Now, just remember this, lads: I’m not saying that my opinions are facts. But my opinions are based. Based on what, you might ask? Well, based on facts, of course. Anyway, if you want to write an angry comment please don’t because I will cry. Also, sorry for going AWOL I had a bunch of Uni stuff to do + I actually had to finish this game as I wanted to be as fair as possible even though I was quite ruthless lmao
@@SnowiestAngeman Hey there. Great video. As a pretty hugeNorth Star fan I gotta say. you really do have to be a fan of both. HnK and yakuza to appreciate this game. I appreciate the ideas that they tried to implicate to catch the aesthetic of both franchises but they did way more harm than good trying to yakuza the game too much in parts where it should have just stayed a fist of the north star game and vice versa. Some of these design choices were obviously intentional like the burst being mandatory and no weapons because they're true to kenshiros character. But a lot of this shit just makes no sense at all. Like, If you're going to make a big electrical setting that literally shouldn't even logically exist because the world building in the manga is just a barren wasteland add shit and make it entertaining. What's the point in making the wasteland an actual wasteland if you've already jumped the shark at the start of the game and so forth. Also the part you said about the story mode isn't really true because actual fans of the anime don't even like it. They completely butchered characters like Jagi, souther and Raoh to make your cruiser references and just add fan service to people who watched the anime. It's like a god-awful fanfiction at times ( and before you even ask yes the original manga has way better writing than this) and the only way I even remotely enjoyed it was just turning my brain off. I just feel like the Yakuza doves tried to do too much to entertain fans of both franchises and hurt the game more than anything. It's not the worst game I ever played or anything but it's definitely a disappointing experience in my opinion if you were expecting something of more substance like I was. Thanks for making this video.
I genuinely agree with a lot of what you said. Honestly I do not feel that this was a good game and definitely not a good North Star game. Not the worst game but it needs a lot to be better.
This was my first Yakuza like game and as a fan of Fist of the North Star, I enjoyed it a lot. I agree with everything you say but I don't find the game bad at all. I liked it and it felt special to me because I never played anything like it before.
@@roshaanreddy8107 Yes, I've played Yakuza 0 just a year later, in 2020 after this game and I fell in love with the series. I've bought the Yakuza trilogy in the start of the year and started playing them in February. I'm currently on Yakuza 5 and on the finale. Then I'll buy and play Yakuza 6
One of the completionist maniacs who platinumed this thing here, and I can indeed say is is far more enjoyable if you play it as such. Still wouldn't recommend going for platinum because of the bullshit need to max out half the destiny talismans, but you avoid some of the hassle. For instance: skill orbs? Nowhere near as much a problem for me, considering you get a fair chunk of the body, soul, and skill orbs from sidequests and minigames. But the golden orbs also deliberately make it impossible to max out all your skills in one playthrough, even if you're max level. You will be short, 5 I think, necessitating a second playthrough (for instance, trying out whatever language you didn't play first.) Car? Far less of an issue. You get new music tracks by finding them in boxes in the open world, I think I ended up with at least 8, maybe more? You also find new parts this way, such as better engines, tires and, more importantly, efficient fuel tanks that let you stay out there so much longer. As for the combat, I unfortunately can't remember specifics, as I did my platinum journey about a year ago. But I can tell you there were far more fun ways to counter the hammer dudes and every other enemy through the unlockable heat moves. However, you need to know what triggers each in order to get the effective mix and match that makes you feel like a force of nature. Also not cheesing the bosses makes them more enjoyable, obviously, but I know there's those people that only use tiger drop once they have it. So, in general, Lost Paradise is far more enjoyable if you do take interest in the side offerings it offers, providing incentives to play around in its world. However, there are still several problems that persist, particularly if you aren't a fan of said offerings.
"You broke my fucking Vase? Well then you better pay me a 1,000,000,000 LIDL or some shit for my damn sidequest to get to Amon. You´re gonna be in that Cabaret club for your entire fucking life good luck." -Your Grandma
Really should have given the option to grab people as you stated, and also should have let you do some more secret techniques from the anime instead of just slapping repetive combat in. And one more thing, make the last talisman you get at the end of the story not an actual talisman, but a thing that you can activate without waiting for it to cool down for half an hour.
Yeah I didn't even cover the talismans too but they're so dumb how long you have to wait lol. More padding out game time by forcing you to wait or forcing you to waste resources
@@SnowiestAngeman they're like that to encourage you to switch up which ones you use and so you don't rely on them primarily. There's never a time when you actually need to use them so they're purely for helping in a pinch or to add some variety
No grabbing was probably a deliberate decision rather than an oversight since you fight so much in the wastelands or in places like open arenas. Even the city is a lot more open than Kamurocho.
Actually, you can UNLOCK more car song tapes with treasure maps! I for example, have unlocked the original Receive You from Yakuza 1, and many others songs present in SEGA games.
Too bad that they require luck to get unlocked. Not only to get a treasure map but also what the map leads to. Most of the time I got car parts that required stupid amounts of busy work to fix.
I mean As a HnK fan i was a little angry but then i thought: "Well, this IS a HnK games, made to fans. You wouldnt understand many things if you are a typical player. So yeah. Good video, King.
@@SnowiestAngeman I haven't played Lost Paradise bc i don't own a PS4 but most ppl play this game because they're fan of the anime(Hokuto no Ken). It might a bit contreversial topic but you've summerized the main flaws of the game. So again good video and I'll be looking foward to the future videos:)
To be fair Thouzer fight was only bullshit for like the first half until Kenshiro figures out the deal then it goes back to a regular fight. I liked that they actually used the game mechanics to show it too, with you dealing like no damage at all at first then regular damage afterwards
Yeah but it was just to pad out more game time by making the boss longer than it needed to be and relying on a cheap tactic to be able to present a challenge, only for that cheap challenge to just go away after a certain amount of time then you can just one shot the loser
The small guys are in the anime/manga as well. The world of FotNS just has this really small or gigantic dudes for no apparent reason, as well as really fashionable clothing in a post-apocalyptic world. What this game REALLY needed though was to play Ai Wo Torimodose at some point. YOU WA SHOCK! Edit: couldn't disagree more on this game being bad (I respect your opinion and won't rage about it though). Maybe I have a bias because it was my first "Yakuza" game but I had a blast playing it, it's not perfect and the padding for time issue is 100% accurate, but I loved being an OP protagonist without the game being completely braindead easy (playing on Hard). Another thing I disagree with is the story being good for a FotNS fan. The fact that I'm a fan is what makes me think the story is dogshit. They butchered Souther's character (he would never, EVER walk away in defeat in the original story! That he was willing to fight to the death even when completely outmatched by Kenshiro was the highest point of his character arc), and the original characters are horrible as well. The two traitors have the pettiest reasons for betraying that blonde girl who was basically a saint to them, and after that they just go back to being good and everything is forgiven. Oof.
