- This is my winning submission to the 2013 EF Tours Global Citizen Scholarship. It explores the effects of urban sprawl around the globe through imagery of Toronto, Ontario, and provides suggestions to curb sprawl.
All videos and images that are not sourced were shot on either the Canon T3i with the 50mm f/1.8 lens, or the iPhone 4.
I really like what you're doing with the place
Good job!
Thanks for this important and effective message! As a landscape architect in Oslo, Norway, Im witnessing the same trend. I find it interesting that in spine of so many wanting to move downtown in our cities, still the politicians are not allowing high rise development. I think the problem of the silent majority could play a major role here. The complaints from the neighbours of a proposed high rise, are many and are being heard. The thousands that could benefit from such projects are not involved and easily forgotten.
I recommend that Ms. Miao contact Frank DeJong in Toronto, a leading member of the Green Party in Ontario. Frank has analyzed the problems associated with sprawl and points to the one real solution: changing the way government raises its revenue away from property improvements and to the annual potential rental value of land. This measure along will end land speculation and lead to land being brought to its highest, best use: high density but well-designed urban development.
Great video! I am going to share it with my Grade 4 class tomorrow.
I see why you won!!! That was awesome!!!
When my geography teacher tells us to watch this video for homework. Unlike many of the students in my class, I actually obey the teacher and literally come to watch the video while they all take it as 'No homework tonight'.
Good job!
Loovvve it, Shirley :)
