Glad to hear a kindred spirit. I've been writing down lyric ideas that come into my head for years, humming tunes into my phone even annoying people when I get a beat idea. Now I'm retired it's time to dust them off and try to write songs from them . I'm only one down and dusted. It was a pleasure watching your workshop and hearing the final song. It's funny, when he talks about "that one magic line" that everybody remembers. It reminds me of that song Over My Head by The Fray, nobody knows that song by it's name, everybody calls it the Cable Car song, because everybody remembers that one line "you'll find another friend that you'll discard, as you lose the argument in a cable car". The record company even had to go back and re-title the song on the album and put (cable car) in parentheses after the song title so everybody would know that's the song.

Songwriting is perpetual motion...
Hi there! When I play my songs to musician friends, I get the response "awesome mate!" "good job!" "great song!"
When I post my songs on the internet, I get responses like "this sucks".
Is there any objective way to get my material professionally evaluated by objective music industry people?
Maybe something like Taxi, but only the evaluation part without applying to any slots.
Ideas anyone? (my channel has only covers, so don't bother)
Excellent observation. Hope you find the answer/s you are looking for.
Join some fb groups, or local songwriter groups, and or open mics, and talk to people who are doing what you're doing.
If you hear someone play a song and you think it's good, talk to them. And build a relationship that yall can throw ideas back and forth.

You know, it's sad that guy's like me who are not in Nashville. Could smash every songwriter in Nashville with REAL songs. These guys are caught up in Nashvegas, since they are there physically, they get the Crown. Not all of us with REAL stories, are able to be in Nashville.
What you say may be true but he paid the price and rolled the dice to chase his dream like me i left Alaska to move to Nashville just good common sense to be in the epicenter of it all thats what you should do but your attitude is bad and your not smart enough to get it !