Okay yes I had a suspicion that it would have been shit for a fan too but I wasn't sure lmao. You like how Raoh presents a threat for like the whole game then when he actually shows up you slap his face and he just straight up runs away? Or how like you said they betray the gang, just to not betray them literally IN THE SAME CUTSCENE? But also yeah the small guys I was actually legit asking because in all I had seen or read about Fist of the North Star I never saw them before so I was weirded out playing the game
@@SnowiestAngeman Yeah the anime/manga offers almost no explanation on the small guys or the giant ones. There's some stuff about the government experimenting with humans before the apocalypse in the Gaiden stories but it's pretty vague, and I don't think it would explain the small guys anyway. As for the story IMO they should've embraced the fanfic and focused on the original stuff. Cramping every single arc of the original story into one game while also adding a bunch of other stuff to it (Nadai and everything else regarding the Army of Ruin does not exist in the original series) was a horrible mistake. The treason plot twist was infuriating as well.
@@SnowiestAngeman If you're not a fan of Hokuto no Ken that might explain why you didn't like this game very much. Most licensed games DO require that you be a fan of the source material to put up with some of the flaws.
Personally I would just not make fucking EVERYTHING knock you down or stagger you. It's beyond infuriating. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated while playing a videogame before. Also, humanly possible QTEs on harder difficulties, a better chase fight in chapter 4 (right after the flying zombie monster thingy, you know which one -although if I can flex a bit I did it first try on DEAD SOULS difficulty), a much, much shorter subterranea and a better Amon fight.
Just finished this game yesterday, funny enough. Wasn't enough boss battles in my opinion. Alot of walking and following around too. Other than that solid game.👍
I just finished the game, and while I find the game absolutely sublime to play at times, just wanna throw in my two cents The game feels like it’s not meant to be taken seriously like Yakuza can be for the most part. Everything is over the top and it’s perfectly fine that way It really is catered to fans of Yakuza and Fist of the North Star in so many ways, but it’s done in such a weird way. Like, if they’re gonna take VAs and make them have characters that share the exact same voice, why didn’t they just use some of the more popular characters for some of them, like Rei could’ve used Akiyama’s or Saejima’s VA instead of taking the worst character in Yakuza 5. Have more impact for the fan service they were clearly banking on for the voice cast I also agree that the hammer guys suck but I found it easier to just get them into shock and then just insta kill them, which I found using dodge boost while you’re under the effect of a full 7 star gauge made it easier to get behind them to combo them to hell and back. This also worked on all bosses too, which was funny when I went to burst mode cause they can’t block or guard break your attack from behind, allowing you to pull a full ATATATATATA combo in burst without issue I played on hard and I feel the game is intentionally overturned, especially when you see the highest difficulty is called Canon, and Shin starts at the same level as the final boss does in NG+, and one combo dropped me to 30% of my health left Just to touch on it, cause you didn’t, it’s a requirement to do NG+ to unlock all skills. It’s not a “you gotta grind for this” cause I did substories instead of grinding. It’s literally that you only get so many of those yellow orbs that any amount of grinding won’t give you all your skills. And given that bosses also only give you your body/skill/mind orbs without grabbing items, you’re left with a quite messy playthrough if you don’t pick the right yellow orb skills The biggest sin though, and the worst part of the game? Kenshiro doesn’t cry even a single tear the whole game, when that’s one of the big defining things about his character in the manga; his sadness and pain brings him strength, and even had a moment at the end of the game to make it happen, and they still didn’t do it
I don't know why i watched your video and thought to myself: "This game is pretty bad huh? Imma buy it" at first i played it until the first toki boss fight then i give up. And then i bought the Kiryu skin and i suddenly have the mood to just play the game for some reason
>The story is good only for FNS fan No... It wasn't... >Good game for completionists No... It wasn't... My love and passion as an FNS and RGG fan was tested with this game.
@@SnowiestAngeman 236 total hours of playtime. It was so fucking bad. Got the 100% completion and the Platinum trophy, however at the cost of my love. Still would defend the actual combat since to me - it is so fucking badass, I LOVE IT.
I just finished this game and this video got reccomended to me immediately, like a message from the algorithm gods. Needless to say you nailed every single complaint i had too
I dunno, i only ever saw like 3 episodes of the 80s FOTNS and didn't care about completionism, yet the game felt fucking amazing and is one of my top favorites in the series along with 0 and 5. I played on hard and levelling mostly happened passively with enemies not being that much of a problem. Colored orbs were easily buyable at the coliseum, Toki's skills are nice and useful, with the last one essentially giving you a "kill all heat action" button in groups of 2 and more, combat is fast and stylish and Bosses were lots of fun for me too. Feels way better than whatever the fuck 6 was. I don't remember substories being that intrusive. I mostly ignored them and side activities aside from cabaret, karaoke hospital and bar, first one for money and Y0 feels, second one for making people explode in the rhythm of Can Can and the third one because the face Ken made every time he stirred the drink was fucking hilarious. The dub is also great, fucking shame to localization team for not rehiring the guy who did Jagi for Majima in Y7 instead of Mercer, as he was a perfect match. Fuck hammer guys though. Absolutely busted fuckers. You can stun with Ki blast and explode them but before you unlock it you're gonna fucking suffer. Also the car animation is annoying, 3 radio songs is too little and the wasteland is mostly... wasted. The biggest flaw seems to be the targeting system, which made the little fuckers hard to explode and got me into trouble in groups several times.
Jagi's voice actor is Edward Bosco, the voice of the Marauder from Doom Eternal (Also Alastor from hazbin hotel but shoosh.) Yeah, he should have been Majima, he's a great VA!
