      It's a tight joint, but it's structurally weak. You wouldn't want to subject it to any serious loading, but it's still fine as a decorative piece.

    I'm a Japanese carpenter.
    This type of processing is not done in Japan because it cannot withstand earthquakes.
    Don't be fooled by fake videos like this.

      While I do agree this is not a structurally sound joint, some woodworking pieces are simply decorative, rather than structural. I personally enjoy just watching him work and watching his technique. Which joinery he features for any given video is less important.
