      When I was a teacher and a kid was violent I didn't give the parents a choice. If they refused I'd call CPS immediately and they called the police. Whoever dropped that ball should lose their job and never be allowed to work with kids again. A mandated reporter has a legal obligation to notify CPS when there is any question of abuse and/ or neglect. They suspected both.

    • @SusieQ1971
      @SusieQ1971 3 роки тому +2

      @@mjduffy618 They didn't even follow their own protocol to contact the school law enforcement officer assigned to the campus. What was explained later was Ethan claimed the drawings and writings were for a video game he was creating, and the parents said if they took him home he'd be left alone because they have to go back to work. So the child and the parents minimized the problem and convinced the admin he was just creating a new video game and there was nothing to worry about. As a mental health professional I would have erred on the side of caution and not just bought the story of him designing video games, even if the parents backed that story up. But I imagine whoever sent him back to class and didn't even check his backpack and locker, has had zero mental health or crisis experience. Do we know if it was a principal, teacher, counselor, or what?

    As a high school student I think that the talk of masks in this meeting is absurd. I understand that this meeting was supposed to talk about masks and whether we should keep them or not, but we have bigger fish to fry. One of our schools just got shot up and you are talking about masks? Are you kidding me? This is childish. All of the mask mandate talk is childish. Students do not care whether we need to wear a mask or not. We just want to go to school safely, that is all. And if that includes wearing a mask, then I would be more than willing.

      You said exactly what I was going to post. Are the students aloud to have their say at these meetings? If so you might think about speaking your mind. Was a great comment here on UA-cam tho it would have far more impact in person at the meeting. The students should have a voice that is heard. After all the Schools, teachers, faculty and school board is about what they think is best for the students. Who better than the students themselves as to what they also feel is best for themselves.

      You're too young to understand the overall significance of "masks." Masks are a symptom. The disease is far greater. Government mandates of masks with decades of past studies showing conclusively that they don't filter viral particles is not about just masking. Its to see how much push back they'll receive to this seemingly mild annoyance...and to see if any of the population is actually educated enough to resist or simply go along. It's about exerting control and starting small.

I'm old enough to understand that what someone knows or doesn't know has absolutely nothing to do with age. That would be commiting a logical fallacy. It's understood that masks don't protect 100 percent. What if they only protected 50 percent than wouldn't it seem reasonable to wear them? Why have the numbers of the spread gone down during the mandates and up without them? These are actual numbers that you yourself could collect from varies independent sources on the internet. Don't have to take anyone's word. Have you actually (not Facebook) ever read scientific backed data showing the efficacy of masks? Have you researched for yourself any CoVid related materials. Do you have any Scientific supporting links to back anything you have said? Have you researched if there has ever been a mask mandate in the US before? Look up 1918.. there was mask mandates 103 years ago, was that the start of what you think is going on now? Did you know the consensus of scientists in relative fields back the mask mandates? Are they all in on this control thing? I want to believe as many true and as few false things as possible and science has been and is our best path to truth as far as I know? What area of expertise do you have or what have you read that leads you to believe you're right and the scientific community is wrong? If you had cancer would you trust your sources with your life or than have a renewed faith in science? If you found out you were wrong would you feel sorry for spreading misinformation? If I'm wrong I most certainly would feel horrible for spreading untruths. That's why I must go with science and not what the fringe science deniers claim. Science has reliable repeatable evidence. What methods are you using? Thanks

    So you have a parent who details how she is upset that her children are being searched as they enter their school yet this tragedy could have been prevented had someone just searched the shooters backpack that day. You cannot have it both ways. Not to mention that searching students upon entering is a deterrent. Sure, if someone really wanted to get a gun into school they could. However, knowing that you will be searched upon entering could deter a student from actually bringing a weapon into school.

