@@Hannah-hq9xs I'll take a joke when it's in good faith, but this reeks of the same vibe I get from those videos where some neckbeard walks up to his piano and makes fun of hip hop as a genre by playing a "cover" of one repeating note. Different styles, and different artists within any style, are going to make pieces that speak in different ways; measuring them all against an arbitrary standard from one particular style is just dishonest.

Becuase the video was actually making a point by Kent Monkman’s comments about the male gaze and how romanticism paintings were depicting first nations peoples as savages. The relationship he had with the character wasn’t all about the negatives of other art it was actually a complicated history of art and first nations. Indigenous peoples were depicted in older paintings as a dying race and vanishing, that's also why he makes a point to saying art is dead.
