Really! I appreciate these people making these videos helping others out! What we don't need is a bunch of 12 & 13 yr olds or older people acting that age on here,! How I wish they couldn't get their hands on technology and irritate the rest of the world bc they think they're being cute or something, go get some coloring books, that's more your speed !
@@BasementBogey look at his channel, judging by your interpretation of lousiness, you can draw better than this persons creations, go check his channel, he's one of the best artists. If you can draw better show me but don't be an idiot
Value is one of the seven elements of art. It is the darkness or lightness of a color. Value is the correct terminology. Shade refers to darker values. So using "shading" is also acceptable.
I like how it seems like he isn't even shading anything, he just moves his pencil and boom.... it's there. Lol, but for those of you who don't like his vid umm... there are hundreds of other youtube vids on drawing noses, kindly leave this vid and check something else. It's not as if he keeps to date with this vid, it was made in 2010, you're entitled to your opinion yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to voice it. I think he's instruct just fine so if you don't just go.
I followed along exactly and got a similar result! Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have struggled with noses for as long as I've been drawing and this makes it plain.
Was never able to draw a nose, nor did I ever had the resources of finding an instructor... Thank you for posting this, how could I have possibly forgotten that UA-cam is a great form of resource nowadays!
Yes, this was made a long time ago, but to the best of knowledge, noses haven't changed much. With the singular exception of plastic surgery, of course.
you still have to make some part of it lighter in order to make it "pop". unless the drawing doesnt have the nose in any light at all, but then you wouldnt see much of a nose at all.
@powerupist Value is the artist's way of saying darker vs. lighter hue or shading. In lay man's term, the stronger the value, the darker the drawing of that area. Hence, when he says in the creases you make more value, he's saying make it darker than the rest of the picture or surrounding area. Did that make sense?
@khunnieluvify you can use whatever you like when you draw...just depends on your style. I'm in college right now, and we are required to have/use HB/2B/6B pencils, but I usually sketch in mechanical pencil. And .5 mechanical pencils are actually ideal for feathers (realistic ones anyway). It's really your preference but yes, you can.
At least! Somebody who teaches and doesn't just draw. Very good job! I drew a nose and a mouth too with different technique though. I like yours very much! I've uploaded my video for my little students. So I used my goat and donkey in my video too.
I have a question for anyone who knows about value. How do you get that sort of shade where you don't see all the graininess from the pencil where it looks really smooth. I can do it like his fine but I always wanted that smooth look
I tried drawing it but i'm having a hard time keeping up with all the values, is there a specific pencil i need to be using, or any other tips for people just starting out in drawing?
I used to draw pictureswhenever i fancy for fun going back to more than 2 decades yet i was not trained and always found drawing nose,mouth,eyes need special skills which need proper training.Now i can see, and why do you use the word value ? What is the meaning of it in this context of art work? Are you using HB pencil or need special pencils?
Wow, thanks 🙏. You're such an incredible artist and instructor. I can't have enough of watching and listening to your tutorials. Thanks for your brilliance and sharing 💕
OMGGGG YOU DONT KNOW WHAT A LIFE SAVER YOU ARE. my drawing has gone from 60 % realism to literally like 85%. im editing this picture i drew when i was 13 and after seeing this 11 year old artist on youtube who is really amazing i feel like i need to get my game on. i when from having an L nose with two little lines to an actual nose with a mustache holder. is it okay if i send you before and after pics of my drawing? it doesnt matter ill send it anyways lol. btw im 14 now so thankyou thankyouuu!
What do you guys expect? It's just a simple tutorial, and I find it helpful to those beginners. If you can't draw a perfect nose you wanted and is still complaining about the video, just admit that you can't actually draw a damn nose.
Hey I wonder could someone help, is he using a charcoal pencil or a standard pencil and if so what grade of pencil? I'm using 4H for darker outlines and 2B for shading. It's OK but could be better. Would appreciate any advice.
Thank you for the tutorial but i still wondering how to draw a perfect size for face because mine seems weird...the size seemed not match at all....the nose,eyes,mouth ....
This helped me so much! Thank you, before this I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, but now I have a sense of what I'm doing this is great😊😊👌👌
Hello. I just posted a review of this pencil. It's called a General's Layout Pencil. You can find out more about it by checking my channel and searching for "general's pencil"
Thanks this was very good. I tried this with both a soft (6B) and charcoal. It may be my paper but I had a harder time with the charcoal though in the end it gave a nicer result. I found I had to rub the charcoal with my finger to get an even tone.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm bad about how to shade, but you give some good information on how to do it. The space under the nose (what you called the "mustache holder") is called the philtrum or the infranasal depression. :)
This is a really good tutorial :-), but how to draw really small noses? I have a drawing I'm working on but I can't get the nose to look as it should, it looks very flat. The size of the nose on the drawing is around 1cm in length.
guys stop criticizing a good artist who is spending his time helping us

Helping in what? Being a lousy artist?

