What you’re saying about just stepping back and thinking about things in perspective is so true. I can imagine how someone lying about being in university or graduating could get in over their head, but killing your parents? Do anything but that. It doesn’t even make sense. Own up to things. For gods sake, just run away if you feel like you can’t ever admit what you did, but don’t murder someone. It’s like the people who don’t want to get caught robbing someone so they kill them; youre gonna get caught, and it’s gonna be worse than your original crime.

You may have mentioned this already Scott, but when Chandler's girlfriend Cat stayed with him at his parents' house right after the murders, he put a lot of planning into where they slept.
He built an elaborate 'bed' for the two of them in the living room, by pushing two big sofas together. This was challenging and slow to get in and out of, requiring a big climb over the couch backs/arms. Somehow the two of them watched movies, ate snacks, had sex and slept together lying inside this artfully constructed 'fortress'. He'd never done this before and you might assume Cat thought it odd, but I guess it didn't ring any alarm bells with her.
The couple usually slept upstairs in Chandler's room, where he had a perfectly comfortable bed and widescreen TV. The purpose of the two-sofas arrangement was obvious. It was so Chandler could keep control of Cat's movements throughout the night.
He must have been shitting himself at the thought she might slip out of bed while he was snoozing, head down to the basement to get herself some ice cream from the chest freezer (as was her habit), and instead of finding 'Ben and Jerry's, find Bart and Krista's dismembered body parts. WOAH! I think she'd have lost her appetite for that 'Caramel Chew Chew' pretty quick, don't you?
I also think she'd have found herself fleeing the house, with her psychopath boyfriend and his rifle in hot pursuit. The last thing a double-killer needs is a living witness, right? Guess he may as well make it a triple-killing. Not that Norman Bates would want to kill his girlfriend, obviously. Sawing up and dumping two human bodies was the most work the lazy shitbag did his entire life - he needed another inconvenient corpse on his hands, like a hole in the head.

The surprise visit of Krista's coworker on july 2 late afternoon must have shaken him up real bad. Like in the Joel Guy jr or Amato case coworkers reacted very quickly yet in his case he managed to avoid a police welfare check. There were calls to the cops though before he reported them missing.
Then on july 7 after he returned from Cres farm (to check on remains or deposit the weapon maybe) there was this car waiting in front of the home when he returned. Turns out it was an air conditioner repairman (Bart had fixed this meeting a while ago and Chaz was oblivious to it) and at first he did not want to let him into the house. Just after the repairman left Chandler drove to the police station to report his parents missing.

TBH I think the girlfriend was the motivating factor in keeping these lies going. Like it would exactly be pleasant to own up to the lies with his parents, but they’re family and it’s not like they’d disown him. The gf on the other hand, chandler probably felt like she was way out of his league, especially every time he would reflect on how much of a loser and a failure he is. To him, killing his parents was a better outcome than losing the gf, or even worse having her think he’s a loser

One shrink knew and all he could tell the parents was that they were in for a really hard time. He wasn't kidding. He became an arsonist as a teenager caused caused massive fires and in some cases, fatal ones. He couldn't hold down a job for long so his father allowed him to work in the family business, against the mother begging him not to - she was more clued up about how destructive he was. So he ended up wrecking the family business and causing other long term employees to leave because of his violence and intimidation. He also ripped the business off and was colluding with their competitors. He ended up being caught for the arsons and got life in prison. Chaz used COVID to help with his lies. He “worked” and did “school” from home… so, if he was in his room on a headset and sitting in front of a computer that was his explanation. That’s why Snapchat locations at home so much didn’t destroy his work and school lies.

The highlight of the trial was Chandler asking for an attorney to help him with his appeal.
He's an optimistic fellow. I'll give him that.

I’ve wondered if the defense strategy was to be so bad that they could appeal the case down the road? I don’t know about the mechanics of it all - but the defense was suspiciously bad

The defense was at a great disadvantage,
their table was smaller than the prosecutor's.

Still loving your content since Watts case. Great job man, super happy for your success!
And if anyone is looking for some awesome additional content that is very unique, you gotta look up this female defense lawyer that talked all about the lack of defense and she even gives an example opening that she would have made. It's pretty phenomenal. I don't recall her exact name but it had "chick" in it, that I know.
