Specimen Tope from the shore on Mackerel

- PB alert. This is the video of my 45lb Tope from the shore. I caught it while fishing for Stingrays in Tralee Bay, County Kerry, Ireland.
It was my first tope from the shore so I was in completely new territory and unprepared. At 156cm long it is an Irish Specimen fish and I will hopefully be able to claim it as such. I missed the first 5 mins of the battle as the fish ripped the line off the reel and the rod off the stand I couldn't go back to grab the Gopro.
Heart thumping I made the decision to sprint for the camera and pray the fish stayed on the line. Luckily it did.
Although that one wasn't weighed I can estimate the weight based on a 150cm fish that was weighed 😉 Subscribe and hit the bell to see that video in the coming weeks.
I do apologise for the bad language in the video I endeavour to avoid it in all my videos and did my best to bleep it out with my limited editing skills. Please don't hold it against me I was filled to the brim with adrenaline. Specimen Tope from the shore on mackerel. - Спорт
- Fantastic effort lad. True Belter of a fish. Your heart must have been absolutely pounding!!! You did a brilliant job of the video as well. Top angling mate. 👍🏻🎣🦈
I was just so happy I made the decision to run back for the camera and that nothing went wrong. All the stars lined up for sure
A great fish and an epic battle well filmed. You captured the excitement of that first beach Tope. I hope the reel survived the dunking. Well done🎉
Lol it did but the reel was old at the time and suffered some gear damage but still works for regular sized fish 🤣
Lovely fish Chris.... brilliant video also.... I applaud your composure man. Phil Aud thought you well.
Well done Chris you did well on your own buddy . A fish of a lifetime from the shore at Derry all the best from Philip ord😅😊😊😊😊
Hiya Phil mate nothing beats the evening on your warrior with you and Dave hope your keeping well
Wow, great video Chris 👊💪
Just WOW Chris - what a fantastic fish! What a great video too - probably your best! No need to apologise for the language - we could all see how excited you were, and these things happen! My language just watching it was similar! More of these please, and stay safe, stay well.
Ha agreed I was swearing too !
top fishing mate, cracking fish
Yep, big fish normally surprise us and then all hell breaks loose ; great capture and so nice to see your excitement and trembling hands - real fishing is all about this 👍
LOVED that Chris :) Thats the job, im looking forward to it

Learning experience these in prior preparation
One fish from the shore is worth 10 from a boat...
Good fish...
Great Fish Chris, loved the video
Buzzing for you pal,had my first tope yesterday, only 12lb but my new obsession, good on ya
Did ya that's savage congrats 👏 hopefully the first of many for you now. No luck for me on them yet this year but I'm hoping to get a go at a few in the next couple of weeks
Awesome Mate
I feel mega
Designed that rod ,Century BB many moons ago and seeing live, a fish of a lifetime getting caught on it
My hands are buzzing as well
Big Danny
Thanks Danny you did good in the designing they will have to get you back to design more fishing rods and less casting ones lol
Yea ! So good there was something about that moody sky and conditions too that said good fish. Really got a sense of what that meant to you and enjoyed your narration throughout too. Top work I didn’t really think of tope running that shallow and must of been amazing being up to your waist too . Always feels much more involving being in the surf. Top work buddy.
Thanks mate i thought it was a big stinger at first and even when it kept deep in close I still had stinger in my head then I saw the shadow and the tail. The heart definitely skipped a beat lol
Absolutely stunning tope Chris 👍💯
Thanks 👍 can't wait to get back off
Fantastic! Well done Chris and congrats on your pb.

Well done Sir, a fish of a life from the shore. Good on you, could be the start to great summer. Looked like Derrymore.
Definitely up there with the monster stinger I had a few years ago but I'd say top of the list.

Great stuff Chris, well deserved mate 😁🎣
Thanks Sam great excitement
What a fish!, well done Chris, you don’t have to catch Tope like that every week though, we’ll still tune in to see you catch the flatties and the weavers 😉😁
That comment has made my day
What a fish mate, great work, like Christmas for anglers the reaction, shared and liked , keep them coming
Thanks for that paddy I hope to have some more really good ones in the next few weeks too
I hope to get some myself, hunting Ray and smoothie the last 2 weeks , a couple of small pubs, but nothing but dogs slamming the baits, missed a good fish last week, almighty bang and run then snap from 50 pound trace, at the connection to shock lead, disappointed to say the least, new gear same as I always have when hunting Ray and smooth hound 😂,
Now that's what you call a fish well done chum. That will take some beating that. Definitely worth the wait for that post.
Man I was sitting on it all week trying to play it cool
Nice one well done on a cracking fish Chris
Thanks Phil
Awesome stuff Chris - well played, mate!
Thanks Simon lots of luck involved I think too
@@Inshore_Angler Luck in the hooking maybe, but you still needed to play and land the fish 👍
Well done
Great video lol, I love the panic of it all. Great catch
You have no idea I was trying to keep calm and about 20 other things. It was a massive buzz to get the first one.

Thanks Tim my heart almost stopped when I saw the tail outside
Outstanding mate!

