I think this song is about the basic human rights. Whenever I listen this song, I feel the pain, I feel the support from India and gets Goosebumps. Thank you India, thank you A.R. Rehman for wonderful music, thank you Mohit Chauhan for amazing voice, thank you Ranbir Kapoor for the wonderful acting and thank you Imtiaz Ali for this wonderful thought.

This song gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Its a blend of the finest of India's artistic talent- A R Rahman, Ranbir Kapoor and of course Imtiaz Ali. And also the inclusion of the Tibetan struggle against the blatantly oppressive illegal annexation of our motherland Tibet by the world's biggest bully China, as a running theme in the video, makes it all the more powerful and soul stirring for me. The Tibetan national flag waving majestically in the background through the video adds to the intensity of the song and the acting. Those scenes with Tibetans flying the Tibetan flag were shot in Dharamsala, HH the Dalai Lama's home away from home and the seat of the exiled Tibetan government. If people have noticed, there are Tibetan flags and Free Tibet badges on Ranbir's coat and guitar as well! I will take this opportunity to thank Imtiaz Ali for going that extra mile to bring the Tibetan issue into the mainstream India; cinema does have the biggest audience after all. Thank you. The subtitles are so messed up! They don't really convey the real message! I think you will need to know the language for that. So much is left out in the translation.

this song is not just about tibet.....this song is about influence of power on individual preferences....we are restricted by governemnts, religion and social traditions to live life as per certain rules....most of life is decided before we are even born....this song motivates you to choose the life you want
there were a lot of political movement references, the free Tibet movement ( you could see the Tibetan flags and the monks in the video) , the khalistan movement which wants a free Punjab and also the Kashmir secession movement. though those clips caught some eyeballs and became controversial but all the movements are very mass based.
Rohan Tara well reading up on the difference between secessionist, militant and terrorist would help you avoid using generalist terms. even the government and the army has officially established the difference, may be your highness can do that too.

Its a very well written song, but sadly this is one of those examples of "lost in translation"... this can truly be enjoyed in the context of the film or if you know the language. Love this song.

In bollywood non of actors sings. They have expert singers. They have expert dancers who teach dance on the songs. Actors job is to act/perform on that songs. This song is superbly composed and music arranged by India's legendary music director A.R.Rehman. He made India proud.
The guitar solo was recorded by Orianthi, she's really awesome, she was playing with Michael Jackson in preparation for his This Is It tour. Fun fact: I was reading somewhere that Ranbir Kapoor smoked some pot to do some of the scenes in the video. Oh and some of you Indians who may not know Rage Against The Machine is, they were this rap metal band from the 90s, very politically charged. You know how in some parts of the video you see Ranbir Kapoor raising his fist up? That's what Tom Morello (guitarist from RATM) does, as an homage to Black Power.
Yeah this song is very RATM like with how he says sadda haq kinda like how zack says "and you did what they told you" but less aggressive cuz of course its for a movie soundtrack and you can't have straight up screaming in a bollywood movie song.
1 it's about rights and 2 it was shot in Dharamshala, which is also known for Tibetian monasteries. So you see Ranbir surrounded by Tibetian people. They wanted to kinda show their protest to everyone. So, they're holding their flags. I don't know if you have paid attention to this or not. There is one seen in this song where they r holding a banner which says "FREE" and the other part is blur. It was actually "FREE TIBET" which was later censored by censor board, as it was creating mess.
Currently Tibet is part of China, but they want independence from China, like a Tibet as an independent nation but China is not ready to hear these proposals. So this since this song is 'freedom of speech' not being tied up by generally agreed upon rules , they showed Tibet flags I guess.
that's the flag of Tibet @ 6:10 , so yeah Achara is right that there is political angle to it. Over 100,000 Tibetans are living on exile in India as a refugee who have fled the atrocities of Chinese government and thus demands independence of Tibet from China.
the flag which was waved by the crowd in the end of that video is the flag of Tibet. They are also demanding freedom from china. Tibet is also running their government (in exile) in India since Dalai Lama took refuge in India. That flag was blurred in the movie which was later aired in the tv later on. May be because the Chinese embassy objected it at some point. Still ... that tibetan flag also holds relevance to this song as they are struggling for their freedom from Chinese colonialism/imperialism. No offense to any of the chinese viewers here though. its an issue going around.

