I enjoyed your video. I've worked in the lighting industry in excess of 40 years and you've done a nice job of presenting the the information in an understandable manner. I suspect you must also be a photographer also to have such a grasp on the way lighting works. Artificial light can be difficult to work with in photography, where as the human eye is a remarkable instrument and is better equipped to to parse the nuances of light.
Hi, Martin. I must say, I love this video. It if very thorough and contains useful information. I have watched if a few times. I am also referencing it and linking it in my new video about installing my own layout lighting. Thanks for the great work.
Thank you Ron! I’m happy you like it and have use for it. Your stuff is great as well. I often watch your videos and learn plenty of useful tricks and techniques. Keep up the good work Ron!
It's not only the interesting information you bring to us but also the miles of smiles on your face. Fun to watch you Martin. Thank you very much for your efforts and keeping it FUN to RUN ! All the best..
Very interesting stuff. Something that also is worth considdering is the use of DMX-controlled RGB(W) fixtures. Wich are available today for very reasonable prices. It's best to use RGBW fixtures, because they have not only Red, Green and Blue to mix your colours, but also Warm white, so you can create any kind of mood that way.
I found this very illuminating. So many aspects to this I had not considered.I am working in garage, under stairs and in basement studio with poor lighting.Thankyou for another great video, and keep up the humour
Martin, great video as ever. Could you perhaps ad a diagram which depicts what you have placed where? And some pictures or short video to see what your actual set up is. TIA
Very helpful video on a subject it seems few modellers seem to properly address to show off their handiwork to maximum effect. Thanks for the background info on the LED terminology and your personal experiences. It is certainly worth while experimenting on layout lighting. Perhaps worth also mentioning trying the LED combined dimmable and adjustable angled units to optimise settings. Stephen
CrankyPants Thank you very much for the positive feedback! 👍😊 Please feel free to share links to the video, as I would think many people have use of the information in the video.
Well done summary about lights, only the RGB LED for night and transition are missing. Switching to LED is on my todo list. About photo, I use one or more strobes, as they are a lot more configurable than any layout light (like change the strength and direction of the shadows).
Thank you for breaking down an important subject for model railroaders and anyone doing photo or video work. So would you recommend a soft light tube by the middle or back of the layout and a more directed led strip or spots at the front of the layout?
Thanks to explain illumination.. and thank you very much for your time and efforts to share your knowledge and experiences with us. For me.. a view drawings could be helpful on this subject.. especial when talking about different lights and angels so the shadows are right. Could you let us know what for equipment you use for the illumination of your layout. It seems they are also used in building sites or construction area where they needs lots of lighting. Thanks and greetings from the Netherlands!!

Great description of a very mysterious and complicated topic for a modeler and layperson. It's all based on the physics of light. Thanks!
Thank you.
That was AWESOME! You were very complete in your explanations. Thank You!
A very informative video. I have learnt a lot and will be shielding my LED bulbs [same size as the old tungsten ones] as you suggest.

Thank you for the feedback! I´ll consider it and see if I can launch a second video on this topic. Again thank you!
typ av ljus kanske också är bra att tänka på för strålkastare på/i tågen. vad kan vara lämpligt till loken i olika epoker och inuti vagnarna?
Daylight is 5600K, fluorescent 3800K, bulbs 2800-3000K. Usually you find the value in your camera settings
Poderia fazer este tutorial em espanhol!?
