In another situation, you'd be right about the interaction of state-based actions and triggered abilities. However, lifelink is not a triggered ability. Lifelink is a static ability that causes you to gain life at the same time the damage is dealt. So, in Atraxa's case, you'd have survived if the lifelink was enough to bring you back up above zero.
On the other hand, Essence Sliver reads like it gives lifelink, but it's oracle text still says "Whenever a sliver deals damage, its controller gains that much life". This IS a triggered ability and, as such, would not keep you alive if you were to dip below 0. This also means that the lifegain from Essence Sliver and Syphon Sliver stack.

Thanks. I thought they used to stack but then got fixed. State based and such is confusing lol. I suppose i should research it more.
