than sponges. Yay! Thought I had all the art supplies I need until I saw those Kingart Gel Crayons. I was using pastels on top of stencils and it worked fine, but those crayons work much better and aren't going to fly away and smear. So, will order the crayons! Ha, ha! So fun to hear your excitement at opening art supply packages, as always! Thanks, Denise!
The Kingart Gel Crayons are fun - they make me want to get out my stencils too! I played with them again today on another project and noticed the pink I picked was a bit transparent… not exactly what I expected. The tempura paint ones are definitely more solid. Was just an interesting observation. I love the blending brushes too!! 🤗🤗🤗
Dube stencil is a Carolyn Dube. Wonderful stencils and great tip using the blending brush. I may see if I still have my gelatos. They were my very first introduction to mixed media 13 years ago. Thanks Denise, I hope your new year is full of joy!
Denise, the little scrap piece you made was a perfect blended work of art! I had my January Sketchbox open on my desk while I watched your video and I immediately started playing with making marks with the ArtGraf. Instead of digging out one of my Catalyst wedges I can just use the art supply itself! Happiest of New Year's to you!
This sketchbox was one of my favorites. And it's funny, I have had these crayons and love them too. I find Gelatos are more dryer in texture. But 2 magical pieces. Happy New Year DL. Wishing you all the best in 2025. ❤

I just have the basic box but was very excited to get the blue Art Graf Tailor’s Chalk, especially after watching you use them recently. I also got: Holbein Artist Gouche (Iron Oxide Red), a Royal Majestic shader brush, Derwent tinted charcoal pencils (Sunshine Pink & Slate) and 10 sheets of Magnani printmaking and drawing cotton paper. I’m very pleased and will be trying them out today. HAPPY NEW YEAR, Denise. A big ol’ hug to you!
I loved your art haul. I had tried pastels in a summer art class a long time ago and didn't enjoy them. The Kingart and Maribou look like winners. It was great to see the blender brushes again. I haven't gotten one yet. I also enjoyed the new stencil technique. Happy New Art Year Denise!

Boro is an ancient way to repair fabric and clothes using a Sashiko style of stitching. I think those patterns are different Sashiko stitches. (P.s. I kinda liked the close up while you were creating!)
I have all the brands of gel sticks you have, including the tempera sticks. And I love Gelatos, and think they're a better quality than all the others, even Marabu. Although I just got a 48 set of King Art and they're very nice! But that's just my opinion and I think it's a preference thing. I guess you know that the tempera sticks dry almost immediately once they hit the paper? They don't budge...even with a solvent. They're creamy dreamy , but once they hit the paper, that's it. So you can layer them for different color effects, but no blending. Lightfastness: I do a lot of watercolor, and in the watercolor world, there's always talk about which colors/brands are "lightfast" and which are not. The answer is in the pigments used in each color. In artist grades of watercolor, you must be able to see the pigments used in that particular color and then the brand will rate it how lightfast that pigment or pigments are by their rating system. Unfortunately, a brand cannot just SAY their product is lightfast. They may be somewhat "fade resistant" but "lightfast" is a rated thing and is determined by the pigments used and those pigment codes should be disclosed by the product makers on the product wrapping or housing.

Scrolling around on Amazon I saw some Crayola Pearlescent Cream Sticks that looked kind of cool. There are only 10 in a package and the package says "Oil Pastel Alternative". I might have to try those.
Were you referring to Gelatos as the ones you didn’t like? They usually have to be applied to a coated surface..like a gessoed surface or some marker papers. They don’t perform well on naked paper. Hope this helps.❤
I love them too... but I hate to think that they will fade even in my closed book that gets little exposure to light. They are the perfect creaminess and I like that they are matte.

It took quite a while to get my oceans paper sets... but the lady I saw using them a while back said it took her a while to get hers - so I just didn't worry about it. It eventually shipped. I guess they are on island time there. 🤗🤗🤗
Denise, it looked like maybe the Maribu pastels dissolved better when wetted than the Kings Art. Is that what you found? Were you able to smudge either, and did they both dry with no residue like the tempera? And, was there a sheen or matte like tempera?
I just had another play with these. They both seemed to dissolve about the same. I didn’t care for that - so I probably won’t do that with these. They did not smudge the next day - completely dry. They are more of a satin finish when dry.
Are the Mirabou watercolor crayons permanent and water resistant once they dry like the tempera sticks? I would love to find a way to use those to do narrower mark making.
They are watercolor crayons - and they say not water resistant, so I don’t think so. I think it is a good choice for a higher quality stick, but I do like how the tempera sticks dry fast and the colors. I just don’t like that they won’t last.
Yes!! Hemlock!! That is the one I was trying to think of! It is probably the queen annes lace though. I just used that stencil in a layout I filmed that is coming up and I loved it!

I love the King Art gel sticks! They are creamier than Gelatos, activate with water way better than Tempora paint sticks, and the colors are lovely.

Are those crayons similar to neocolors?
I’d definitely use them in the same way as the neo color 2. They are more creamy kinda like a lip stick rather than a harder wax like the neo colors.

I still love the tempera sticks because they dry quickly and don’t move with water. They are not water soluble, so I can add layers on top.

Are the Mirabou watercolor crayons permanent and water resistant once they dry like the tempera sticks? I would love to find a way to use those to do narrower mark making.
They are watercolor crayons - and they say not water resistant, so I don’t think so. I think it is a good choice for a higher quality stick, but I do like how the tempera sticks dry fast and the colors. I just don’t like that they won’t last.
I have the mirabou and once they are on the paper and dry they do not reactivate

No. They do a variety of supplies. You can see past boxes on their site, or check my art hauls, I’ve unboxed it each month ☺️

Boro is a Japanese Way of stitching small pieces of fabric together, very beautiful. Think the marks on the stencil is too image stitched.

Yes!! Hemlock!! That is the one I was trying to think of! It is probably the queen annes lace though. I just used that stencil in a layout I filmed that is coming up and I loved it!
