I'm playing this game on hard mode and it's strange. It ranges from comicly easy or bizarrely frustrating. It's definitely a fun time so far. I can't wait to have a day off to just play it uninterrupted.
I’ve been playing on hard to I’m 4 hrs in and it feels easy up to this point. Hopefully it gets a little more challenging. I’m still enjoying the game so far.
I love your stuff. It's the mannerisms and delivery for me. You have such authentic excitement when talking about the games you play and that's how I feel when I watch it too. It's a ride for all of us when we watch you, it's like we feel what you feel. Not too over the top - not underselling or monotone.
@@thepig6054 I always trust his reviews. The gameplay doesn't appeal to me enough to jump on this one but the review is great and his delivery is wonderful.

"This feels like a renaissance for Square Enix". Just this. For us who have experienced the older games, it feels so great seeing back titles like Valkyrie, Tactics Ogre, Star Ocean, Live A Live, Dragon Quest and many more! The newer games may not always satisfy everyone, sure, but the fact that they come back at least means something. It gives you the sense of continuity, both of evolution and respect to the roots - which is very important for a company like Square Enix. It also helps newer gamers rediscover the older titles and appreciate them more. Let’s hope that this goes on, with more and more titles getting rediscovered, getting remakes or remasters… or even a brand new start.
Not hating, but i feel like between valkyrie, diofield and star ocean, this game feels like the weakest of the 3. Diofield is definitely a budget game, but its really well designed. Beautiful character design, complex story, totally innovative combat with enough rpg mechanic like skill tree, weapons and ability point system. Star ocean has around 7 playable character, giant map, cities, vertical exploration, and also enough rpg mechanics. While valkyrie elysium has a fun flashy combat, but nothing more :(
Actually I didn’t feel diofield is too much a “budget” game, the cut scenes are already better made than many AAA games I played recently where they would just give you card board story telling .. I’m liking diofield a lot so far
@@hoihoi13 isnt diofield also under the category of cardboard storytelling since most of the stories are being told via moving pictures instead of properly animated 3D model? And what AAA game that you played has a cardboard storytelling?
My only gripe as someone who spent my life playing Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, dodging or jumping doesn't cancel your attack animations. There was a lot of times when i pressed dodge button and Valkyrie didn't react cause she was in the middle of an attack. (the same happens in Scarlet Nexus :( ) Also enemies sometimes just decide to slide towards you during grab animations so you get grabbed from meters away. Other than that i just finished it all 4 endings 100% collection and i really liked it. 7/10, a short game, nothing especially interesting but all systems, map designs and story while simple are solid and enjoyable

I was super impressed with Valkyrie Elysium. The combat system is so much fun, so smooth. I’m a huge fan of the series. I was worried based on the trailer but the demo impressed me so much! I played the demo like 6 times 😸
I tried the demo for this tonight and ended up buying it. I really enjoyed the combat in it and that's what really got me hooked. It's not perfect but it's a damn fun experience.
As someone who has beaten all three Valkyrie Profile games, I REALLY wanted to like this game but it feel like the game is trying to be both a Valkyrie profile and devil may cry game but falls a bit short. I beat the demo and I feel like the game would be much better if they simply added a Guard cancel or evade cancel to your combo. I would pick it up if they added that in or dropped the price. Hopefully others enjoy more than I did.
Have you played that Wo Long demo? That was a game in which the amount of different controls actually overwhelmed me and turned me off of it. Valkyrie Elysium not by a long shot, I really loved the demo! Had a lot of fun! And can't wait to play the full game.
I've never played a Valkyrie game before, but my friend has always been a huge fan of the original Valkyrie Profile, so when I saw this was upcoming I figured I'd give it a shot. Played (and finished) the demo on my PS5 last night, and while I don't know how it compares to the other games in the series, I had a lot of fun with it and am planning on picking up the full game when it releases in a couple of days.
It's very different than the rest of the series. The rest was a turn based rpg kind of and now it's an action rpg. Elysium is much easier to ger into imo. The big similarity between the games is that you focus on a Valkyrie and all sidekicks are Einheriars
I preordered DioField Chronicles, Valkyrie Elysium, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Dragon Quest Treasures, and FF Crisis Core Reunion. I will be buying Ogre Tactics, Front Mission, and Harvestella too. Inject Square Soft RPGs into my veins.
If I had to choose between this and Star Ocean, Star Ocean got my money! I appreciate this SquareEnix renaissance we're going through now. I'll get it on sale for sure

