Has anyone ever self-taught themselves ballet? I'm slowly losing hope, but I reeeaally want to develop some sort of dance skills in this form, it's so beautiful.
Why are you losing hope? Even if no one has ever done it before, you can be the first. Furthermore, you're not teaching yourself. You have a teacher. She's right there and there are hundreds more out there. Of course you can develop these skills.
I’m self teaching myself! I’m 18 and I just found that ballet is one of my happy...mmm... treasures! Believe me if you really love it, you can do it! Is all about determination and being constant! But I’m honest, the downsides are small...there will always be that tiny insecure-self that will make you doubt, I always wonder if I’m actually doing the right movements, if my position is alright... and you will have to deal with that uncertainty... and you won’t be able to become a “professional ballerina”... but you can become a beautiful swan (: other than that you just keep on! Push yourself, but listen to your body, because it is wise, you don’t want to injure yourself... Don’t give up just yet! >:)
@@user-yc6ny6kh3c Hey, i want to start self taught ballet. But i'm still confuse because they say you can't learn Pointé by yourself. And Pointé is one of the most important things on ballet. What did you do to develop it?
Nadia Fahira oh yes the Pointé should be, at least in my opinion, on of the last thing to learn, once you have strong legs and strong feet, you should start... Baby steps, it’s better to be safe than sorry, you don’t want to twist your ankle or injure yourself, try walking on the first. They will feel uncomfortable, but you kind of grow used to it... Go slow (: Do some basic moves with them (Plié and relevé), use the barre (or your chair jej) as your help... And I think is always better to ask for professional help... send an email to a ballet academy asking for help, the worst thing that could happen is an empty inbox or a “we can’t help you” reply (:

I'm 21 and just now embarking on my ballet journey. I appreciate you posting this video.
I'm 35--- it's never too late! 😊
Me too! How’s it working out for you? (I’m low key thinking 21 is too old :( )
Guadalupe TB How’s it going so far? I’m 35 too and thought about doing ballet lessons.
I‘ve started my ballet “journey” last year right before I turned 21. It’s the fifth month of training once a week classical ballet and once a week floor barre (exercises for your whole body in addition to dancing ballet). It’s so fun! And I get better every week. It’s amazing seeing the progress. I can almost do splits for the first time in my life and my whole posture bettered enormously.
I was very afraid and kept saying that I wanted to start for years but never did. We are a very mixed group of people. The youngest is 13 but there’s a 56 year old woman as well. And guess what: she can do splits!
It’s never ever to late starting ballet for fun and yourself. Just try it out. Good luck everybody 💁🏼♀️
I’m 17 and been told that it’s “too late” to be a ballerina so you guys are really inspiring!
I randomly found one of your videos and now I’m at the point of considering trying ballet. The videos I’ve seen so far are very interesting and I like your pace. It makes me the opposite of stressed. You must be a great teacher.

I'm 15 and I've always wanted to learn ballet, it's always fascinated me, I've wanted to try out things like piano, violin and karate but my parents are really strict and never let me do things like this, they just want me to study and never ask me what I actually like or dislike.... just because I get perfect grades does not mean I like to study, I've tried to talk to them about this they're always like "I'm working so hard for you, so you better concentrate on your studies and don't get funny ideas" I'm just doing this to make them happy but what about my own happiness....
try having a calm conversation with them about it, and say you'll still study as hard as I usually do, you'd just like to do an extra circular ☺️
I understand you.. That's my current life.. I'm 16 but I've learnt to suppress what I like so I can make them happy. I wanted to learn to dance when I was very young but my father said something about not enough recognition so now I'm stuck in a private school studying law with no passion for anything 🙂🙂 I do try to be understanding but sometime I think about how I hate my life. I can't do anything. Apart from baking. I was allowed to bake because I can earn money from it.. Lol. When I think of rebelling, I remember how happy they are when I do what they want, especially when I do it well. Sigh.
@@estherbajulaiye6848 please don't suppress yourself ...I can kind of relate with you ...I am 15 and I have suppressed myself because of my parents for many years but now I have to decided to speak myself because I know when I will be old I will be the one regretting and crying for not standing up for myself ...I request you to start speaking for yourself ...you have a whole life in front of you
you really describe me..
@@estherbajulaiye6848 Girls - from someone who is now twice your age and used to feel the same way at 15/16 years: DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELVES TO BE SUPPRESSED, also not if the suppressors are the people that love you the most and that you love. You may not understand this yet, but often adults (and parents) project their own fears on to their own children. If you do not follow your dreams, if you do not allow your souls and spirits to unfold so that you can grow into the women you were meant to be... you will have regrets and you will spend precious years of your adulthood fixing your past, or resenting your parents, or yourself, or, or. Luckily, I was rebellious and did what I wanted to do regardless, but it was not easy and I wish I had had an older sister/friend/mentor who would have reassured me of my beliefs. Hence my quick comment now which hopefully will reach one of you. GET OUT THERE AND DO WHAT YOU LOVE! NOW. (as long as this does not cause harm to you or anyone). You will develop a joy, an aura, an energy that will leave your parents speechless, and inspire others. Maybe they had similar dreams in their childhood but had too many fears and believed that this is what the world is like. This is also your chance to "teach" your parents... Follow your passions, show responsibility towards your own actions, and do not worry - there are so many good people out there who will have your back when things get hard... It will be a journey with ups and downs... but what you will experience is simply the experience of becoming an adult. Success is not defined by how much money you make, or how happy your parents are, but by you creating your own life and living your own truth. That is the ingredient to a happy life. Enjoy the ride - and never, ever do anything that does not feel right to you in order to please someone else. It's a recipe for disaster and can lead to harm in worst case as it may teach you not to listen to your own boundaries or desires. My generation and yours has a lot of unlearning and undoing to do of the things that went wrong in the past, so have faith in yourselves. Remember a few centuries ago people were burnt for dancing or appearing to be witches, or wise people like Socrates that we now look up to were forced to drink poison, so we have already come a long way and undid some wrongs in society, however there is still much more to do, so please make sure you follow your heart, your own truth... I promise you will find support on the way and you will grow so much by taking risks and following your passions. Your soul will thank you. That's how amazing artists etc are born, and we already have much more freedom and opportunities than a few centuries (decades actually) ago, so make sure you take advantage of that. All the best :)
I am a ballet dancer and it’s good to look back at the basics, I am hopefully going to join elite in 1 or 2 years time and you make me feel so inspired to follow my dreams! I love u so much Auti!!!