this song is not just about tibet.....this song is about influence of power on individual preferences....we are restricted by governemnts, religion and social traditions to live life as per certain rules....most of life is decided before we are even born....this song motivates you to choose the life you want

there were a lot of political movement references, the free Tibet movement ( you could see the Tibetan flags and the monks in the video) , the khalistan movement which wants a free Punjab and also the Kashmir secession movement. though those clips caught some eyeballs and became controversial but all the movements are very mass based.
Rohan Tara well reading up on the difference between secessionist, militant and terrorist would help you avoid using generalist terms. even the government and the army has officially established the difference, may be your highness can do that too.

Its a very well written song, but sadly this is one of those examples of "lost in translation"... this can truly be enjoyed in the context of the film or if you know the language. Love this song.

In bollywood non of actors sings. They have expert singers. They have expert dancers who teach dance on the songs. Actors job is to act/perform on that songs. This song is superbly composed and music arranged by India's legendary music director A.R.Rehman. He made India proud.

Fun fact: I was reading somewhere that Ranbir Kapoor smoked some pot to do some of the scenes in the video.
Oh and some of you Indians who may not know Rage Against The Machine is, they were this rap metal band from the 90s, very politically charged. You know how in some parts of the video you see Ranbir Kapoor raising his fist up? That's what Tom Morello (guitarist from RATM) does, as an homage to Black Power.
Yeah this song is very RATM like with how he says sadda haq kinda like how zack says "and you did what they told you" but less aggressive cuz of course its for a movie soundtrack and you can't have straight up screaming in a bollywood movie song.

1 it's about rights and 2 it was shot in Dharamshala, which is also known for Tibetian monasteries. So you see Ranbir surrounded by Tibetian people. They wanted to kinda show their protest to everyone. So, they're holding their flags. I don't know if you have paid attention to this or not. There is one seen in this song where they r holding a banner which says "FREE" and the other part is blur. It was actually "FREE TIBET" which was later censored by censor board, as it was creating mess.
There was a portion which had a board free Tibbat.. where Tibbat is blurred out...

Currently Tibet is part of China, but they want independence from China, like a Tibet as an independent nation but China is not ready to hear these proposals. So this since this song is 'freedom of speech' not being tied up by generally agreed upon rules , they showed Tibet flags I guess.

that's the flag of Tibet @ 6:10 , so yeah Achara is right that there is political angle to it. Over 100,000 Tibetans are living on exile in India as a refugee who have fled the atrocities of Chinese government and thus demands independence of Tibet from China.

there was a 'Free Tibet' banner in last shot, but the word 'Tibet' was blurred.
the flag which was waved by the crowd in the end of that video is the flag of Tibet. They are also demanding freedom from china. Tibet is also running their government (in exile) in India since Dalai Lama took refuge in India. That flag was blurred in the movie which was later aired in the tv later on. May be because the Chinese embassy objected it at some point.
Still ... that tibetan flag also holds relevance to this song as they are struggling for their freedom from Chinese colonialism/imperialism. No offense to any of the chinese viewers here though. its an issue going around.

I have listened to its songs way back in 2011 or 2012,,,but I watched the movie just a few days back in 2018....and I tell you,I loved it.
Ranbir kapoor nails everytime when he plays an intense role....i really get goosebumps many times when i watch dis song...yesss it is the voice of singer but he acts like he owns the voice himself and singing the things he is feeling inside...he deserves more respect than he is given in bollywood than othen actors
jaby u should seriously check this movie or at least please check this album by legend A.R.Rahman..I promise if u listen to the album 3 times it will become ur favorite (which is the case with almost every A.R.Rahman album)..!
