To add on aiming. Try to hold the blowgun the same way every time and put your good hand on the mouthpiece and the other, as far on the blowgun as it feels comfortable, but not close to the mouthpiece. Try to always put that hand near the center of the blowguns length. Also, the most important, try to hold the gun still, don't push it when you blow, try to keep it as stable as you can, without the gun moving at all, when you blow. I avoid to put the 2nd hand that holds the middle part, around the gun, I keep it under the blowgun , so that I have a full image of the length of the gun, pointed to the target. Hope these tips help.

I don’t see two barrels when I look down it. Only had this one for a day, but shot it the based and just used pure instincts and practiced back them. Either way, I’ve progressed nicely today. The stun darts nailed where the couple of birds were but they moved too quickly before impact.

I grip my barrel much further down. Then I try to lock my elbow in roughly the same near 90 degree position each time. It really helps to reduce the sway and give me a feeling of stability. Especially if I want to take a knee and use that as an extra stabilization platform. Also use different types of darts. The stun darts are great for schoo'ing something away. But the broadheads just fly with far more intent. The bamboo ones take skill but will increase your chances of a kill significantly, though it'll be quite messy.

I have that same blowgun. On the day I got it I practiced with some bamboo darts then shot a squirrel with a mini broadhead behind the ear on the first shot I ever took at an animal. Lucky lucky lucky. I noticed you have the darts in the quiver every other slot. Good. I found that if you put one in every slot it will deform the cones and they won't shoot straight. Nice video.

The best tip for blowpipe marksmanship is imo to forgot all you know about gun/bow/whatever aiming and just practice. Soon you'll find that aiming and hitting the target with a blowgun is much simplier than with revolver or rifle. Sights, lasers, handles etc are just dont needed. The blowgun if you hold it properly is aiming very exactly where you are looking with your eyes. Both eyes! Look at the center of your target, blow, hit.

To not be able to humanely dispatch a larger animal is only because of the shooter not the method.
The method has been proven to take down animals as fast or faster than a bullet.
Reason number 1 is the fact that a bullet once it penetrates it does not keep cutting. So it only damages one place. A blowgun or a spear is more humane on average to a bullet because it cuts and cuts the vital organs.
Therefore you have a misconception about the method and so do many many others. Why? Because like you said it hasn't been done much so the know how is not there. People think a little tiny piece of metal won't kill a large animal.
Btw when you shoot an animal and they fall. They are not dead. They are dead usually a few seconds or a minute after you shoot them. Therefore also a misconception in terms of bullets and their affectiveness.

@@WooglesOutdoors I've been doing this for a while so I've got it, but trying to figure out exactly how to blow properly was the hardest part, aiming came second and was much easier. So for beginners I think, IMO, that is important. Yes, this is a lot of fun! I bought a package of 50 bamboo skewers at the dollar store (they are slightly longer), and with just a very tiny piece of scotch tape around the shaft the orange cones fit nice and snug. I resharpen the points them with a nail file from, yes, the dollar store.

huh ... the darts kill rabbits, squirrels, frogs, snakes, and other small critters without poison. Good thing, too, since hunting with poisoned darts (and arrows) is banned everywhere in North America. Critters like chucks and fox can be turned off by a well placed dart with a larger than mini sharp broadhead dart.
(I believe Tim Wells uses highly toxic darts when he takes black bear, deer, and other large game with a needle dart (no broadhead) with a body shot. I notice his big game kills are all on private Texas Exotic Game Ranches. State regulations concerning the use of poisoned darts/arrows MAY NOT apply on those properties.)
Your first statement concerning the areas where the use of the blowgun is fairly accurate. About the only areas the blowgun WASN'T used in historical and prehistorical times is parts of Africa (south and east of Egypt, basically. The ancient Egyptians and their neighbors as far north as northern Asia did have blowguns.) The Aboriginies of Australia and nearby islands, and the Inuit of Alaska didn't have them. Pretty much everywhere on earth but those three locations (and Antarctica which was 100% uninhabited by humans) had the blowgun from "caveman" days to modern times.
The blowgun is a wee bit more ancient than the bow and arrow.
Unlike the bow and sling, there is no evidence the blowgun was ever a weapon of war, despite what Hollywood might claim. (and how often is Hollywood interested in historical accuracy?!?
I saw a movie about the Battle of The Alamo a "few" years ago.
Both sides were using bolt action repeating rifles. How they had rifles in 1836 that wouldn't be invented/developed until c.1891, I have no idea. In 1836 the percussion cap was the latest and greatest firearm technology. Both sides were equipped mainly with flintlock muzzleloaders. The Alamo defenders had various calibers ranging from a .36 caliber squirrel rifle to a .53~.56 caliber rifle. Santa Anna's forces may have been more standardized with a .53~.56 caliber rifle or .69 caliber smooth bore musket.
Couldn't have Mexican Calvary attacking on horseback and using a rifle, if the were using muzzleloaders instead of sabers in the movie. I suppose the Hollywood writers and directors thought calvary attacking with rifles blazing was more "exciting" than attacking with sabers ...
Self contained metallic cartridges wouldn't be developed until 1859, with the introduction of the .22 short rimfire.
The famous Henry lever action rifle that was used in the (un)Civil war starting in 1860 (used but was never a government issued arm. Commanders could and did buy arms on the private/civilian market for their troops. Those troops that wanted a Henry gave the money to the commander, who then placed the order for the rile with the factory. There were enough Henry rifles in use during the war that the Union Government did issue ammunition for them to the troops that had bought one.
To say the quartermaster's job was "easy", is a considerable stretch of imagination. Any one company of troops could require over 70 different types of ammo. A single platoon could require 0ver 40. (not to mention the different cannon found in any given artillery company, ranging from 5 pounders to 24 pounders ...
Those issued a .58 caliber rifle or musket required a different mini-ball or round ball than those issued a .54; .577; and .69 caliber.
The .36; .44; and .45 caliber side arms each needed a different size ball. If they used a conical bullet instead of a round ball, those with a .44 caliber Colt revolver could not use a .44 caliber conical intended for a Remington revolver (or any of the several other brands, same for the .36 caliber "Navy" revolvers that were popular with t Infantry, Artillery, and Calvary troops. Both .44/.45 and .36 caliber side arms were found in every platoon. Some of the troops and officers also had a S&W #1 revolver in .22 short and later the S&W #2 and #3 break top .36 and .38 S&W revolvers for a backup gun. The government supplied ammo for those, as well) because the chamber diameters of the cylinder were not the same. The muzzleloading revolvers all used an over diameter projectile. The internal barrel bore diameter (land to land) was the same for each caliber, regardless of manufacturer.