Well to address what you said, yes getting the white orbs was fine, even though you still don't get too many after levelling up so many times. But the coloured orbs being pretty much locked behind specific activities is exactly my point. It's like the Dragon Style in Kiwami 1 where you have to do things like the coliseum to get the things for the Komaki techniques. It is just unnecessary grinding for specific abilities, when everything else you CAN get naturally. If Kiwami 1 was like this, you would probably have to do something dumb like the cabaret minigames to level up Rush, or pocket circuit racing for Brawler. That's just a smelly way to do things. But also the rhythm game I thought was alright but you get it weirdly late into the game for some reason and the bar one is funny but it is just the same 3 things with no actual variance besides a smaller time limit. But it's also really easy, like, I can jerk that controller off faster than any mother fucker in all of the wild west, so it was boring poo poo. But ALSO yeah Edward Bosco is cool sadly they made him play Mabuchi in 7 but I just looked up English Dub Jagi and yeah he probably would have been a better fit haha
Man, you really nailed why I had problems with this game. Wish they had more songs in the car, hell they could have reused Karaoke songs from Yakuza 0 (keeping the 80's vibe). Don't know why they didn't have the FoTNS theme in this either since it was DLC in the Japanese version. Also could have implemented how you do heat actions better, or at least gave a better explanation of the different states. It felt like what action I did was random half of the time. Oh, and improving the quickstep would do wonders as well.
Yeah took me a bit to figure out the different states because I really didn't know what they meant. With the songs though I legit don't know why they wouldn't have made it that when you beat a boss or something you at least get their theme. Wouldn't take up any extra space on the data 'cause it's already there lol
@@Spark-bw3ph I'm aware of that, but I still found the list of initially available songs to be too small for me. Maybe if they had the option to just buy some of the songs in the market instead of relying on luck that a treasure map leads to one it would've been better.
Coming back to this as I've just finished watching the entire Fist of the North Star anime, and no, thinking back on this game with what I know of Fist of the North Star, I feel like the only thing an FotNS fan would get out of it is seeing recreations of the manga panels and being like "Oh, that's neat." It honestly feels more like a FotNS mod for Yakuza 0, and sadly not a particularly good one. Though, I don't regret playing this game, if only because it got me to watch the anime.
@@HaydenRising Yeah true because when an entire game is plagued with issues of forced grinding and is immensely repetitive that's just nitpicking, isn't it?
@@SnowiestAngeman all this points in this video are nitpicking, and I can’t think of a single open world game that isn’t repetitive, and god the yakuza series is very repetitive with shallow combat so idk what you expected
@@HaydenRising no, it IS repetitive as hell. Especially grinding all the way to lv 99. Seriously, in the other yakuza games it was pretty easy to get all the upgrades since it’s as simply as buying things to lower your hunger gauge/let yourself get your ass kicked, then eat everything in a certain restaurant over and over again. But in order to get lv 99 and unlock all the upgrades in lost paradise (and the fastest way) is to constantly beat up Toki back in Cassandra. But the problem with it is that when he hits 50, 25, and somewhere around 3-5% health. He does celestial a hundred fist rush, but if he suddenly goes to the second or third celestial from a heat move, he just does it again immediately after the other! So what would’ve been a simple grind that lasted a minute or two if your on easy mode, turns into a slideshow of him using celestial over and over again while your forced to watch it with no chance of interrupting him with a heat talisman move. And the worst part is that most of the QTE’s in it DON’T EFFECT ANYTHING! All but the last one does is power up your star gauge! And unlike in yakuza where you NEED a heat bar to do a heat move. Lost paradise can do one no matter if you have a star or not! All you have to do is fulfill a certain requirement and it’s done! So you can easily just go from one heat move to the next if you like to. And it gets even worse if you get the one toki teaches you which kills two guys at once, since all you need to do is quickstep while two guys are near you, and BOOM! You get to watch what feels like a minute long unskippable cutscene just to off two guys, which’ll probably accidentally be started again if you try quickstepping and circle again! And don’t even get me started on the shitty quickstep that doesn’t cover any distance whatsoever, my god. Hell, Kenshiro’s speed in general makes kiryu look like Yagami.
I didn’t finish the video but just in case you didn’t talk about it, I wish more of Kenshiro’s attacks could do crowd control without his rage activation
For me, I'd say a big reason I enjoyed this game is that I loved the Car. I upgraded all the components, and spent plenty of time drifting around. If a person didn't find the car traversal enjoyable, I can see why they would dislike this game lol. But the characters and gameplay were interesting enough to make me, someone who never watched FoTNS, enjoy it.
As a FotNS fan, i enjoyed it, yes, but i can agree with all the flaws that you mentioned. And i want to add something:Like, Yakuza 6 was released at the time, why they didn't made Lost Paradise in Dragon Engine? With all the ragdolls and shit? Why use old engine, for a game released in 2018? Especially with all the gore and violence that put franchise on a map. I wasn't sure about the Yakuza voice cast( because i always sticked with the anime dub, specially for Rei and Ken), but they are great. The plot was dumb, Raoh was quickly put aside - all the others iconic characters too. New characters were bland, but i remember that i enjoyed the security guard with a mohawk. Old characters were downgraded to buffs, with one line only. Lots of miss potential. Weird substories, like i need to pay a big debt or smth, i don't remember. Still, in 2019(when i bought it and played it), i had a great time with it. It was a new game, for a franchise i care about, when there is so little new content released. I don't have the nerves to get a platinum in this, because of racing and all other shit.
Yeah Jagre was actually the one character in the whole game that had a character arc where he went from angry and untrusting of Kenshiro to being his buddy. What I will say though about the game not being on the Dragon Engine was because it was clearly based off of Yakuza 0 and/or Kiwami 1 so I think the reason for that was because it was most likely in development for a fair bit considering all of the unique assets and mechanics and what not they had to design and program. Probs woulda been too much of a hassle to swap engines at that point in development and they most likely would have just stuck with 0/Kiwami 1 as their base
Ironically, I thought the game was too short, I found the combat to be surprisingly addicting, and the minigames, while being repetitive, took advantage of the over the top spirit of FOTNS perfectly. That being said, you're absolutely right about the car, dear Christ sometimes trying to obtain a material that's literally next to me is a nightmare because the car JUST WON'T STOP DRIFTING.
