As someone born and raised in Richmond, the city provides you any opportunity you can imagine. Things work a bit differently than they did in the 90s on an operational level, but you’d be crazy to think Richmond is a fundamentally different city nowadays. People have learned to embrace technology that didn’t exist back then, and now everything is Covert Ops in the hood. Everyone works off the phone.
The difference I can see between this place and similar estates Melbourne Australia is that here in Melbourne, our roads and footpaths appear to be much better maintained by our local governments.
I used to do concrete work in these neighborhoods for jd baker and sons concrete and we put down a rubberized playground floor and we came back from lunch to find holes dug in the rubber and at some point some kids tried to pile it up and light it on fire. Good times those were.
From 1966-1976, I lived at 1404 St. Peter Street......@14 second mark on this clip. Back then, there was no better place to be than The Gilpin Court Projects in the Jackson Ward section of Richmond. As I grew from a boy to become a young man responsible for my own life, the sectarianism and components within the systematic, intense approach to keeping us divided, became a rallying point to overcome the ills in the black community. Today, almost FIFTY YEARS LATER I am a serious Black Man who stands on the front lines of revolutionary ideas to alter our course as a force of nature that has been deprived of the true meaning of Black Unity. With that being said, just because you grew up in the projects doesn't mean you have to become a Project. Black people, ........if you have to live there, do what is necessary to survive it, get your children disciplined and educated so they can break the cycle of misery, pain and hopelessness.

Mighty Mouse was driving around Richmond hoods in some videos last week. The whole time I was watching them I couldn’t help but think, I wish this was one of Charlie’s videos because they are way better.
I am from Oakland, ca..but once got stranded in Richmond va, at the greyhound station..for about 24 hrs or so, before eventually getting to NJ...(long story)...when I was about 20 yrs old...met an OG, who I made a deal with,..I would buy him a bottle, if he would take me to buy some trees...we wandered away from the greyhound, thru various hoods, got his bottle, and ended up in jacksons ward, at what I'm pretty sure is those "pink/beige"..looking projects with the strange concrete things on the buildings...which stood out to me, having seen projects all over the country, and never seen those weird buildings in that weird color...lol...we went door to door, knocking at diff trap spots.. until we found what we needed...walked back..rolled up...sipped the md 20/20 I bought him, gave him a handful of ports...and parted ways...was In jersey 8 hrs later...cool memories
And you ain’t hit him up after that? 🤦🏾♂️
Born and raised here, I know somebody from just about everywhere in the city with the exception of gilpin. Been out there a few times and I'll admit that's about the only spot I won't hang at after dark, shit daylight too sometimes lol
It’d be cool to see rich neighborhoods
Yes
they got some nice neighborhoods in short pump
Glen Allen has some nice cribs too
Windsor Farms
drive along the James or where the UK Tutor homes are inbetween peters and Richmond i think
RVA born and raised 🤘🏻 best city ever but you’ve got to always remember where tf you are and not do anything stupid or go somewhere you shouldn’t when you shouldn’t. Mess around and get robbed and shot 🤷🏼♀️
💯yhup. Born n raised
another good video Charlie,thankyou
They all got nice clean expensive cars. LMAOOO
I don't think baby mommy's own them.
You can afford expensive shit when your living in free housing why you think they are there
One thing bout richmond folk we keep us a clean whip 😂
@@tsundokus you are assuming they belong to the people that live there. You sound like a self entitled, assumptive, stereotypical jerk. Are you jealous because you want an expensive vehicle, or do you just want to push your stereotypical narrative?
🤦🏽♂️wtf are y’all looking at I haven’t seen 1 expensive car 🤣 y’all need to get out more
Why is it that there always so many people loitering outside in these neighborhoods? Then they yell at your car! And why doesn’t someone care enough to pick up trash on their own street? Have some pride!
Richmond projects are worse but Petersburg houses in the neighborhoods look way worse than Richmond.
Because of gentrification...diff in the early 90s and before
@@stonejackballer482 yeah for sure cause roanoke va ain't get gentrified like this it's way shittier looking. I noticed norfolk getting gentrified too u got college students in a house next to a trap house.

I’m in Richmond right now. You should go through hillside
Plz don't
I used to do concrete work in these neighborhoods for jd baker and sons concrete and we put down a rubberized playground floor and we came back from lunch to find holes dug in the rubber and at some point some kids tried to pile it up and light it on fire. Good times those were.
Barn animals 😁
That first one's Gilpin! That was my first job when I first got to Richmond. And that last one's Whitcomb Court.
Virginia is for lovers , with Richmond being the exception.
Thomas More do they talk the same way in Richmond? That Baltimore sound kills me 😂
Naw Richmond folks got more of a southern twang but not deep south accent its like a mix of north/south
Plenty for lovers to do in RVA if you know the city
There are many more cities with ghettos in va lol

I went to East End Mid school, my sister went to Armstrong High today the mid school is a military academy and Armstrong is shut down. I live on Oakwood ave. across the street from the cemetery. The old house burned down and now there is an empty lot. I still love Church Hill with all its problems
Why do we live like this..give our money for rent to people who feed off our money? People who dont care that we live in less appealing neighborhoods and no yards..no privacy...no crime for our kids..not cool..breaks me and saddens my heart...we can do better...we as black people dont need..hood...to me means not a chance...I remember going to the hood n Florida with my friend...bob wire surrounded the hood along with a damn brick fort loaded with police...that's a damn jail to me..enslaved..not a place for ourselves... dammnit we gotta do better..we can do better...we must......
Yes. It’s just sad really.
It’s the legacy of segregation and thus slavery, rights are all intertwined. Just cause you have political and cultural rights doesn’t mean you’ll get economic rights, especially when the govt creates a war on drugs specifically to target minorities and hippies
Lmao
Saw the standard Mini Mart with 50 people standing outside. So this is legit.

Damn mad respect for all that driving.
@Tat Bas I see it as all that gas 😂 but even more so, although it's the same ole same ole to some, I'm sure the people who live there like to see (and have everyone that watches see) where they live and the surroundings. Also these are considered hoods and in my experience many who live there have never even left their state let alone have a car to drive to others. IDK, just my perception. Everyone has their own.
I see he didn't cross the river. You wanna see hood go over Walmsley or Hillside. Ride down JD. Better yet go back through all these neighborhoods when it's warm at night.
