  • One year ago, at CBD COP15, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF, in short) was adopted, which is a huge step towards the vision it puts forward to “live in harmony with Nature“. One of the GBF’s 23 targets, is the 30x30 target (#target3) for protecting 30% of lands and oceans worldwide by 2030, which is paramount for addressing the biodiversity & climate crisis we all face. And when it comes to conservation, there is a lot we can learn from Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities who often live in areas of high biodiversity on a sustainable basis. While Indigenous Peoples only make up 5% of the world’s population, they are stewards of 80% of the remaining biodiversity in our Planet. Here [ODER: BELOW IS A VIDEO WITH are three ingredients towards a place- and rights-based conservation approach for consideration when implementing the GBF, particularly its target 3.