I agree with that fact that they added a lot of shit to the main story in order to extend gameplay time and that it can become quite annoying at times, especially if you want to do a second playthrough, but I don't think it's a bad game because of that. The combat was the best part in my opinion, really enjoyable. I kind of enjoyed driving around the wasteland, it was calming, even if the car felt uncontrollable at times. The story is bland but it's so full of fan service that I enjoyed it. My only big complain with FOTNSLP has to be the grind for the platinum. The cabaret grind, the racing grind and in particular the talisman grind were insufferable, even if I enjoyed the gameplay, grinding the same race over and over again or loading and reloading saves just so I could get a 0/00 on the roullete where the most boring things I've ever done in a game. Thankfully the platinum is just optional, but for my completionist mind I had to power through it no matter what.
Nah the Platinum's in all of the Yakuza games are pretty shit haha. I have I think about 13 Platinums and they're all in games I love (or were easy Platinums) but as much as I love Yakuza, fuck doing all what you need to do to get them lmao. Really dumb though because most of the annoying grind in Yakuza games are from things like poo poo Mahjong and the luck based ones like Roulette, but in this game it will sometimes force you to do that sort of grinding in order to proceed. In some instances, you might get told you need to build a part. So you do a race to unlock the blueprint and you'd think "well I have it, right?" But then it makes you go out and get a bunch of materials which MIGHT take a few seconds, but even just the act of having to go all the way to a place to buy something, or driving around outside, just proves my point of forced grinding to delay the game's length. Again, even if it's only a few minutes, the fact that it does it all the time made me want to die.
As a yakuza fan, I agree. Though there are two things I would add. Some of the cinematic heat moves would be better if they were quicker. Some of them lasted way too long, when you are just waiting for them to explode. Secondly. I would love it when in the wasteland, radio music would still play when fighting enemies. Some of those tracks are hype and great fighting music. Plus I wouldn't need to hear the same fighting music over and over again. I was getting sick of it
I really hope one day, they would consider to collaborate with SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku studio to make a new Dragon Ball game with Fist Of The North Star: Lost Paradise/Yakuza Kiwami gameplay style starring Jiren as the main protagonist fighting against the hordes of Frieza Army, Android Army, Evil Saiyan Army, Majin Army, etc. Owari Da!
How could it be better? Well, my only issue with the game is that they don’t fully commit to the new world they’re creating. They keep throwing in parts of the original manga, and it’s just super jarring. So, story was kinda blegh, but gameplay is still fantastic
I would have liked more playable characters. Thats one thing I enjoyed with kens rage 2 was there were so many characters. Maybe like an arena or vs mode where you can pick people and go head to head, id even take a side mode where you can run around the city as someone else
You know saying that actually makes me think about how Rei was kinda like a secondary main character. Coulda been cool to play as him maybe? But with this game I feel like it was taking a long time to develop so they just sorta cut a lot of corners to get it out. I say that because the game is clearly based off assets from Yakuza 0/Kiwami 1 even though it came out not long before Judgment. Then they lengthened the game with grinding and stuff which is mostly what I complain about lol. BUT, if they ever did a sequel or successor or something I would hope that they would invest more time and resources into it so I guess here's hoping
This is a special example of a game made for fans of the manga and not much for the random Yakuza players. When I played it myself I could feel my skills just not being there and even Amon fight was far more different making me lose way too often.
Much of what you said is fair. My biggest gripe is how some things that would be more handy in early/mid game like some destiny talismans are complete ass until you get them max refine and high enhancement. And it more or less takes the same amount of effort and resources to max out the amazing ones as it does the crap ones. As for difficulty spikes, sounds like a skill issue. Game was fun as hell. Could have used some more mini game variety. I'd love to see another one.
I think this game must be released on PC and Xbox One, since this is not Judgment, where Yagami's actor's talent agency won't let SEGA port that game to PC.
I sorta thought that Raoh wanting a rematch and just kinda standing there during the ending was referencing when they fight in the actual shows/mangas and whatever
The freeze parry was a thing in Kiwami (and I guess 0 too) with the Rush parry. If you input buffer the rush combo after the parry the hitstun doesn’t register. Really fucks you up on low recovery bosses (in K1). That said the parry is terrible and inconsistent you’re better off using the shitty quickstep that covers no distance and comes with no escape function. 3/4s of the moves you get only work on the guys that die in one hit. And they chose some of the worst enemy movesets to import from the other RGG games(fucking wrestler’s tackle?! Really?!!!).
It felt like a low budget game but I still had lot of fun with it. I was just really happy to be able to play a good Fist of the North Star game. The other games (Ken's Rage 1 and 2) both had the Dynasty Warriors formula and were really repetitive and meh
I really enjoyed this game. I always love returning to it because the combat is just so fun. All the secret techniques that you can perform are just amazing. Yes the story is quite simplistic and the gameplay is pretty grindy. But I don't mind that. Gives me more reason to keep playing and unlock more moves. The bartender minigame is hilarious in my opinion. The car does control like ass though. But I've played countless games with terrible controls so I got used to it. Plus, I like fist of the north star. But you don't have to be a fist of the north star fan to like this game because it's an original story. Also, if you like Yakuza, I think you will like this game. It's pretty much the same thing. Just with a lot of quick time events. I'm fine with not being able to grab opponents. The hokuto shinken style wasn't really meant to grab people. It's mainly for pressure points.
I got the platinum for it and it wasn't that bad for Yakuza standards (still bad for normal standards though). Took me 6 to 8 hours of grinding the cabaret, arena and races after finishing the main story. The western version only requires 50% of the completion list for the plat, if it needed 100% then it would absolutely be an inescapable hell of a grind.
