he'll be _eligible_ for parole, doesn't mean he'll actually be out. Parole board decides that. Parole board looks at how someone behaves during their time in prison, the crime they had committed that got them into prison, how severe it was, mental illness, how much time they served, and then calculate the risk of whether they'll re-offend or not. Basically, the chances of him getting parole is if he wakes up from his stupid behavior and becomes a responsible, mature person. Whether that'll happen or not we'll see.

But in clear cut cases like this, any plea deal is a disrespect for the victim by the judge and DA. Then again, what do they care. It is not their loved one that was killed.

That's great that you're doing that. The only thing that I will add, is it's better to keep that sentiment away from your children. Otherwise, they might view that as "parent blaming kid for not doing what they as a parent want, because if not for the parent, they would have nothing." It can create resentment.
I'm sure you don't do that. I'm just adding that there for any readers that stumble on your comment. It's like batman. Do things for the good of it, not for the recognition. That way of thinking is selfless and earns a lot of trust from those around you. That earned trust will make your life better in the long run.
