What a dream!!! Colorado has priced the front range skiier right out... very expensive.
Great to hear about this for the future!! Glad you had fun!

As a European I think the ski passes has become crazy expensive.

Sounds like such a fun trip and I loved watching the videos! Lift tickets at a standard, nice ski resort in season in the US could easily get up to $125 / day. And renting gear is around $80/day!

We're doing this trip in January 2025. Taking wife to Europe for her first time, and I get to ski La Plagne again, was there in 1984.

Hi! Keep in mind that the French Alps are known to be very affordable, try comparing prices also with Italian Alps or Austrian Alps, where the prices were always a bit higher to begin with and went up even more in the last year (electricity costs etc.). Don't make comparisons with Swiss Alps 😃💰

Amazing! Your perception of prices is accurate for Canada compared to Europe (To ski Lake Louise is $130 cdn/day). I would expect to pay triple here to what you paid there. Love to ski but wish it was more affordable for everyone. Hope you make it a regular trip.

Please let us know which website you used to book the accommodation and maybe a also a link to your chalet? Thanks

During the 80's our government helped the industry so most people could enjoy skiing, not only during Winter but all year long thanks to some very high resorts the Alps can offer (that's unfortunately disappearing now with global warming). Our resorts are mostly made of ugly blocks of concrete, but they are huge, and very often empty (so there are a lot of discounts if you go there out of main student holidays). Also it takes very fast and reliable systems so hundreds of people can go up hills the same day without having to wait a lot. Not only is it way cheaper to ski in France than in USA, but it is also way more efficient. American lifts are more organized though, in France it can be way more chaotic because most of times it doesn't have to be much organized.
It can get even cheaper if, like many people here, you get a less fancy place, maybe a bit more far from the slopes, or even a camper, if you ski at least 3 or 4 weeks and get a year pass some months before Winter, if you buy your food somewhere else than in resort groceries... if you buy your gear (including skis/snowboards) during winter and spring sales... and if you go there during "low season" when many resorts are making huge discount on rooms so you may spend your money staying there.

WOW that is so crazy ! I can’t imagine doing a family vacation at that price 😶 I really wonder what the reason for the price difference is

A weeks pass for skiing in Whistler, BC is $1,224 , 1 day/ 229, so yes you had a fantastic deal and it doesn't have 80 runs 😀

OMG this shocks me ! I just find that super unaffordable… I wonder why there is such a price difference… thanks for sharing ! 😆

Just for accuracy's sake - Whistler Blackcomb has over 200 runs...

@@karenjakobsen668 I tend to think of them as two separate entities, even though the are connected. The price is still prohibitive for the average person

I thought the point of skiing was that it was for well off posh people who dont want to mix with poor and lets be honest people who didn't go to a decent public school and who arn't very interesting, I mean if you're worried about how much anything costs why would you even think of going skiing ... thats why America has ski resorts isn't it, so they can go there and not be awful in France.

The ski ticket for just ONE day in the Colorado ski resorts (Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen, Vail, etc.) is more than US$200.

O.M.G. that is crazy in my opinion ! I feel like it’s so unfortunate because it makes skiing impossible / unaffordable for many people

But but... minor detail... Canadians make more money for the same career than the French.

Tho, you have to take into account that a significant part of the salary in France is in the form of social welfare cotisations (retirement, healthcare, unemployment, etc..). So to compare the two, you need to speak in terms of gross median salary.