@D00dleBug03 I am using a General's Layout Pencil. It's the same as a 4B
@potatoehead553 It's all about practice. That's it. You can do it if you practice.
It depends on the style of the illustration. The three first noses may suit that style. They're not "wrong"
@Miedema04 I'm using a 4b pencil

Blessing Oluwole I would but this is the art video our teacher assigned us 😕

You're right GlazedMonkeyKiller, everyone does have their own style. This tutorial is for realistic noses.
Your teaching is great! The nose makes so much more sense to this new at art person.
Thank you. Biggest improvement I have seen in my noses in years.

This was the best "nose" tutorial I have seen to date. Wow and thank you!
I have seen many tutorial...actually everybody showing of more rather than just teaching...I love the way teach
I'm only at minute 1:45 and my nose drawing already looks better that any other I have ever drawn! Thank you!
That you for learning me! SUCH A GREAT HELP! My art exam's went up, just for doing the nose so correctly!
@AJstarbuddies Thanks
@KevinVang1000 it is 3D adding tone and shade is what makes it look like there is another dimension, making it a more realistic drawing.

This is a very good tutorial. Thank you so much - I have never been able to draw a somewhat realistic nose before!
@skybirds09 Thanks
This was a great video on drawing noses. I love your explanation as you are drawing out the nose. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! You did a great job! This is first time I've ever drawn a nose this well! Thank you!
@powerupist becuz value means shading on the 10 point scale....from light to dark....basically different tones....
Awesome!! That looks so real!
At least! Somebody who teaches and doesn't just draw. Very good job! I drew a nose and a mouth too with different technique though. I like yours very much! I've uploaded my video for my little students. So I used my goat and donkey in my video too.
Amazing video. What kind of pencil are you using?
I can tell that you was born to be an artist! =P
I have a question for anyone who knows about value. How do you get that sort of shade where you don't see all the graininess from the pencil where it looks really smooth. I can do it like his fine but I always wanted that smooth look
my god i can't believe how much you helped me with my art homework
I tried drawing it but i'm having a hard time keeping up with all the values, is there a specific pencil i need to be using, or any other tips for people just starting out in drawing?
Found this very informative, hoping there is more videos to complete a whole face.
The way you drew the shade, seems like the light is straight on top, not sideways.
All you people making nasty comments just shut up and move on. If this video didnt help you than maybe you need to practice
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 you're my hero.
It is ridiculous. It is like ppl expect results right away. Fricking practice.
Galina Kariean People are Hating because he said people do noses wrong
muy bueno video. que tipo de lapiz usaste? responde por favor
Hey man, what pencils do you use? They're great.

Can i ask that what kind of paper people always use to draw portrait? Do they use special paper or just normal print paper?
Because of You,I Have Drawn My first Neat Nose!
Very informative. I tried years ago to draw faces, but they never came out close to good. I do appreciate your talent, and may try it again? Thanks!
Wow, thanks 🙏. You're such an incredible artist and instructor. I can't have enough of watching and listening to your tutorials.
Thanks for your brilliance and sharing 💕
@thevirtualinstructor does the blending tone vary from the pressure u use one the pencil?? Just asking .... I am a beginner
what are you using to draw with? if a pencil what type then?
'Peace of kick' with your hand,Fantastic!!
Key note: know that the nose joins the frame from the eyebrows to frame the face onto the thingy that curls above the lips.
It's the cuspids bow right?
philtrum
Fuck off

depends of the nose too, my nose for example in some pictures looks like the last wrong nose, and in some poses noses can looks like that
What do you guys expect? It's just a simple tutorial, and I find it helpful to those beginners.

Thanks this was very good. I tried this with both a soft (6B) and charcoal. It may be my paper but I had a harder time with the charcoal though in the end it gave a nicer result. I found I had to rub the charcoal with my finger to get an even tone.

The space under the nose (what you called the "mustache holder") is called the philtrum or the infranasal depression. :)