I am new to MS and I wanted to learn ballet to help my balance and be more in control of my body. I have never done any form of dance and I figured ballet would allow me focus on my balance. It’s hard work. It’s no joke. Ur attitude and explanations are great. I love that you are dorky, in a good way. It’s funny and you make light of situations that can be stressful. You are just having fun. So graceful! I’m klutzy so I feel this would help me very much. You are a great instructor!!!!
You are an amazing TEACHER and I would love to come to your ballet school
I’m 18 never danced a day in my life but wanted to do ballet when I was little but was never able too. I came across this video today and decided to try to follow along. I may never be a great dancer or anywhere near as flexible but it doesn’t hurt to try to do what little I can. Thank you for making this video! I found it very easy to comprehend so I was able to pick up on these skills. Thank you!
This is really throwing me for a loop, because now I'm remembering our entire warm-up routine when I'd been in ballet which I stopped doing at 10 and I'm now 21.
Thank you for guiding me through ballet! I was trained from ages 3-18 then stopped, now ten years later and I feel like I’m back at my academy! What a fresh feeling thank you Auti!!!
This is really helpful during coronavirus time, we can’t go to ballet class anymore. You review what I would do in ballet class, thanks!
A good way to saving money
The way you teach is revelatory. It is crystal clear. After going through a long 'chaines' of teachers, you broke - my - chain! Especially the counts (8,4,2,1) because it was never explained in class or other videos. I feel more confident and ready for the next class. Thank you so much.
You’re such a great teacher! I am around your age and an aerialist attempting to incorporate ballet and lyrical elements to my routines. You’re fantastic.

Im still a teenager and want to pursue being an actress in musicals, it's been my dream since I realized musicals were a thing. There's auditions for a musical coming up in a few months and I want to practice and become a good singer, dancer, and actor for it. The musical includes basic ballet moves and others, and I think this video and many more will help. Thanks for being able to share your talent to help others :))
We're exactly the same! I'm strong in the acting and singing department, but I've never actually DANCED. I'm hoping to learn the basics of ballet that I can use in other categories (like using terminology and technique) so I can have some dancing background before serious auditions start. I'm only an 8th grader, so there aren't dance callbacks at our school. never too early to prep! hahaha
Ballet Is my biggest dream, I have never danced ballet before but it seems so beautiful, and I just feel like It’s too late for me to start, since I’m already 13
You’re 13 and too old? I am nearly 44 and started learning Indian classical dance since 2 years now. I am in diploma year 2 now, completed my 1 year foundation and diploma year 1 course. I do 4 hours classes in my dance school and take private lessons every other week. It’s one of the best things happened to me. You’re very young, if you have a passion, fitness and drive for it, please go for it!

