I was actually skateboarding with my friend Sean when the towers were getting hit. A kid came up to us and told us what was happening and we went into class and watched the news all day.

The 7.5 thing was real. "You can flip faster" is what everyone used to say. I always got shit for riding an 8, but I liked the control and having a bigger landing pad.
I started with a 7.63 then to a 7.75 then to a 8 and had one board that was 8.13 I think. I loved the 8.13 deathwish but the 7.75 was the only size I could land a inward heel on.
I skated alot of vert, I rocked an 8.25 for the longest time. A buddy tried to tell me the same thing. I told him if he can do a tre flip on my board I'll take his advice, he could never do it. I also wear a size 13 shoe as well.
so funny dude i remember the Muska shorty deck with the red tail was made mostly in 7.5 because of this fad and i remember we had a friend who was really good at kickflips who rode that deck and when we would ride it, it felt weird.

Skaters used to wear skinny jeans and tight ass clothes in the early 2000s. The "gangstas" wore baggy clothes. Now it's opposite. What a world we live in. 😂
@@Usoppfablesyup, the only difference was in the styling, thugs/hip hop guys wore accessories like bandanas, durags, sunglasses, chains and other stuff, their clothes were also usually cleaner and it was mostly plain or airbrushed t-shirts with gang-like designs. Skaters on the other hand preferred stuff related to rock bands, tribal designs and skulls in their clothing, their clothing was also dirtier and accessories weren't as prevalent. There's another huge difference and it's the shoes, with skaters preferring brands such as Vans and DC while the thugs were wearing Jordans, Air Forces and Cortezes. There's a claim made by someone who skated in the 90s which went along the lines of "we dressed almost exactly like the cholos, but you recognized them because their clothes looked cleaner and better prepared than ours"

I was that skater in 01. I remember after the attack going to skate a spot and this girl that was crushing on me followed us. I remember dippin out because everything felt off that day. I loved that spot. It was a parking lot with a sick 3ft ledge drop that you could practice flip tricks down it.

The 7.5 thing was real. "You can flip faster" is what everyone used to say. I always got shit for riding an 8, but I liked the control and having a bigger landing pad.

I started with a 7.63 then to a 7.75 then to a 8 and had one board that was 8.13 I think. I loved the 8.13 deathwish but the 7.75 was the only size I could land a inward heel on.
As someone who commutes on a popsickle deck style board I can concur because I was one who prefered the 7.5
I skated alot of vert, I rocked an 8.25 for the longest time. A buddy tried to tell me the same thing. I told him if he can do a tre flip on my board I'll take his advice, he could never do it. I also wear a size 13 shoe as well.
so funny dude i remember the Muska shorty deck with the red tail was made mostly in 7.5 because of this fad and i remember we had a friend who was really good at kickflips who rode that deck and when we would ride it, it felt weird.

@@Usoppfablesyup, the only difference was in the styling, thugs/hip hop guys wore accessories like bandanas, durags, sunglasses, chains and other stuff, their clothes were also usually cleaner and it was mostly plain or airbrushed t-shirts with gang-like designs. Skaters on the other hand preferred stuff related to rock bands, tribal designs and skulls in their clothing, their clothing was also dirtier and accessories weren't as prevalent. There's another huge difference and it's the shoes, with skaters preferring brands such as Vans and DC while the thugs were wearing Jordans, Air Forces and Cortezes.
There's a claim made by someone who skated in the 90s which went along the lines of "we dressed almost exactly like the cholos, but you recognized them because their clothes looked cleaner and better prepared than ours"
