This poem by Donne is very interesting and reminds me of a delightful short story by Harlan Ellison titled: "Repent Harlequin!" said the Tick Tock Man. The idea of forces of nature or man made constraints interfering with human desire is relatable by many. The Sun Rising suggest the sun is conscious and thus accountable for any impact on the speakers love life. On the surface a silly assertion, but absolutely effective in conveying the annoyance (perhaps arrogance) of a disturbed lover.
Thank you so much for your recommendation, I'll be sure to check out the short story! And you're so right in saying that the sun is conscious here and thus held accountable, absolutely a living being, more like a friend than some unreachable entity.
so underrated, tysm this really helped
"Saucy pedantic wretch" solid burn on the sun by Donne 😅