Fair lol I just said good for completionists because the game is just one big grind. Some completionists though have a fetish for wasting 2000 hours of their life on pointless things like shiny hunters in Pokemon, so I mean maybe people like them might enjoy it
As someone who got the plat on this game the other day, no, you will not enjoy this as a completionist! I spent a full day in the colliseum, maybe a bit more, half a day in the casino and another half in the races The clinic is a shit replacement for karaoke and the substories are nothing to write about, except the 100 mil IDL one i could write a thesis about that being a bad
ok if this game is soooo bad as you say why then didn't you change Kenshiro in the thumbnail into giga chad like the other videos EXACTLY BECAUSE THIS GAME IS ALREADY GIGA CHAD
I didn't mind the game at all. Combo potential was a lot better in this game than other Yakuza titles, so when I got good, I felt 'really' cool. But I will admit the game felt really fluffed out for the sake of packing in hours. It's just the Yakuza 0/K1 engine used by a side-team to make a licensed game for a quick buck. And to be honest? I've played worse anime cash grab games. This is one of the more competent ones, that at least put in a lot of effort for its fan service.
I would've way preferred the game if it didn't have all the grinding that's for sure. But the grinding is about 80% of the game sooo like :/. If they did ever make a sequel or anything else like it again I wouldn't mind giving it a go but as long as they just accept that the game is short and don't try to lengthen it artificially haha
Comparing it to the high stanard of Like a Dragon games, its not as good, much lower budget and not as polished. Still really fun though if you don't take it so serious Its a nice bite sized experience to play in between larger releases and I don't mind that since most yakuza games are very long Compard to other anime games though its incredible, there are many other animes games I wish got at least this level of treatment (Jojo) and still the best FOTNS game ever.
Tbh most of your points are completely correct but for me I think the good stuff outweighs the bad just enough for me to like the game, though that’s mostly because I really enjoyed the combat for the most part, but yeah the shit that sucks is really sucks
I played the game, loved it, but despite that I agree with alot of your points. A few things I wanna bring up, see them as counterpoints or criticisms or whatever: -Little guys exist because they're a minor enemy Kenshiro faces at one point and I guess they were looking for enemy variety. -Thouzer's gimmick is basically the entire arc of Kenshiro's fights with him compressed into one fight. Ken gets fucking destroyed the first time cause his point attacks aren't working and he doesn't realize why until half-way through the second fight. As someone who's not a fan I could get that its a little annoying but dang its crazy actually FEELING that helplessness as you barely do damage against him, other games like Ken's Ragejust pull a "haha you won but you didn't." -Car radio actually has 8 tracks, you find more using the treasure maps just like the retro games. -Sprinting point is funny to me. Not because I disagree with it, Kenshiro runs pretty slow, but I remember the Japanese version of this game actually controls like Yakuza 6 in this regard, I hear in a patch they added an option to not hold X and the western release basically locked this to ON. Yeah, the fact is you ARE technically sprinting, Ken's just slower than Kiryu lol. Plz don't cry, I did like your video and hope you'll make more. :)
Bruh that one with sprinting is dumb I had no idea. He feels like a god damn slug. The car radio is also more silliness because you have to actively go out and find something if you don't want to hear someone go YEEEEEEEEAAAHHHHH or two other songs every single time you hop into your car. Should just be things you unlock by advancing the story OR should just have all 8 by default. The little guys someone else already clarified that one for me but I was actually asking why they existed because I had never seem them before haha. But THOUZER. MAN. I could tell it was obviously something special to do with him, but if they wanted to go balls to the wall you could've fought him maybe twice. First time you could have probably lost regardless of the outcome and then you fight him again but straight away Kenshiro figures out his weakness and you fight him properly. Having it all done in the one fight was dumb because just the first half of the fight is extended for no explicable reason, then the second half you whoop that bitch. Smelly poo poo game time padding. Even though it's a few minutes, it adds up. Quite a lot.
unlocking abilities is really hard like you said for actually unlocking all abilities you need to complete main story twice for shining orbs and im at 55hrs and 30min and i still need to unlock 31 abilities and the amount of experience you gain is really pitiful but it is nowhere near a bad game its a weak yakuza game but for fotns fans its a 9\10 game
Yeah like I said it could be enjoyed by a Fist of the North Star fan or a completionist lol. But far out you honestly have to beat the game twice for the shining orbs? That's asking a bit much, isn't it?
@Tiger Festivals Yeah but Kiwami 1 tiger drop is OP. Or the Judgment Flux Fissure. But you get both of those without needing to do extensive amounts of grinding lol
@@tigerfestivals5137 i dont know wether you have seen the abilities board fully but if you invest your orbs properly you can clearly see a lot of abilities are really useless for example extend burst duration for 0.5 sec if it was something like 5 sec or something ok but 0.5 sec i dont know what to say and the beginning ones are mostly useless And that talismans each and everyone is useless except fate talisman and compassionate talisman i genuinely dont know why did they even gave a separate skill tree for it
Nice video mate, keep it up! I can agree on all the flaws you pointed out, as a Ryu Ga Gotoku game, its a weak one but in terms of the Fist of the North Star franchise, its waay better than koei's attempt to channel Dynasty warriors with Kens Rage 1 and 2.
As a fan of FotS and Yakuza games, I agree with your concerns. This game is like the Fairy Tail RPG to me : Low budget game with so many highs and lows. But if you manage to get over the lows, it can be actually really fun ! This game is average in graphics, Wasteland is boring, Story sucks, few cutscenes, has the worst grind fest ever (good luck for the amulet trophy and the 100 million side quest, god patience required) and little enemy variety. HOWEVER, the gameplay is really fun to me, with the best looking and stylish Heat Moves, good combo system, fun mini games, channeling strike is great (and with the skill unlocked, you can chain perfect channeling strikes when in low health, becoming literally Toki if you have perfect timing, so godlike) and the QTE are awesome. This game has also to me the best theme of all Yakuza game, Receive you North Star, beating Update with gunfire from Kiwami 2. Oh Well. I'm actually one of the few to constantly put gameplay over graphics and story in video games.
Watched the video 2 months ago, and then I played the game and got de platinum and is now my second yakuza game, I don´t agree with the your points. But I liked soo much the video good video by the way
I agree with the vast majority of what you said but despite the flaws the combat is still enjoyable enough for me to like the game plus being a Fist Of The North Star fan helps. I gotta get back into the series though because Kiwami 1, Like a North Star, and Kiwami 2 were back to back disappointments for me with Kiwami 2 being so bad that I dropped what I previously considered my favorite series. I've heard great things about Judgement though.
