I became a fan of Split Enz in the early '80s, quite possibly '79, then of course a Crowded House fan in 1986. This song Message to My Girl for me is one of the very best love songs ever written. There are few others that come anywhere close to having the sincerity, emotion and taste that Message has. Indeed, Neil Finn is one of the very best songwriters of our time. Just wish the newer generations would take notice and learn what real songwriting is.
Love this song, Neil Finn is such a fantastic songwriter.

I saw him do this song during a Crowded House show in Vancouver in...87, I think? They were playing very few Split Enz songs but what happened was, Paul and Nick had some tech issues so Neil asked the audience "any requests?" and someone shouted for this song, so he played it mostly by himself (on guitar) but by the end, Nick and Paul were both able to join back in. Gorgeous.
Beautiful. I can't wait until Monday when I see him in Birmingham, England.
