    I feel like you could use a color similar/darker to the skin tone that your using when contouring. Because brown is mainly for natural tones, and when you use brown on unnatural skin tones it makes it like dirt. Maybe try using the matching tone with brown? This is just advice :) love your stuff

    • @PoppenAtelier
      @PoppenAtelier  7 років тому +6

      +Eyeball Art thanks! I put normally first a layer or two of white or very pale natural tone pastels, then brown pastels are easier to blend and it looks good afterwards

    Helpful tips!
    Try experimenting with your art style on the doll, make them have a sassy personality, maybe sketch up a plan before hand!
    I'd use tech. From Dollightful or channels like hers for help.
    NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE HUMAN making mystical creatures is super fun as well and even if it takes longer it'll look cooler!
    Using skin tones on blue skin or green skin makes the doll look sickish, you could use Mr.SuperClear to spray on and layer with pastels ( dollightful gives many tips on this!)
    You have so much potential don't limit yourself where you're comfortable! Spread your wings as a artist and try something freaky!

      agreed. you're very talented, but i'd like to see you step out of your comfort zone more. seems like all the dolls you make have the same blue-eyed face.

    Have you ever thought about airbrushing a new skinton? When you hand paint your dolls but no offence they new skin tone looks a bit muddy with the old color poking through...

    • @PoppenAtelier
      @PoppenAtelier  6 років тому

      I honestly don't like the effect of airbrushing on dolls, it always look so fake, not much better than factory stamped faces. I use now color chart for blushing doll bodies and it all looks very smooth. this one was green and green color is more difficult to remove, but with color chart is goes bery good

    Something that may help: pointed q-tips for make help with cleaning eyes and lips, soak the head in hot water for a few minutes to make hair removal easier and gentler on the plug holes, and wear gloves to prevent the act one from ruining your manicure.

    • @PoppenAtelier
      @PoppenAtelier  7 років тому +1

      thanks! I always warm heads up with a hairdryer, it melts the glue inside and makes the rubber soft, so it goes very easy, much easier than with hot water from my experience. I use shellac for my manicure, so it can stay pretty for a couple of weeks even with all this constant paint, acetone, sealants and whatever)))

    Hey that's great and a better looking figure! How about a different doll where the head and body proportions are not "fairy tale!" For example, the new Wonder Woman movie dolls by Mattel head to body mold proportions may be more real human accurate? Tell me if you do one on a "better subject doll!!" Not that I don't dislike this one but it could be more exquisite with the correct body shape!!

    • @PoppenAtelier
      @PoppenAtelier  7 років тому +7

      and why should I keep it? even real girls with half shaved cut look ridiculous, it's just some stupid temporary trend that will pass in a year or two. and the doll with some pink fluffy stuff glued on one half of her head to imitate this trend is definitely not my style. And I think I can choose what to do with my own dolls and my own art projects. As well as you can do with your own art projects.

    Is making wigs like that less expensive than rerooting?

    • @PoppenAtelier
      @PoppenAtelier  7 років тому +1

      it takes 30-40 min to make a wig and about 3 hours to reroot, but I use the same hair, so the price of the supplies is the same but wigs are faster. But this is not what I'm thinking about when I decide to go for wig or for reroot. It depends on 2 things: the 1st one is a type of hair. Straight hair I use for reroot (and curl them afterwards) and from curly hair I usually make wigs, because if you split curly hair into hundreds of tiny strands, you will never be able to turn them into pretty locks again, it will look like some bird nest or an old sponge)))) you can check for example dolls from the episodes 6 and 9. I used exactly the same type of hair but in the ep.6 it's a reroot and in the ep. 9 - a wig. And there's also another thing: if I have a doll with ears and I decide to cut them off, I normally also go for a wig to cover up the holes

      @poldoll5683 7 років тому +3

      Hunter Fisher There is a cheaper option, I use it myself. Its called Citadel Purity Seal from Games Workshop. can also be brought on amazon. Ive always hated that MSC costs so damn much, then came across this by chance, and I love it!! Cost me £10 in the shop but about £24 online. You get a 400ml can that lasts aaaaages!! and its dry in 15mins instead of 30mins like MSC. You dont need a respirator, but dont go deliberately breathing that stuff in, it cant be good for you. Anyway, hope this helps some of the peeps out there 😊