As someone who got this game's platinum, I do agree on many of these, especially the story, the bad car controls, the empty city and more. Although i don't agree with some (you can find music in the world map with ease: they're in treasure chests. not even rare), I think you nailed most of it. My only real complain is that if you don't bother with postgame content, you're essentially missing 90% of the content and that's really annoying, because you're not even motivated to play it if you're so underpowered!
I actually really agree with a lot of points here, and I would go as far as to say that (Maybe minus Dead Souls as I haven't played it) FotNS: LP is probably RGG Studio's weakest game they've ever made. They have a lot of good ideas going here, but there's just so much repetitiveness that it really drains a lot of fun to be had in the game. Additionally, it was super weird going BACK to pre-Dragon Engine after they had already made two games, with another in development in the Dragon Engine at the time of this game's release. Ken's flowy combat could have been improved on so much in the Dragon Engine, and I really have no idea why they didn't use it.
I think in the 8 mainline games and two Judgments I ranked this 4th or 5th, which is a respectable placement. The story is terrible but I'm not a Fist of the North Star fan so I don't know how much of it is the game and how much is the source material. I enjoyed quite a few side activities, my only gripe being having to unlock the arcade. The bartending is a novelty, but one that's short enough that you're not sick of it by the end. The rhythm doctor game is similar. One thing I REALLY wish they would take from this game into other RGG/Yakuza games are the QTEs. I found it really fun getting to do extra damage with heat moves by timing inputs well, and I especially loved the rhythmic aspects during some of the boss fights. Bring that back. Overall, it's not the best RGG game, but I would totally play it again. I would rather take a cactus to my ass than play 3 or 4 again.
Yeah I know that now but further proves my point I made 'cause if you don't want to hear the same three songs while driving you have to do smelly treasure map stuff instead of getting a song after beating a boss or somethin' simple like that
Often our opinions and enjoyment or lack of enjoyment in a game can depend on our mindset in the real world. I have played all 8 Yakuza games and Judgment and I recognize all this games flaws. That said, I must have been in a damn happy place when playing this because I had a blast. My reasoning skills tell me this game is vastly inferior to the rest, but my fun with it ranks as high as any game in the series.
Are we not going to talk about that really stupid delay between hitting a channeling point and being able to throw the enemy after? Like you had to hit the channeling point and sit there for a good whole second just to avoid getting a heavy attack by mistake.
I feel like they were just forced by sega to make use of the North Star IP, I enjoyed it but I can definitely agree with your points almost entirely. It only served to take talent away from the mainline development. Tho I did hear at one point that they were using this game to train newer employees but I can’t confirm
I love Fist Of The North Star but holy shit. This game took me two years to finally beat 🤣. Not because its difficult, but because it gets incredibly stale after like 8 hours... The driving bits DO NOT HELP 🤣

@@SnowiestAngeman
Hey there.
You had me at
" I’m not saying that my opinions are facts. But my opinions are B A S E D".
Understandable have a nice day
Ok
Have you played the other yakuza games after this?
@@roshaanreddy8107 Yes, I've played Yakuza 0 just a year later, in 2020 after this game and I fell in love with the series. I've bought the Yakuza trilogy in the start of the year and started playing them in February. I'm currently on Yakuza 5 and on the finale. Then I'll buy and play Yakuza 6
Watch boku no pico its top tier not even Jojo can match it
One of the completionist maniacs who platinumed this thing here, and I can indeed say is is far more enjoyable if you play it as such.
You will be short, 5 I think, necessitating a second playthrough (for instance, trying out whatever language you didn't play first.)
Car?
You´re gonna be in that Cabaret club for your entire fucking life good luck."

All this dragonball music is making me nostalgic
Same lol the Budokai 3 opening aptly describes my childhood
@@SnowiestAngeman it was stupid though to lock out 2 heat actions for the talismans instead of letting you do them whenever you want
No grabbing was probably a deliberate decision rather than an oversight since you fight so much in the wastelands or in places like open arenas. Even the city is a lot more open than Kamurocho.
I just spammed the chicken one and Toki's one on bosses TBH

It sounds like Zhao takes Kiryu’s skin and trying to act like Kenshiro.

Thank you I'm glad you enjoy them :) probably going to get a lot of people that won't enjoy this one
@@SnowiestAngeman I haven't played Lost Paradise bc i don't own a PS4 but most ppl play this game because they're fan of the anime(Hokuto no Ken). You are one of the two people that makes text based videos entertaining to me, congrats bud I love these videos.
Hell yeah glad you like them
Extremely unexpected but most welcome tho
To be fair Thouzer fight was only bullshit for like the first half until Kenshiro figures out the deal then it goes back to a regular fight. I liked that they actually used the game mechanics to show it too, with you dealing like no damage at all at first then regular damage afterwards
Yeah but it was just to pad out more game time by making the boss longer than it needed to be and relying on a cheap tactic to be able to present a challenge, only for that cheap challenge to just go away after a certain amount of time then you can just one shot the loser
@@SnowiestAngeman It wouldn't have been such a bad boss design if the rest of the game didn't seem like it was stalling for time.
@@SnowiestAngemanOkay, but that’s literally how it goes down in the manga and anime.
Oof.
Heard Ai Wo Torimodose was DLC in the Japanese version but wasn't included in the western release. Guess it was a licensing issue.
@@MrDevious88 I don't know if that makes me happier or sadder. Thanks for the info, though.
Now do Dead souls so we have a complete series.
I didn't like the game but I mean yeah there weren't many bosses. Very short game, after all
Too much talking… not enough meaningful fights. Other than the duels it’s a mid game imo.