Class Chris
Well done Chris, great excitement between trying to land the fish and getting rid of the weed at the same time. Spielberg has only the second best shark movie out here after this😃
Ha his bank balance remains pretty impressive in comparison 😂
Chris O'Sullivan, The Inshore Angler baby steps
@@colinosullivan2828 that's true too
Mate, that was epic well done what a fish !!
Thanks Kevin
Well done Chris ! Takes some doing to land one on your own .
A lot of luck too lol I'm bringing back up next time 😂
Super fish. Never caught any type of shark, this looked class. Really didnt think ud get them from the shore. Alot of anglers envious of u today. Fair play
They tend to come in to a few areas around the coast but it takes a lot of failed ventures before getting lucky like I did
Amazing fishing fair play
Cheers kieron
Absolutely super fish Chris well done.Real heart in the mouth stuff when they give you the eye and you realise no wire to the hook.Imagine if you had a second run, then you would have been really out of breath.Delighted for you,no going back on rays after that.
After 3 huge runs I thought it was the 100lb stinger I know is there. Another sprint might of killed me 😂 whatever about the rays I can't see me digging maddies any time soon
Fantastic fish well done!
Totally amazing well done fella. A fish dreams are made of. Great beach too and you get to drive your car down there
Thanks John yes I've made the walk of death a few times and never again. Even if I was guaranteed big fish every time I just couldn't face it 😂
Morning fella. Found some of your videos from start lock down this year. The one where you under rat threat. Just wanted to know if your thinking about doing anymore live broadcasts. I'm old to get into fishing again. Had 30 year gap. Life does that to you at times work families etc. But I'm still shielding and fishing great to get out and see the world still turning. Your kennel baiting video you did great learning and I've caught fish copying your demo. Stay safe happy and well. I look forward to finding more Gems on UA-cam.
Congratulations on a wonderful catch lad 👏 👏 👏
I'm trying for a Tope off the North coast this July!
Oh nice one man i heard of a few off Benone and some real big hounds too
@Inshore_Angler yeah Benone is my spot 👍... I've a few good Bass this year and surprisingly I got a 4lb Cod in the beginning of November! Plenty of small hounds being caught and I've heard of a few double figure hounds being caught too!
A mate of mine caught a 38lb tope about 2km down the beach past the military firing range in the summer!
Tight lines dude!
Wow fair play man!
Definitely a special days fishing
Cracking shore caught Tope, well done that man.
I lost a good Tope from the same mark last year.....and it still haunts me now.
Keep up the great work, really enjoying your videos.
Ah no really man what happened? I lost a big brute of a stinger there one day when my line just broke randomly about 20m out still don't know what caused it
I hooked into the Tope just before we were about to pack up after catching my first quad on the Rays from the same venue.....Stinger, Undulate, Small eyed and finally Thornback, I got snagged up on the bloody metal structure you used as a temporary rod rest at the start of your video!....... like your lost Stinger, I was within touching distance, and very excitable.
Mustn't grumble as they say, gotta be happy with the quad, but that Tope really would have been the icing on the proverbial cake.
Oh man it sounds like one of them amazing days that that venue can produce. Congratulations on your grand slam of rays its not too many guys get it in the one day. That cage is definitely a hindrance I've been tempted to drag it out but could be just unearthing more.
Like a rocket in shallow water, top angling!
I was actually down to the knot on the reel running towards the water.
Awesome, well done
Cheers man
was a great area between derrymore and carrigaharua at one time,a mate of mine used to get some monsterous female tope at one spot and a lot of males at another later in the year, good to see there are a few still around and they havn`t gone the way of the monkfish
That sounds class it's hard to find a reliable spot out of the chronic weed.
@@Inshore_Angler t ry ardmore point on the shannon, float fish a small mackeral on the last part of the rising tide, legend has it some big tope still run up there in the early summer
That's a monster mate well in
Thanks man it was unreal
Well done Chris been trying for over twenty years for one of them from the beach never had one great to see you did Cong rat's Mick Morgan
Thanks mick it was great to finally get one
Unreal fair play
Incredible fish Chris! No need to apologise for the bad language, I think I’d have been swearing a lot more than that!!
I know trust me I really was behaving
Biggest rope I seen from shore was a 48lb off rathmullen pier. Good ray spot too
Class that's a big old girl. I wouldn't mind having a few weeks to explore around donegal
Chris O'Sullivan, The Inshore Angler is recommend the spot, loads of thornbacks and mackerel for fresh bait.
"Ohhhhh it's a f**kin big tope" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ha ha and that was the professionalism out the window
Superb fishing. Both you and your kit held up well. Century Carbon Metal Rod? I also thought you handled the fish well considering the circumstances.
Ya it's a century Blackbird or bb. I have a few of them and they are very very dependable once you get used to the length. Like every thing I would try handle it a bit better if I was able to time travel but at least I know what to do the next time
Oooh target achieved.
Jaysus Chris, what a fish. My heart was in my mouth the whole time, what bait did he take?
Would you believe it was a small mackerel bait about 4 inch X 1 inch I had a flapper on the other Rod but it passed it by
some one caught a 85pound in girvan harbour south west scotland 9/8/20 was a belter
Beautiful angling Chris. What did you get him on...
A section of mackerel fillet did the damage
Chris where would u recommend putting lobster pots in fenit
Lovely tope bud well done. Think I know the spot you are at in the video. Long trek out there if you dont have a 4x4 is it not?
I think horrific trek is more accurate
@@Inshore_Angler yeah bud always looked a bit far for me to be bring the rest of my family as I am usually with them when down that way. Next time I am down there I will give it a pop though. Have you had many Stingers or even a Monk from that spot?
