The studio version of "don't be happy" actually has a whole verse by bumkey but that got left out of the video to make room for the group intro, which had gotten people curious. You can tell they were still somewhat unsure of the direction they were going with the group. They were definitely pushing wheein as 'main dancer' in both of these mvs, while ensuring performance line both got to show off their moves here in the intro. They obviously also changed their minds on the romanization of hwasa's name (the first letter of hwasa and wheein both are the same letter, so it is a bit odd they went with different spellings for them) Oh, and so glad you saw their initial sketchbook with bumkey. I seriously go back to watch the five do "all of me" together quite frequently And with "peppermint chocolate", you can tell they were still trying to find byul's voice, too, getting her to rap in a higher pitch when she did rap there, instead of just mouthing wheesung's parts. I'm so glad they dropped that quickly and let her use her natural tone... solving an issue i have with so many agencies before it even really happened Oh...and if you want to see even earlier predebut work from everyone but solar (including who would have been their fifth member), check out the livestage for "ice" by the trio phantom. No need to react unless you want to but it's definitely an experience... The girls were also contestants in one of phantom's mvs, if i recall, showing a (staged) music competition they were involved in, sort of as a 'this is how we formed' type thing

I really like that the vibe of mamamoo title tracks have been experimental these last years because that draws attention from new people that get interested in them. If they kept that jazzy style, I don't think they would have gotten as famous as now unfortunately, so it's great they do more mainstream title tracks and then they do their jazzy funky rnb stuff in their albums and also other genres

Even though these early songs were good , people in Korea weren't ready for these type of songs at that time and from them. They weren't the cutesy girl group, that's why it took a lot of work from these girls to prove to the nay sayers that they belong in this industry. These girls needed to change the way girl groups were looked at. You guys already know how much they had to go through to get here, It also paved the way for others to change their style a little bit. Just look at the groups that are coming out. I have been following them since 2015, and I am proud of them and how they changed over the years to become the woman they are and learned how to survive to stay here.

@@kalaksed esna trained in america, jazz I was told, came to RBW and left a couple years later. Not sure of the time line.