Also why does the dragon ball music fit so well. My childhood is crying but my brain is like ,Jesus Christ
That's because Dragon Ball video game OSTs are always bangers
I just finished the game, and while I find the game absolutely sublime to play at times, just wanna throw in my two cents
The game feels like it’s not meant to be taken seriously like Yakuza can be for the most part. Everything is over the top and it’s perfectly fine that way
It really is catered to fans of Yakuza and Fist of the North Star in so many ways, but it’s done in such a weird way. Like, if they’re gonna take VAs and make them have characters that share the exact same voice, why didn’t they just use some of the more popular characters for some of them, like Rei could’ve used Akiyama’s or Saejima’s VA instead of taking the worst character in Yakuza 5. Have more impact for the fan service they were clearly banking on for the voice cast
I also agree that the hammer guys suck but I found it easier to just get them into shock and then just insta kill them, which I found using dodge boost while you’re under the effect of a full 7 star gauge made it easier to get behind them to combo them to hell and back. This also worked on all bosses too, which was funny when I went to burst mode cause they can’t block or guard break your attack from behind, allowing you to pull a full ATATATATATA combo in burst without issue
I played on hard and I feel the game is intentionally overturned, especially when you see the highest difficulty is called Canon, and Shin starts at the same level as the final boss does in NG+, and one combo dropped me to 30% of my health left
Just to touch on it, cause you didn’t, it’s a requirement to do NG+ to unlock all skills. It’s not a “you gotta grind for this” cause I did substories instead of grinding. It’s literally that you only get so many of those yellow orbs that any amount of grinding won’t give you all your skills. And given that bosses also only give you your body/skill/mind orbs without grabbing items, you’re left with a quite messy playthrough if you don’t pick the right yellow orb skills
The biggest sin though, and the worst part of the game?
Kenshiro doesn’t cry even a single tear the whole game, when that’s one of the big defining things about his character in the manga; his sadness and pain brings him strength, and even had a moment at the end of the game to make it happen, and they still didn’t do it
I don't know why i watched your video and thought to myself: "This game is pretty bad huh? Imma buy it" at first i played it until the first toki boss fight then i give up. And then i bought the Kiryu skin and i suddenly have the mood to just play the game for some reason
The Kiryu skin does actually raise the games quality by about 30% so that’s fair
@@SnowiestAngeman Couldn't agree more lmao

236 total hours of playtime.
Needless to say you nailed every single complaint i had too
Glad to hear it haha lot of people just think I'm nit-picky and biased therefore I am wrong
Jagi's voice actor is Edward Bosco, the voice of the Marauder from Doom Eternal (Also Alastor from hazbin hotel but shoosh.)
Yeah, he should have been Majima, he's a great VA!
As great as Mercer is i agree totally that Edward Bosco should have been Majima
I’m just gonna say, you’re a Chad for saying that 0 and 5 are the best Yakuza games. Chad energy radiating from this comment thread.
FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR ROCKS AND IS THE BEST EVER...
There was more songs, you just have to find them
@@Spark-bw3ph I'm aware of that, but I still found the list of initially available songs to be too small for me.
Yeah it really is like a weird mod for Yakuza 0 lol
What'd i say? If we had Jagi, none of this would've happened!
Jagi moment.

You're god damn right
@@SnowiestAngeman this is a joke right? This video is just nitpicks
Yeah you kinda need rage or specific circumstances to do his grab and cc moves which is a bit annoying
Finish the video >:( but also I did not but it was a bit of a pain dealing with groups considering most enemy encounters have like 15 enemies
Oh BT2 music, it's been a while
What if the kiryu skin was just your thumbnail, Kenshiro just wearing the suit, seeing straight up Kiryu with the other cast is very offputting
Yeah lol that probably would've been a lot less ridiculous
For me, I'd say a big reason I enjoyed this game is that I loved the Car. I upgraded all the components, and spent plenty of time drifting around. If a person didn't find the car traversal enjoyable, I can see why they would dislike this game lol. But the characters and gameplay were interesting enough to make me, someone who never watched FoTNS, enjoy it.
Yeah that's fair enough. You're allowed to enjoy whatever you wanna enjoy
Even when you pick kiryu he still never kills. He just makes them sleep.
He didn't kill them, they were already dead!
@@savvassavvides6681 nice
I love yakuza games
Yes
I'm now going to write an angry comment about your opinion, even though I haven't played the game myself. Get ready:
You're wrong.
:(
Next video: How OG Yakuza 1&2 Could Have Been Way Better
Probs one day if I get the chance to play them
I would have liked more playable characters.
BUT, if they ever did a sequel or successor or something I would hope that they would invest more time and resources into it so I guess here's hoping
the budokai tenkaichi 2 music hits different
Hell yeah it does
AW HELL YEAH
This is a special example of a game made for fans of the manga and not much for the random Yakuza players. When I played it myself I could feel my skills just not being there and even Amon fight was far more different making me lose way too often.
you are the kind of guy to say yakuza 6 combat is better than this
The fact that it takes forever to level up is more of a nuisance than the smol and big enemies combined.
Indeed, especially since the actually good abilities are all late unlocks :(
@@SnowiestAngeman i literally beaten this game at lv30, fought full power Toki at 25, and I got little to no EXP
MADLAD LISTENED TO ME
Maybe I did
Now we have to petition him to play Yakuza Dead Souls and torture himself
All Sega needs to do is release this on PC then make a sequel since its destined that Raoh wanted a rematch after beating him.
I sorta thought that Raoh wanting a rematch and just kinda standing there during the ending was referencing when they fight in the actual shows/mangas and whatever
Vs Thouzer (or Souther) and his music was a pure joy
Imagine Kenshiro and Kiryu actually meet.
I wanted to make some argument, but I kept in mind that out of all the RGG games, I never bothered to finish this one. I even finished the PS2 Games.
Good stuff using Budokai Tenkaichi music, games are still bangers
Fun fact:
Kiryu is part-reincarnation of kenahiro
Man, even as a fist of the North Star fan and Ryu Ga Gotoku fan this game was just misery and disappointment the whole way through
I agree lmao
It felt like a low budget game but I still had lot of fun with it.
I was just really happy to be able to play a good Fist of the North Star game. The other games (Ken's Rage 1 and 2) both had the Dynasty Warriors formula and were really repetitive and meh
Yeah well like I said in the video it could be enjoyed by a Fist of the North Star fan
Ugh
It might be disappointing but it is better than the previous ones to me.
>Dragon Ball music
Instant like
This still had one of the best Amon fights in the series personally. You don't get as crazy as this.
Budokai 3 music this is a godly choice
Thouzer fight is good stuff for Fist of the North Star fans.
His gimmick plays out like the story in the original, except, in game.
