My all time favorite player. I had a Sports Illustrated poster of him wearing the double knit pullover uniform. Hall of Fame 2009.
My favorite player as well.
He hit a lot of line drives off the green monster in his career that ended up being singles that would have been home runs in any other Park he was robbed at least 100 home runs by the green monster so many dents he put in the wall so strong Jim 💪 was awesome
You hit the nail on the head Sean. So true! Jim had ridiculous strength and a level swing compared to most homerun hitters. He hit the ball harder than anyone in his day, but he hit line drives. Downside, he got robbed of a ton of homeruns at Fenway and grounded into a lot of doubleplays, but he made contact more than most longball hitters of his day. This is why he consistently batted over .300
Jim Rice had superman 🦸♀️ homeruns power
Yes! Had seats along the left field line in a game. We could hear a ball he hit hissing as it went by us - then put a big dent in the monster for a single.
Great package. Rice hit a home run over the flagpole in center field in 1975. I wish video existed of that one.
That homer came off KC's Steve Busby. Unfortunately, those were the days when teams didn't have huge TV contracts. Not all games were televised, including this one. Local TV stations would send a cameraman to the game to shoot(on film) highlights for the evening news, and then the film was discarded.
@@swami1 You can hear the radio call from Jim Woods (it’s epic) on the Super Sox 75 LP. It’s on UA-cam, 13:40 is the time stamp.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 I know. I bought the album later that year.
I loved watching him hit when he had those really powerful years in his prime.
Jim Rice own the green monster
He was so dangerous, strong as a ox! Amazing short stroke/swing
Loved the late 70's Red Sox, total power team. Rice, Lynn, Yaz, Fisk, Dewey, Boomer, what a lineup! And the red caps were AWESOME!
Hobson
@buckstraw925 Of course. Pretty sure he was the first guy ever to hit 30 home runs hitting 9th in the lineup. Maybe the only guy to do it, but I'm not sure about that.
@@richardsiciliano7117 Killer lineup with the two guys at the top good at getting on base and base running and then seven guys with huge monster bats. I used to tune in on my little AM radio all the way from outside Philly to listen. I could just barely get the Sox station from Hartford.
@buckstraw925 Those were great days. For years, I always wished that the late 70's lineup was mixed with the late 80's starting pitching. THAT team could have won a title. Oh well, we got there eventually, buddy.
@@richardsiciliano7117 Well, they nearly did in 75 and against a great great team. I was glad to see them finally win but by that time my childhood love of the Red Sox had long ended when I got a bit older and I stuck with just the Phillies, my home town team.
Jim Ed was the first Red Sox player I was a fan of, thanks to having a glove with his name on it. Also remember watching Sox games with my dad and always cheering for him to hit a home run, which he did quite often. It's a shame that injuries limited his total numbers in the latter half of his career, when he was completely healthy he was the most dangerous hitter in MLB.
DARN IT !! Jim Rice was a monster ! 💥💥💥 ⚾
I wish MLB Vault still posted full games
So much power from such an easy looking swing. He was a beast!
Imagine the exit velocity of some of riced shots .man is he strong and quick .
Rice was so naturally strong
One of my favorite players from back in the 1970s
One of my 5 top players of the redsox in the 70s i have his jersey. What raw power should be in the hall of fame fact!
He was never my favorite Sox player, but i definitely appreciated his bat in the lineup. Sox had some great teams in the mid to late 70s.
Did anybodys ball get over the wall faster the RICES back in his prime, they were just smoked on a rope, but I remember towards the early to mid 80's tho,his stance changed slightly and his homers started becoming moonshots more often, but man my fav player as a young kid!!
"You can only say good things about rice." No truer words have ever been said
1978 Jim Rice was unpitchable? could only 🚶♀️ walk Jim rice 6:31 6:31
Thanks for the older highlights
Tremendous power 😊
Rice in his prime had incredible power. Strong as a ox
🦸♀️ superman homerun power; Jim Rice
2:35 that was George Scott
LOL, I knew that was not Rice.
He's wearing number 15.
Boomer wore 5 not 15
@@Anotherinthefire That was George Scott 100%
@@Anotherinthefire He wore # 15 also.Go look it up
El deporte más hermoso de las galaxias, pese le a quien le pese...
The only game I ever saw at Fenway was in 1975, a night game against KC. Rice hit this mammoth line drive that disappeared into the night near the flagpole. I thought it had to be one of the longest ever hit there, but I can't find any mention of it. Does anybody out there remember it?
that home run was against Steve Busby - there's actually an article on the internet about it. Jim Rice did state that it was his longest home run. Tom Yawkey also said it was the longest he'd ever seen at Fenway.
@@mikegulliver4885 Thanks. It's almost weird to describe a mammoth home run that you didn't really see a lot of, it just was this line drive that went into the darkness. I wish it would've been a day game.
At 2:33 it's not Jim Rice...that's George Scott.
I'm a Yankee fan and I hated Jim Rice. He was ALWAYS UP. It seemed like he came to bat nine times a game. In retrospect, it was because he scared you so much, you were always thinking about where he was in the batting order. If he was due up in the ninth inning, you were thinking about him in the eighth.
He could flat out hit. I believe his eyesight started failing him late in his career. He was robbed of a few more great years, but he was very memorable.
Not only his eyesight, but knee and elbow injuries.
He owned and then lost The Minute Rice Industry in 2004.
Jim Ed......................
What Documentary is this?
It's just a series of random clips. Mostly from the old show "This Week in Baseball" with some ESPN and Red Sox broadcasts at the end 1987-89. Also a couple of 1978 clips, maybe from an old HBO show hosted by Len Berman called."Race for the Pennant."
Alot of Mel Allen. Probably TWIB This Week in Baseball
Pitchers pay the price when they face Jim Rice
I love how people say shit without knowing the facts.George Scott wore # 15 in the 77,78,79 seasons with Sox. Quick who wore # 5 in 1977:for Red Sox ? Denny Doyle. Before you spout off look at your facts.
2:34: That's George Scott. Fun to watch, but not Rice.
Dave Parker still not in …,
HOF is a joke …
