    Not a figure skater, but artistic roller skater here :)) Your content (whether here or on tiktok) has always made me so happy because it really resonates as someone who started late! I can tell how hard you're working and it's the same work and drive that's gotten me to where I'm practising (and semi-landing) my axel now. You got this, and I'm cheering for you!!

    Hi, I'm considering starting figure skating myself at 14 years old! You definitely are my inspo to start cause I've been holding it off since I'm older than most. I have one question though before I start, was wondering if I should get some good skates before my first lesson or if I should start w/ just rentals and eventually get better ones?

    • @sofiafigureskates
      @sofiafigureskates  Рік тому +36

      hey!! it’s definitely up to you when you want to buy skates! for me personally, i bought my own skates after my first 2 lessons just to make sure I was going to commit to the sport. the sooner you can get your own skates the better, as long as you know it’s something you 100% want to do! 💗

      it's better to buy your own skates rather than rentel ones cuz rentals never get sharpened.

      I would recommend getting used profesional skates (maybe edea) they really help you move to jumps as soon as possible and make sure you are comfortable while skating. You can get good used edea chorus or edea overture with the blade for about 50-100$

    hi! i’m not sure if you’ll see this, but i am also a figure skater and i also teach lessons!! i was just watching your vlog and thought that i could try to give you a tip that really helped me when i couldn’t hold a spin either. but when you spin, open your arms out shoulder height and pull in from there. if your arms are more towards the ground, it’ll pull your balance in front of you. you’re doing great and i love watching your videos!! hope this helps :) 4:30

I know how important it is as well as on ice training. If so, do you have any routine or warm up exercises you could post. The tutorials are great and your process is too. 😊

    As a figure skater who started skating 4 years ago, I say this to try and help you not criticize you.
    Your technique is raw I understand, but you are 17 and instead of just learning the element, once you know how to master the technical side of it, try and
    make your skating look a bit more beautiful and artistic, since right now it looks like you are a small child skating. Aswell as this, i think if you want to achieve more in figure skating, you need to understand that this is a sport that you need to put as much effort in as possible and it doesnt seem that way, for example i was able to do this 5 months after i started figure skating. So please do not get upset and say that i am rude, because i am not. I am being honest and if the truth is too much for you, you need to toughen up because if you were skating elsewhere like Russia, you wouldnt last a day here. Best wishes.

      why judge another skater’s progress? every skater progresses at a different pace. not everyone has access to train every single day. I skate for fun, not to be the best.

    • @Jade.051
      @Jade.051 6 місяців тому +1

      That was so rude I really can’t, so fake too😂, you are not saying that to “help” her, you’re not giving any specific tips, your whole comment can be summarized in “skate better, I could do that in the first months, oh and don’t be a crybaby, I’m just trying to help”, so much fake sympathy it’s actually surprising you even thought this was a good comment to post