The only thing I disagree with is that “it’s good for completionists” because I’ve seen videos on it being an absolute hell grind.
Some completionists though have a fetish for wasting 2000 hours of their life on pointless things like shiny hunters in Pokemon, so I mean maybe people like them might enjoy it
bro its so hard to unlock things its taken me 4-5 days alone to get lvl 30
As someone who got the plat on this game the other day, no, you will not enjoy this as a completionist!
I spent a full day in the colliseum, maybe a bit more, half a day in the casino and another half in the races
The clinic is a shit replacement for karaoke and the substories are nothing to write about, except the 100 mil IDL one i could write a thesis about that being a bad
ok if this game is soooo bad as you say why then didn't you change Kenshiro in the thumbnail into giga chad like the other videos EXACTLY BECAUSE THIS GAME IS ALREADY GIGA CHAD
Ya got me :(
I didn't mind the game at all.
Because of this game I bought yakuza 0-7
Comparing it to the high stanard of Like a Dragon games, its not as good, much lower budget and not as polished. Still really fun though if you don't take it so serious
Its a nice bite sized experience to play in between larger releases and I don't mind that since most yakuza games are very long
Compard to other anime games though its incredible, there are many other animes games I wish got at least this level of treatment (Jojo) and still the best FOTNS game ever.
Tbh I dont mind grinding just as long as the fighting is good enough for me to enjoy.
no way theres actually a kiryu outfit in the game
There is. I thought it was a mod but it's about $6 AUD lmao
It's a DLC skin/outfit in the game.
Tbh most of your points are completely correct but for me I think the good stuff outweighs the bad just enough for me to like the game, though that’s mostly because I really enjoyed the combat for the most part, but yeah the shit that sucks is really sucks
rgg could easily make the best anime video game adaptation if they got the rights to jojo part 4 and just made morioh fully explorable
Oh damn that would actually be really fun
I played the game, loved it, but despite that I agree with alot of your points. A few things I wanna bring up, see them as counterpoints or criticisms or whatever:
-Little guys exist because they're a minor enemy Kenshiro faces at one point and I guess they were looking for enemy variety.
-Thouzer's gimmick is basically the entire arc of Kenshiro's fights with him compressed into one fight. Ken gets fucking destroyed the first time cause his point attacks aren't working and he doesn't realize why until half-way through the second fight. As someone who's not a fan I could get that its a little annoying but dang its crazy actually FEELING that helplessness as you barely do damage against him, other games like Ken's Ragejust pull a "haha you won but you didn't."
-Car radio actually has 8 tracks, you find more using the treasure maps just like the retro games.
Quite a lot.
unlocking abilities is really hard like you said
for actually unlocking all abilities you need to complete main story twice for shining orbs
and im at 55hrs and 30min and i still need to unlock 31 abilities and the amount of experience you gain is really pitiful
but it is nowhere near a bad game its a weak yakuza game but for fotns fans its a 9\10 game
Yeah like I said it could be enjoyed by a Fist of the North Star fan or a completionist lol. But far out you honestly have to beat the game twice for the shining orbs? That's asking a bit much, isn't it?
@@SnowiestAngeman to be fair some of those abilities are overpowered as fuck so getting them during new game plus kinda makes sense
@Tiger Festivals Yeah but Kiwami 1 tiger drop is OP. Or the Judgment Flux Fissure. But you get both of those without needing to do extensive amounts of grinding lol
@@tigerfestivals5137 i dont know wether you have seen the abilities board fully but if you invest your orbs properly you can clearly see a lot of abilities are really useless for example extend burst duration for 0.5 sec if it was something like 5 sec or something ok but 0.5 sec i dont know what to say and the beginning ones are mostly useless
And that talismans each and everyone is useless except fate talisman and compassionate talisman i genuinely dont know why did they even gave a separate skill tree for it
Hopefully we get a sequel or smth like it
Nice video mate, keep it up! I can agree on all the flaws you pointed out, as a Ryu Ga Gotoku game, its a weak one but in terms of the Fist of the North Star franchise, its waay better than koei's attempt to channel Dynasty warriors with Kens Rage 1 and 2.
Well like I said definitely good for a North Star fan, but not really for anyone else lol
But I liked soo much the video good video by the way
It's just grindy as hell basically lol. But glad you still liked the video thank you
I agree with the vast majority of what you said but despite the flaws the combat is still enjoyable enough for me to like the game plus being a Fist Of The North Star fan helps.
Ken's flowy combat could have been improved on so much in the Dragon Engine, and I really have no idea why they didn't use it.
yo! you kinda look like roland! rip roland.
We need a new one ! 💯👌🏾
To make it better they should bring back the launch edition talisman dlc because they are expired after 2 years and there’s no way to get them.
you are nitpicking and biased, i win you lose bye bye
btw you can get more car songs
Yeah I know that now but further proves my point I made 'cause if you don't want to hear the same three songs while driving you have to do smelly treasure map stuff instead of getting a song after beating a boss or somethin' simple like that
RGG studio should make a Naruto game.
Lmao that would be interesting
There will be "How Yakuza Dead Souls Could Have Been Way Better" anytime

Often our opinions and enjoyment or lack of enjoyment in a game can depend on our mindset in the real world. I have played all 8 Yakuza games and Judgment and I recognize all this games flaws. That said, I must have been in a damn happy place when playing this because I had a blast. My reasoning skills tell me this game is vastly inferior to the rest, but my fun with it ranks as high as any game in the series.
just a heads up, there's actually more then 3 songs on the buggy. But you gotta get them from treasure maps 😭
Budokai Tenkaichi 2 theme
Are we not going to talk about that really stupid delay between hitting a channeling point and being able to throw the enemy after? Like you had to hit the channeling point and sit there for a good whole second just to avoid getting a heavy attack by mistake.
Yeah true I forgot how bad it was because I would never try to throw them. I just preferred to kill them lol
I mean, you’re right 🤷🏻♂️
I feel like they were just forced by sega to make use of the North Star IP, I enjoyed it but I can definitely agree with your points almost entirely.
Budokai tenkaichi for ever tho . How did you get such a good quality version of the song lol
Took a while but found a good one on UA-cam haha
Alright you convinced me to get a playstation thank you
I felt Bartending to be quite fun
