    Awesome! I've done some musical theatre myself as an actor/singer/performer but even though I've played drums for 35 years, I've never played drums in a theatre show. This would be the kind of show I'd like to play for as it's primarily song-based and I'm not counting off 45 bars of rest to hit a triangle. I can read drum music but I'm not great at it. I've been asked to play shows but having experience as a theatre performer, I know how much time needs to be devoted to each show and that's time that I'd have to take off money-paying gigs with my band.

    Saisfying to watch dynamic breaks to allow dialogue. Perfect rock drumming to serve the song.

    Great job Kai. Buried the click nicely

      Thanks Perry! There always seems to be the "human element" playing with the click and some rushing here and there. By the way I was the only one of the band who had the click going all the time.

      @@KaitsuDrums Yes, I love playing with a click. It kind of frees you in a way plus you learn a lot about your playing and internal clock. By the way, here's a couple of things I've been doing here in Boston, SF, and NY . ua-cam.com/play/PL4F5E9F21EAAE1E57.html

    What a nice sounding Yamaha kit, most of what I heard in concerts sounded quite flat.
    Also the bass guy is fonky as heck!

    Hey, awesome job Kai! And the rest of the band from what I could hear. Really like the bass in particular. I have a question, what kind of transcription do you have there? Drum part only transcription, how closely were you following it? And do you prefer always using a click track during your live shows? Anyway, keep up the good work, you are the type of drummer I aspire to become. Greets from Serbia!

    • @KaitsuDrums
      @KaitsuDrums  5 років тому +2

      Thanks Aleksandar!! I had the Mamma Mia drum charts which are basically transcriptions of the original drum parts. I already had played the show about 250 times so I added some of my own little stuff. The click thing varies from gig to gig, I like to play with click but most of the cover gigs are without click, just looking the starting tempo from the metronome. Greetings from Finland!

  • @PotPoTD

    Nice playing! Really like how all of you were somehow nodding to the beat. Quick question though, was the metronome just for your tempo reference or does the band use a click track with pre-recorded instruments?
    Also, nice touch at the end where all music rest lights shut off at the last beat. Were the musicians on stage that's why it was quite necessary to turn it off so as to have a complete blackout?

    • @KaitsuDrums
      @KaitsuDrums  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks Dean! On this version of Mamma Mia I was the only one with the click track but when I had rest bars then other guys would have a click. There were no count-offs, our leader just nodded one quarter note and then I hit the pad which started backing tracks...which controlled also some of the lights on big numbers...quite stressful. Also, this was the last song of the first half and the whole stage had a blackout including the band. We were playing at the side of the stage.

    • @PotPoTD
      @PotPoTD 4 роки тому

      @@KaitsuDrums Awesome! I imagine how stressful it could be to also trigger light effects.
      I know particularly that Mamma Mia has lots of keyboards and they could take up a huge amount of space. Was it because of the limited band space that's why the production opted to inlcude backing click tracks? And how much of the music are in those tracks?
      Awesome job, you and the band!!

    • @KaitsuDrums
      @KaitsuDrums  4 роки тому +1

      @@PotPoTD I didn't trigger light effects but they were programmed to the same midi code that the backing tracks. Mamma Mia has 4 keyboard parts but we had 2 keyboard players...so some of the keys, effects and some extra backing vocals were on those backing tracks. Thanks!