Also I feel like with 2d-3d being quite popular due to Octopath Traveler success, and games like Triangle Strategy and Live a Live, we may get something intriguing among the line, like FFVI remake in such way
Square-Enix is on fire lately, we get a 2D HD remake of Live A Live, Front Mission 1,2, and 3 remakes, a new Valkyrie game, let's not forget a new Star Ocean, Diofield is also another great game, it feels like Square from mid 90s on the first Playstation console
It really does feel like Square Enix is going back to their roots and trying to bring back old and new games from their backlog of great IP. I am here for it 100%.
I always thought it strange that you never speak about the original Valkyrie Profile, a 10/10 game for me. But I was hoping to hear your take on this one, I'm not convinced with the change of genre, as the original turn-based battle system was incredible

Still ultimately a Black Friday pickup for me as much as I wanted to get the steelbook. I just feel like the action combat is repetitive and can be boring for me. So I figure picking it up on sale will work just fine.
I don't like to try Demos and I never played a Valkyrie game before, but when I played this one 2 days ago and I really enjoy it, and as you said it has that YS games feeling
Have you ever done a review for Valkyrie Profile? I was interested in starting it and was seeing what you thought on it since I put a lot of stock in your opinion on RPG's
I really like it. I was looking to scratch my combat itch after coming down from Elden Ring and it was a choice of this, Steel Rising, or Thymesia. I watched people play all three online but I could actually play the demo of this one and that sealed the deal and I pre-ordered a couple of weeks back. I agree it's all about the combat; it's quite an extensive moveset but it's still easy for an unskilled player like me to put together a stylish looking combo and finisher. It's the kind of game that makes me feel better than I actually am, unlike Elden Ring which reminded of that constantly 🙂. I played the demo on normal and only died once (to the final demo boss, first time out) that suggests to me that it should manageable to just about anyone who likes the look of it. This was my first JRPG(?) type game and I like the art style, it's different to anything else I've seen but still has that Soulsborne world in decline kind of feel.
After seeing all the old ip that square are showing love to right now, I would really like to see a new parasite eve game. That would be amazing, 3rd birthday was so long ago, and on a handheld. I feel like a aaa budget PE game would be fantastic based on the hardware and dev tools available now
I hope it's just a spinoff - VP3 with the original characters, battle system, feeling, art and all is what the community has been waiting over a decade for. But if it is... glad to hear it's being well received and distinctive einherjar are back!
I just bought Trails From Zero and I'll be getting new Star Ocean game. I can't buy every new game that comes out! But I'll get this at a good sale during black Friday.

Still ultimately a Black Friday pickup for me as much as I wanted to get the steelbook. I just feel like the action combat is repetitive and can be boring for me. So I figure picking it up on sale will work just fine.
Here's a drinking game for you...
Take a shot every time John says "game."
I don't like to try Demos and I never played a Valkyrie game before, but when I played this one 2 days ago and I really enjoy it, and as you said it has that YS games feeling
now if square can throw me some updated Vagrant Story I'd be very happy. Super glad the Valkyrie IP is not dead!
As a crazy fan of all things Valkyrie Profile, this brings a tear to my eye. So hyped to play this!
Really enjoyed the demo and looking forward to playing this one!
Johnny, have you checked Moonscars yet?
I can't wait for Star Ocean the Divine Force.
You should try Ys games, Lacrimosa of Dana is easily one of the best games of the past 10 years
They look pretty good, but I'm too focused on Tactics Ogre Reborn, maybe I'll check those out next year.
Kinda wish you would show later gameplay , world seemed empty in demo to me, does it populate more in the full game?
After seeing all the old ip that square are showing love to right now, I would really like to see a new parasite eve game. That would be amazing, 3rd birthday was so long ago, and on a handheld. I feel like a aaa budget PE game would be fantastic based on the hardware and dev tools available now
looks really great ,I might have missed it without your recommendation 。Too many new works may be underestimated after turning 30 ,because i'm lazy。
The game seems fun and to be honest anything with giant monsters usually reels me in so, I will be picking this one up.