I started dancing when I was seven years old. My first teacher was amazing, but a year later I moved and I came to a new class with an elderly teacher. She was a little bit frustrated because of some pain problems, but nice and I stayed with her for about six years. At the start it was amazing, just the right way of teaching for little girls, but the teaching didn't change as we got older. We didn't do much technical exercises or stretching, our choreographies weren't challenging and we spent a lot more time on playing games than actually dancing. I afterwards realized that the only reason I stayed was because I loved moving to the music so much that I didn't care much about my progress. When she retired I got a new teacher. In our first lesson she asked how long we've been dancing and was shocked about our answers (everyone had danced for at least five years). She said she didn't want to hurt us but we didn't look like we'd put that much time into training. At first I was really upset but after the first lesson I could tell the difference. I learned an incredible amount of things in two years with her, I focused on ballet and contemporary steps and got some good results. Also I got better with stretching and ability which was amazing because I hurt my knee when I was only nine and never went to therapy with it. After two years with the new teacher, the school was closed because there were less enough students. I didn't dance for about half a year, frustrated and upset about the incredible waste of six years. I got back into dancing after that break, and I'm getting myself ready for joining a more professional dance school. I'm far away from a split and there's too little strength in my feet to do a pirouette, but everything else is going good I suppose. I just want to get some skills before I start a new class because I don't want to start with the basics again. I'm already seventeen and I don't want to waste any more time so I hope I will get good with some of this videos :)
I am a self taught dancer in every style except acrobatic and I decided to learn ballet as one of my self taught styles. I think I found the videos to teach me!

You are great at teaching ballet! 🏅🎖🤸🏾♂️
I just found your channel and I’m so glad I did! I gave up on ballet at 13 due to some real early-teen insecurities (tight clothes in a room full of mirrors can be scary when your body’s changing suddenly) but during my time working from home without anything else going on, I decided I’d see if there was any way to start from home. I thought starting again as an adult would be more difficult and embarrassing, but your channel is really encouraging!
I haven’t done ballet in about 8-10 years and I’m so happy I can revisit these skills to keep me stretching in lockdown
Wow, I haven’t thought about these exercises in years! Watching your channel makes me wish I would have stuck with ballet. Love that you are doing this series.
I've always wanted to learn ballet!! But there are no ballet classes near my house I really really appreciate this
If you're really considering learning I would look into YouDance! It's an online dance school that teaches all styles and levels! I've been with them for a couple months and have learned so much :) Haha sounds like you love to dance as much as me :) check out the link youdance.com/3

Hi Auti! Thank you so much for this gem of a video! It is so helpful for a newbie like me starting out with ballet :) I love your charismatic teaching it makes learning ballet language and movement that much more fun! I can only get to one to two classes a week so it is nice that I can watch your channel for more practice. I will definitely continue to follow along with your videos as I progress in this new hobby of mine. Cheers! :)
I love her personality
this is the first time I have watched your channel. I am 49! growing up I was not graceful or patient enough to do ballet, nor did I have the lovely lean shape you do. I went into jazz/modern dance for many years, and really loved it. Now with COVD19, I have been trying all sorts of things to shake up my regular workouts at home, from latin dance, to HITT and now I have found your beginner classes which are great. I love your goofiness, and your light approach to a form of dance that for me has traditionally been intimidating by the teachers. Please know how much you are supporting us through your basic steps, light-hearted spirit, and understanding you have "mature" followers too! Love from Western Canada
Wow! You are a great teacher! When you explain you make it sound so easy. You show the steps very well! I've always loved ballet. I have never went to one of the classes because my mom wouldn't let me. She was a ballet dancer and she damaged her feet. I am a little sad that I will never be able to dance this well, but with you as a teacher, I may start to develop a little talent! Keep on what you are doing! Greetings from sweden!
I love your videos!!! You are sooo sweet and your videos are so helpful, and easy to do at home😊❤️

So excited for this series! My little one is in ballet, so I can’t wait to start this for myself. 😊
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for putting up this video! I didn't really discover my love to dance until I was in my senior year of high school because I was too shy as a kid and insecure of my skills at the time that I figured "I'm just not meant to dance". But I was SO wrong. I started ballroom classes right after I graduated from high school and was amazed at how naturally it came to me. Now I'm 26 and really wanna learn ballet(at least the basics) and I did an extensive search and there are NO adult classes anywhere in my state! At least I have your videos God bless and thank you for allowing me to continue to do what I've come to love so much.

The way it makes me feel..is truly amazing ..i never got the chance to dance when i was younger because of finances..in 2020..my mom told me we could afford it, i was so happy. This is great. After feeling sluggish and slovenly in these self-isolation times, this has helped me feel active-- even a little graceful!
I find it hard to have my heels “kissing” and opposite sides because I’m a completely new person to ballet and it’s hard for me.
Did you find a solution? I can't keep my balance up, i wonder if you already have to be flexible and have skinny legs to do it
The Leafeon I’m not sure and no I didn’t find a solution I guess I just gotta practice mroe
They don’t have to be completely opposite and straight it’s more like your toes are both pointed out diagonally even though it doesn’t look that way. Only Prima (professional) ballerinas do first position with straight feet

I like how simple this video is and how you are taking it slow. I went to a ballet class for a couple of months, but my teacher was teaching way too fast and trying to do too much in one lesson. It was quite hard for me to keep up, because everyone else has been there for a while and I and my friend were new. But I enjoyed it, and now I'm thinking about following your video and trying again at my house. I just have to find something to use as a barre.
