    For pipe paper, do a search for the color you want, such as "black marble with yellow veins", click "images", find one you like, save image, print to printer.

      Yes that is one alternative, I also lay the pipe directly on my scanner when I need to repair a portion or to create a full page of paper by splicing sections of the scan together. The Black marble w/ yellow I have seen for sale at Timesavers... $6 + shipping for a single 5.75" x 13" piece.

    Thank you for leaving the cat in the video. It's nice to know I am not the only one that has to deal with an overly zealous helper constantly demanding to be the center of attention. :)

      @@TheBlackForestClockShop James, thanks again for this video! Finally had a blow out on a PHS cuckoo quail and needed to re-leather the bellows. Was invaluable in knowing which thickness leather to purchase from Columbia Organ Works. The CPL Thin worked great, and the water mist trick worked wonders in setting memory on the creases. Thanks again for your extremely clear and helpful videos.

    Great job. I posted this in both of my groups on Face Book also mentioning the wooden plate movement that you repaired and it is easier to find that if they subscribe to your channel.

    thanks for the informative video! What are your thoughts on leather vs. tyvek or some other material?

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  Рік тому +1

      Hi Jon, Tyvek works great and will last a lifetime or three, I use leather primarily for antique cuckoos which benefit from originality however the cost is greater as you know. Thanks for bringing up the question, perhaps I should have mentioned Tyvek in my video as an alternate material.

    • @jon_byler
      @jon_byler Рік тому +1

      I have not messed around with tyvek much, but I wonder if it conforms and takes a fold as easily as leather does? I've got a bunch of cuckoo clock bellows to repair, so I guess I'll find out!

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  Рік тому

      @@jon_byler Yes if you have the proper Tyvek it will crease fine. I have used Tyvek from disposable coveralls and it was way too soft and didn't crease well. I order smaller quantities from eBay and it's work just fine.

    Is the marbled paper strictly for aesthetic purposes, or does it also seal the pipe somehow too?

    Do you have a video that shows what to do if the weight is pulled all the way up on the left but it won't tick tock or stay running? I noticed on my cuckoo clock.the left weight is pulled completely up to the hole in the bottom of the wood and it does not seem to move down at all. It was like that when I received the clock.

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  Рік тому

      So there could be several issues and I'd be guessing at what's wrong. Could be dirty in need of cleaning and oiling or have something else going on. The left side is the time side, if the weight isn't sufficient it could mean the clock needs bushing work or it's not the original weight for the clock. Typically these need at least 2 to 2.5 lbs. weights.

      @@TheBlackForestClockShop the weights sat 1500 et. The seller didn't know if it was 1 day or 8 day cuckoo clock. I'm new at cuckoo clocks I don't know how a person could tell if it is 1 day or 8 day.

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  Рік тому

      @@bluebonnetjasmine969 So a weight driven wood plate is a 30 hr or one day clock. It must be spring driven to be 50 hr and fusee to be 8 day. You can send pics to my email jim.clockrepair@gmail.com for I.D.

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  Рік тому

      @@northover5023 Yes this crushed stone was commonly used through much of the 19th century even a bit after the turn of the century, I have forgotten the name of the actual stone, i'll look back and try to find it, a powdery mess it can be though. Some collectors like to keep it for originality but once loose I just replace the weight by using small pieces of lead.

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop

      Try going on the website for Columbia Organ Leathers the prices are listed there. About $14 + tax & shipping for a 6" x 12" piece, which will do approx. 3 sets of bellows.
