The level of detail including object physics in this show are top notch for a show which is literally a fever dream. No other cartoon show pushes high detail reflections, shadows and logical physics like books being knocked over from the shelves being bumped.

I don't think you understand the definition of "deadbeat." Based on Darwin's entrance with the Hat and the Brief-Case, he just got home from work; meaning he's the _breadwinner_ for the family. A _Deadbeat_ is someone who takes off and never comes back; he tells you he's going out to pick up some milk, or to the corner to buy cigarettes, and then completely disappears.
If this were an American cartoon, I'd be asking how sad it is. This, however, is a British/continental European cartoon and, well, sometimes they do kids TV better than America does. Not as much as Canada or Japan, but close.
