I use tiled textures (using Krita's wraparound mode to quickly make then seamless with the least effort) like concrete and brick to dramatically speed up doing concept art pieces. Do the same with grass, foliage clumps and clouds. I basically turn mundane studies of that stuff into reusable assets I can use later.

I tested it in Krita and managed to get similar results.
My very unprofessional guide that may be helpful for you anyway:
    1) Getting a stamp that looks like a chain link
    - draw a link like in this video
    - isolate the layer with it (right click on the layer > isolate)
    - use the rectangular selection tool to select the link
    - select one of the default stamp brushes (they're a good base) and open the brush editor (icon with a wave and three dots and lines on the top bar)
    - General > Brush tip -> predefined. Click on the "+ Stamp" button, then save
    2) Making the brush work
    - choose the stamp you added
    - change the spacing so it looks right (make sure "auto" next to it not selected)
    - General > rotation. Mark it (click on the square next to it in the list on the left side).
    - mark "enable pen Settings"
    - mark "drawing angle". You may need to unmark whatever else was selected instead of it
    - do whatever fine-tuning is necessary (sorry, I know it's not very specific)
    - click the "save new brush preset" on the top right corner and save it.
DON'T click "overwrite brush preset" instead or you'll lose the stamp that was used as a base.

    Awesome tip/tutorial Trent, thank you!
I notice that quite a few times when showing the different brushes you've made, your first chain links twist and rotate in random directions...
I assume it is because no specific directional movement has been defined yet?
Is there a setting you would suggest adjusting that would eliminate that initial random link?

I remember back when i found atutorial on this brush I was ecstatic because I used to draw a lot of chains :))))). I think you can go even further than this tho', you can fully shade and highlight the chain and turn it into a mixer brush, didn't try it, but I remember I made a mixer brush for pipes which was pretty neat.

It's always so fun to get just ONE extra tool in the tool kit and suddenly get to run around playing with how it interacts with any other tools you've already got.
