Saw them a few years ago in Edinburgh. Arrived with no expectations, but left having seen a great live band who were absolute pros.

I saw them in 2009 supporting Motorhead at the Cliffs Pavillion in Southend. Those two bands had a long association and they went well together. Very memorable evening.

Fantastic! There’s always a slight moment of panic when you review one of my favourite bands.. just in case, but I totally agree. It’s absolutely thrilling to see this line up live again and they may not be as chaotic as in their early years but they still deliver a solid exciting “hits” packed show.
Rat Scabies and Paul Gray are the best punk rhythm section ever. 😃
Looking forward to the new album which is bound to be coming together soon.. 🤞

I love the Damned. They have never got the credit they deserve, much better than the Clash in my opinion. Have seen them over 20 times, always entertaining. Vanian is a wonderful singer. Nice guys too, always have time for the fans. Glad you got see them, wonderful band

Nice to see a bit of punk featured on your channel, Baz. The Damned do indeed continue to impress, and not go through the motions like many bands their vintage. Great to see Rat Scabies back in the fold - a drummer who’s impressed many over the years, not least a certain Mr John Bonham.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuch a great band say them on this tour and sounded as great as ever, I'm never sure they get true recognition of what amazing diverse back catalogue they have!!!!

Agree - underrated - but shouldn’t be - seen em live twice now, wish I’d got into them much earlier, although ironically I did without knowing it, as I was a big fan of an lp by a band called Naz Nomad & The Nightmares (Give daddy the knife Cindy) which I bought in 1985 & still have it. Years later I discovered it was The Damned as a spoof 60s garage band!

The Damned was the 1st gig I ever went to at the Hammersmith Palais back in 1982 (I was 13)... needless to say I was very impressed! Then they went on to do Phatasmagoria (dross), and I haven't seen them since.
Dr & the Medics were great live back in the day (before they became a one-hit-wonder with Spirit in the Sky, and what happened then?) - they had a great bass player Richard Searle, who went on to form the frequently fabulous Corduroy.

I have loved the Damned since they burst out in 1977. Always loved their sense of humor and don’t a shit attitude. Living in Virginia, I never got to see them live but between playing them ( and the Stranglers) constantly, I drove my friends insane.

I had tickets for Bristol, but couldn't make it last minute. Gutted is an understatement as I really wanted to see what are my favourite Damned line up. Good to hear that it was heavy on the Black Album and Strawberries. Two of my favourite Damned albums if I'm honest. Great that Rat was back behind the drums and I've always loved Paul Gray's sound on that Rickenbacker.

I remember seeing The Damned at the last night of The Powerhaus in Angel Islington in January 1995. For the encore, they played Help and all the band members changed instruments!

I was at the same gig. Your comments about The Fleshtones were spot on. I've seen The Damned on many occasions but I really think they nailed it on Monday night.

    • @KenLieck
      @KenLieck 23 дні тому +1

Well if it was only the Fleshtones who sounded like soup I guess it probably was their own sound man that was the problem, but I remember one time when I went to interview Dave Vanian after a Damned show, and about half of the "interview" consisted of himself and the band's sound man arguing over which was the most appropriately painful way to end the life of the club's sound man for producing what they thought was a hell of a mess during their show that night. Iirc, the gig's sound had been fairly clear and balanced, but my ears were clogged and ringing afterwards, which is definitely not a sign of professionally mixed live audio!

Saw them in the eighties on a Tube recording at the itv studio in Newcastle along with Hanoi Rocks and it was great to see them in their prime... they did a few songs (I think only 'Smash It Up' was shown on tv, but it was great fun as a teenager...)... we went over the road later to a little pub and it was empty apart from the band members and Hanoi Rocks at a separate table.
Got my 'Strawberries ' album signed by them and we had a chat then left... they just wanted to have a pint and toss beer mats at Mike Monroe to piss him off. Great times.
Good to hear they can still do their stuff.. will check out the tour.

(...I went on a "date" with a young lady in 1980, and she wanted to go to a Chemist shop ('drug store') in Campden Town, which I thought was odd...but it turned out that (somehow) she knew that Michael Munroe was coming in there to pick up a prescription that evening... :( )

I saw them at The Roundhouse last Thursday, I was also due to go on Friday but Captain fell victim to the dreaded tour lurgy so the gig was cancelled at the 11th hour.
I’ve seen The Damned probably 60 or so times over the years in various guises (my band Spizzenergi even got to support them a couple of times in 2022) and they never fail to impress. Special mention must go to Dr and the Medics who are back on top form after a few years in the wilderness falling back on cover versions.
All in all a top night out and when they are touring the UK again I heartily recommend you go and see them next time they do UK gigs.

Been seeing The DamneD live since 91 and id say still top of their game-and who can say that after 48 years
My 1st musical love is the WHO- seen them since 89 and there have been epic performances- but you'll never get away from thefact that nothing and no one will ever match the early 70s performances- you just have to accept that what you see now is the best you have available from them-but with the DamneD its still the original energy and artistry- DV is one of the greatest frontmen ever- Captain is a superlative guitar player- Pauls bass is monstrous- Rats drumming some of the most exciting on the planet- and never forget Monty
In parallel with the WHO (at thier peak) a band where every member is as good as you can get! 🦇🖤🦇

One of my dream gigs would be to see The Damned live around 1979 during the Machine Gun Etiquette album days. For my money there’s an argument that Machine Gun Etiquette could be the best album a punk band ever put their name to - it’s a punky/proggy/psychy/sci-fi/gothic masterpiece. Of course the album contains Love Song and Smash It Up (including the gorgeous, wistful, melancholy intro to Smash It Up) but also Plan 9 Channel 7 and I Just Can't Be Happy Today which are, in my mind, perhaps the Damned's finest moments

On another subject, I just watched your The Trolls video from around 8 months ago. I have to say something about many of the comments people made about you. I resemble those remarks. Now I feel like I’m in good company. 😉

The Damned , it seems, is one of those bands that are better live than on record.
Bands like Iron maiden, Metallica, AC/DC, Queen, Depeche Mode and even Blondie.
That said, I always preferred the Rolling Stones studio recordings to their concerts.

Saw The Damned twice at Middlesborough Rock Garden 1977 and 79. The 79 gig was more memorable than the 77 one, only for the fact that Captain Sensible came out for the encore totally naked😂. Still, a very good band to see live back then and very loud. Lost interest when they got all gothy.

I've seen The Damned live twice, once back around '81 and once about ten years ago. Terrible both times and, for me at least, they became a poor attempt at a heavy metal band after their early punk rock days. I wouldn't waste my time and money going to see them again. Possibly didn't help that the first time I saw them they brought The Ruts on to support doing their first gig back after Malcolm Owen's death - The Damned were blown right off stage by The Ruts that night and had no chance of being well received.
