    The flame from the lighter should be steady or you have turbulent air flow which is not what we require. The flow of air should barely be felt.

    Awesome! Quick question: i found a 1500CFM and 1000CFM fan like you have. I will buy a 47.5'' X 23.5'' HEPA filter 99.99%. Will the 1000CFM be strong enough, will the 1500CFM be too strong, and will I maybe need to create a cone setup to produce an efficient vortex or will it work just fine like your setup (on top)?
    Quick optional setup: build a room, can be cheaply made with plastic rolls, to have an enclosed room where the flow hood will purify your air overtime. Giving you even less chance for contamination. Wear paint suit and gas mask.

    Thanks for the explanation! Really nicely made. Just a question. There are computer fan with more than 300 m3/h. Do you think I can use those if I couple 6 of them for a 30x 60 cm2 box? I’m consider these fans as they have a smaller footprint and are also less noisy.

    • @HappyMushrooms
      @HappyMushrooms  2 роки тому +2

      Hey, that will not work, as your fan need a lot of pressure to pull air through the filter. As the filter width is at least 7 cm its like blowing air trough a pillow. The only option here is to use a radial fan

    Thanks for the explanation, I would like to get the filter with the following specs.
    HEPA Filter/ Schwebstofffilter - Güteklasse H14 - 610 x 610 x 78mm - MDF Rahmen
    Nenngröße: 610 x 610 x 78 mm
    Filterklasse: H14 HEPA Filter nach EN 1822

    Nennvolumenstrom: 700 m³/h
    Anfangs-Druckdifferenz: 150 Pa
    Empf. End-Druckdifferenz: 600 Pa
    Rahmenart: MDF Rahmen
    Dichtung: Optional wählbar
    In your calculation/example you used 250 PA, can I use 150PA with this filter as stated above or do I have to use the 250PA here too?

    Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, aber ich glaube bei Minute 4:40 in der zweiten Rechnung hast du dich vertan. Da hast du die benötigte m3/s durch die Fläche des Filters geteilt. Dabei würde allerdings herauskommen, dass je größer der Filter ist, die Menge an Luft die zu pumpen ist geringer sein müsste. Ich glaube, dass man dort statt zu teilen man multiplizieren muss. Dann würde man nicht auf 2500 m3/s kommen sondern auf ca. 1350 m3/s kommen. Vielleicht liege ich ja auch falsch.

    Hey Jens! Thanks a lot for the video! - i was initialy planing on using the same filter, however i could not figure out how to calculate the reynolds number, to figure out if the thickness of the filter is sufficient or if i should take the 150 mm version. Have you calculated the reynolds number for your flow hood?

    • @HappyMushrooms
      @HappyMushrooms  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Carlos,
      Do you want to calculate if the flow is laminar or turbulent? I have never thought about that (just calculated the setup to achieve proper air flow speed) ;) With the known pressure drop value of the filter and the flow rate information of the fan you can calculate the resulting flow speed which should be around 0,4-0,7m/s.

    • @CarlosGarcia-hf3ld
      @CarlosGarcia-hf3ld 2 роки тому +1

      @@HappyMushrooms yes, as explained in this video by "oneEarth Mushrooms" ua-cam.com/video/4TVvStn096s/v-deo.html .
      I calculated, for the 57cm x 57 cm filter (150 pa - 7 cm) i would need at least 603 m3/h to achieve laminar flow - however this does not take into consideration the reynolds number and the thickness of the filter.

    • @CarlosGarcia-hf3ld
      @CarlosGarcia-hf3ld 2 роки тому +1

      @@HappyMushrooms as i have understood, flow speed does not make the flow laminar. It could be also a steady flow (like from the water tab) of filtered air moving with 0,4-0,7 m/s. Thats why it would be interesting to try to figure out the needed filtersize according to the reynolds number.

    • @HappyMushrooms
      @HappyMushrooms  2 роки тому +1

      Hey, I got your point. As prof. HEPA fitler with a depth are designed for this kind of application, I would suggest to use one with a thickness of at least 8 cm (Pressure drop 150 Pa // Thickness:29cm = 380Pa). If fan is able to still deliver around 0,5m/s the setup should be fine. The danger of 100% turbulent outcome only appears with thinner HEPA Filter or extreme air flow speeds (in my understanding). But you are right... a computable Re would be a save addition before buying the needed gear. But it seems as if the needed parameters are not accessible from fan/filters`?

    • @CarlosGarcia-hf3ld
      @CarlosGarcia-hf3ld 2 роки тому +1

      @@HappyMushrooms yes - its actually quite tricky to calculate it .. in the end, as i went for a pobra 180-70 fan, with 1950 h3 h, i got the 61x61cm -> 150 mm filter with 250 pa. Hopefully its not too loud, when not used at fullpower.
      What do you think is the minimum depth / "tiefe" of the box, do you think 40 cm is enough for a 15 cm filter?
      Thanks for all the Help and the nice videos, by the way!

      900 m³/h looks good as only about 300 m3/h is requires for H14 60cm x 30cm. BUT, they curve is missing so there is no information about pressure drop:/ I am a littel concerned as my fan does 850m3/h but got 680W (the fan you linked just runs with 155W and "shall" deliver 900m3/h)

The radial fans should be the better option here (or a tube fan which shows the diagram to get sure that it got enough pressure). The fan you linked shows 350Pa which a pressure drop of about 230-270Pa there wont be anough pressure to blow air trough the filter

    If you want to build one for even less money, see my vid "Build Your Own Laminar Flow Hood for less than $100 (really WORKS!)". Hundreds of people have built these already and I've received nothing but positive feedback, not a single complaint. I show in the vid laser particle counts, flame test, how to tune and use, how to adjust the flow, do a 5 minutes empty plate test, and a complete spores to harvest grow to demonstrate that it works.

I've built it and it's amazing the difference in contaminants rates even compared to using a SAB. It was soo easy and affordable. You then explained everything in detail. Even what Laminar Flow really means and how to make it, test it, and even backed it all up with crazy testing results on agar. You already know all this. LOL. I like your content and I wanted to offer some constructive feedback and also provide engagement to benefit your video for the algorithm as I think it's a decent video. I found this a little hard to follow, I think freshcap does it better, (but more american orientated) and it's still not perfect but at least he sticks to a single filter and a single fan for explaining how it works. Just stick to a single example throughout and then maybe do some examples at the end, instead of having a physical example and then using different fans and filter values for your explanation throughout the video as it's easier for watcher to reference what you're talking about, walk through it themselves to see if they get the same conclusions as in the video so they know if they get it or just think they get it. 2:27 is what I'm referring to, you talk about a filter with initial resistance of 220, then talk about a random fan different to the fan you have which you clearly showed the specs for but not for this new example fan, and then you talk about a filter with initial resistance of 250, and this all occurs within 16seconds. I liked the presentation otherwise and that fan has a nice aesthetic to it. [Boomer Shroomer's video on this is also great]