    I am from Oxford and teach at the school of music down the street from the high school. I could be wrong but, to my knowledge, the high school was in the process of putting in a new athletic center. The "officials" on the first few interviews said that it costs money to have higher grade security installed. If you have money for an athletic center, you have money for security. If you have money to maintain a football field, you have money for security. If you have money to maintain a pool, you have money for security. If you have money to maintain a field for track and field, you have money for security. The students CANNOT enjoy the amenities that you're trying to provide for them if they are afraid for their lives to come to school in the first place. They need to straighten out their priorities. #OxfordStrong

    For over 20 years the schools and teachers, administration have been giving parents lip service and nothing is done our children are dying by the hands of other students, it’s time to hold them accountable, let them fear a lawsuit let them fear losing everything they have worked for their entire lives and maybe then they will do something about the dangers in our schools today after all they now hold the parents responsible for their children who skip school after 10 absences they send a letter stating we will have to appear before the court if it gets to 20 and we will be fined for it, when in fact it’s the schools who are letting this happen the teachers are letting the kids walk out of class not the parents the schools are letting the kids walk out the door and leave campus not the parents so where is their accountability in it, parents drop off their child at school thinking they are indeed attending classes the school staff are the ones letting kids get away with walking out yet they are never held accountable for it, so who’s fault would it be if a child was to walk out of a classroom and then out the door off the campus and was kidnapped and murdered is it the parent who dropped their child at the front door watching the child walk in or is it the staff who let them walk out. I know who I’d blame schools need to take responsibility and held accountable for their non actions throughout all these years or nothing will ever change.

    They have nothing to say because they're all being sued. The smart thing for all of them to do would be to resign. Hopefully this will set an example for all the other schools in the country because they're all at risk. There are too many mentally ill children in public school here are not getting the help that they need and who are not being monitored by the parents. Sometimes parents don't know what to do and it's obvious that the school officials have no clue how to solve this problem.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but what after happened in your community that board meeting should have been standing room only with parents. They said there are 17 100 kids in that community and that's all the parents that showed up.... This is the problem parents don't get involved they think they can drop their kids off to school and they got a 8 hour a day babysitter. Parents are just as much wrong as the ministration.

      Also it was THE PATENTS OF THIS SHOOTER EHO CAUSED THUS! Yes the kid did the murders and I PRAY HE GETS LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE. And the patents better not get off! They better get 60 years ( 15 years each murdered child)!

      Due to covid, we don’t know if the school board capped the number of parents allowed in that school board meeting. Many “public” meetings have limited the number of people allowed to attend. So it’s not necessarily that the parents don’t care.

      Also, the public forum portion was “unscheduled” meaning the school board did not notify parents prior that they would have an opportunity to speak publicly and address the board. They do CHINS immediately when children present like this. This gets a child in front of a judge quickly and a child hospitalized. This helps get the child into the evaluation process immediately. Most parents don't know what to do when their children present with a mental health issue especially the first time. Later, a community crisis team meets to develop plans for the child and get resources in place before the child is released from the hospital. Chins means child in need of supervision.

      @@benny368_ well, as a person that is very interested in the development of children I can assure you kids need to learn and develop social clues on how to interact and engage or disengage by the help of facial (micro) expressions. which you cannot fully do with less then half the face visible. The partial facial expressions that are left visible for interpretation purpose expire to be informative correctly as the mouth is key in facial expression when interacting and learning about what is socially accepted. This plays a key role in the development of self-expression and the ability to read your environment correctly. Kids that lack interaction possibilities show signs of an asocial interaction. And we don't want that, especially for young teenagers in the midst of their social development. It's detrimental for their self esteem. Skipping that part of our development can result in an indecision between belief and disbelief. It may involve uncertainty, distrust or lack of conviction on certain facts, actions, motives, or decisions. Doubt can result in delaying or rejecting relevant action out of concern for mistakes or missed opportunities.
      I don't know this teacher/person, nor the previous one but she is absolutely correct in her statement about the masks and the development of mentally healthy individuals.
