Having recently relocated from Chicago to Milwaukee, we agree with everything in this video. Milwaukee is a little bit sleepier than Chicago, but a lot more livable.

What I loved about Chicago was the vibrancy of the downtown. There was so much energy around when I stepped out of the train station and viewed the Loop across the river. The sound and movement of downtown would continue all day. In contrast, a colleague was up from Chicago on a typical Tuesday for a meeting at my Milwaukee office on Broadway and Mason. Observing the activity on the streets, he asked if it was a holiday.
While traffic is outrageous in Chicago, if you are in close proximity to public transportation, the commute is a breeze. When I lived in LaGrange, I could walk to the train. It took 17 minutes to get downtown, where I walked to work. The same would be true for any community on any of the Metra lines.
I now live in Wauwatosa. The similarity between Wauwatosa and LaGrange is uncanny. The look and feel of the towns are the same, with the same vintage of housing stock and tree-lined streets. Both have downtowns with several shops, cafes and restaurants. Wauwatosa's "Village" is more quaint, while LaGrange has busy Mannheim Road running through it. Both towns have venerable old high schools with rich histories. For example, both have won state basketball titles. Both are inner ring western suburbs that are in close proximity to the primary east-west expressway and the primary bypass expressway. The best shopping mall is just northwest of each town. The outskirts of both have a good amount of industrial/commercial property. The first late spring after I moved to Wauwatosa, after the trees fully leafed out, I wondered why I felt so at home. I might as well still have been in LaGrange.

One of the best parts about Milwaukee is that you don't have to deal with warzone ambience at night all the time
we have some rougher parts too, but overall a smaller city makes for smaller issues
Milwaukee literally doubles Chicago for violent crime rates, so what on Earth are you even talking about?
Every city has crime, and city level is not an appropriate scale, since crime happens for so many complex reasons.
Milwaukee is not too big and not too small. It's just right and that's why I love it.
I've always thought of Milwaukee as a mini-Chicago. Milwaukee is a great smaller city.
I'm considering moving to the midwest from Seattle via Tucson for college. Milwaukee and Chicago both seem like good places to move to after college. At the very least, the midwest is more liveable that suburban PNW. For me, Chicago's advantage is public transportation and job prospects while Milwaukee is a lower cost of living and slightly lower crime. Would you say that this is accurate and what would you recommend for someone out of college?
You are correct on both, but to decide the best thing you can do is spend a few days here and check out both. They are just 90min apart. You will probably feel strongly about one or the other!

yeah, I considered living in Chicago once as a Chicago Suburbanite but I changed my mind and chose Milwaukee
1. I get why you avoid Chicago, even in the fastest growing suburbs it gets pretty bad when it comes to congestion especially during Rush Hour
2. The Real Estate in Downtown Chicago does not cut it for me causing me to look for Real Estate in Naperville, Aurora, Elgin, Joliet, Wheaton, Schaumburg, etc. and although I do believe in the fact people from those cities have the right to say they're from Chicago, many Chicagoans will get upset about it, in Milwaukee County I can find Real Estate that is way better than Downtown Chicago
3. Milwaukee is more laid back, Wisconsin in general is more laid back compared to the hustle and bustle Illinois, Milwaukee is a city that gives off a suburban vibe

And get some of those double-decker tour buses in downtown Milwaukee so when people come to the city, they could take a tour of Milwaukee

I REALLY did not care for the 'transportation' section. You spoke about the public transit in Chicago like it is something to do only if you are desperate/don't use a car/ Your statements and delivery make it seem like owning a car and driving in eay traffic is the ideal. But this is not the case for many, with people becoming more in favor of public transit in the US all the time. Not to mention traveling as a pedestrian or cyclist. MANY people prefer not having to own a car, myself included. It can be amazingly freeing to go car free!

Maybe that came out wrong, I am actually in favor of public transportation, bc it is a really great way yo solve the commute issue and you can actually do something productive with your time like read instead of navigating stop and go traffic and trying not to get frustrated. And for the same reason I am a huge proponent of working remote. I have given up a brick and mortar office, which was basically considered a must have for a brokervto receive clients. Turns out our clients prefer zoom calls just as much as I do, safes everyone the time to drive somewhere for an appointment. I think no car + public transportation + an occasional Uber is a perfect solution!
I love Milwaukee. I live in Chicago now but I like taking the train on weekends to go enjoy cheese, beer and some of Milwaukee Museums and Culture. Chicago is obviously bigger but bigger means more crimes and more problems. Milwaukee is not that safe either though.

I can tell you what Milwaukee need if I can Milwaukee near like a real big park almost like Central Park of New York so we can hold real big event Live music bike trails All type of vendors what you can buy this and that And that park should be able to stay open till 2:30 in the morning Then we need a automatic new year ball drop downtown we need to get the downtown area together like it was Back in the 70s early 80s Couple more big buildings downtown skyscrapers, and Milwaukee be on the map what you think people let’s get a vote lol😊😊
Chicago Is in a league of its own. Milwaukee is a different type pf place. Not comparable at all.

Chicago people moved to Milwaukee because they run from crime and they know it’s less violent in Milwaukee Specially the Black people and the welfare system is better in Milwaukee it’s more cheaper in Milwaukee and a little less crime i’ll pick Milwaukee over Chicago
Every city has crime. And measuring it on a city wide scale almost always becomes a discussion of race, which you just proved. Very unhealthy and kind of nasty, imo.
