I recall back in the 1950's, they took you on a tour in groups. They would turn the lights out and you could not see your hand 2" in front of your face. Great memories.....
same, went here with my dad and brothers 10 years ago and wouldn't trade anything for those memories. at the end of the tour they have a staging area where you can watch the bats flood out of the cavern
I have been to Carlsbad Caverns around 1975 when I was a kid with my parents but never finished exploring all of it. It is a fascinating place to visit.
Just went this weekend and my expectations were exceeded. I was windblown. Breathtaking. Very recommended. If your in the area working the oilfields please take some time to visit this place. Take the full experience 2 1/2 hour walk. The scenery is so beautiful your brains forgets that your walking so long. It's very fresh inside. 15$ adults kids are free.
Just read your comment. Actually, Carlsbad Caverns is exactly where they filmed the (1959 ) 20th Century-Fox production of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" with James Mason and Pat Boone.
@@kushpaladin Is that supposed to make it safer, look what happened to that group of kids that got stuck in a cave and they had a troop leader! I am not good in situations like that either.
It's still great but its changed so much..I feel like the water is drying up all the ponds are gone ..you dont hear the water dripping any more...I guess time changes everything...enjoy them while you can
My brother and I are thinking about going to Carlsbad Caverns Feb 11th thru 14th, 2019. We are worried that because of the previous government shutdown it is a bad time to visit the caverns. We also would like to go when it is not too busy. Does anyone have any comment on that?
FYI don't eat a big lunch before you go inside the caves, because the experience is so overwhelming it will twist your stomach and next thing you know you'll step away from the group and dropping a loaf in a spot you can't get out of and end up having to get rescued like me. P. S.. no lie no tp no shirt lol
Well then you all would like to know , Carlsbad caverns are now being used to store NUCLEAR WASTE. Thanks money grubbing government. Always first in line to sell storage space to these (lobbyists) companies. In OWER NATURAL BEAUTIES. Please if you truly LOVE CARLSBAD , call a complaint to your Rep, your Sen, and ask the hard questions. For everyone's and everything's sake. Thank you.
The boy's story cannot be true - the rich fertilizer was his proof in a area needing fertilizer for every agricultural need. If he, now not a boy, sold the material to buy a loader, he need not have to frove a gold mine for fertilizer. He would have filed a mineral claim and be done with it. The State would have to buy it from him before any State Park could be had decades later. But it's a nice story. "Home made Ladder" in 1890? Get real.
I've traveled all my life. I visited the caverns for the first time the other day. I highly recommend it. Its really something.
Thanks for sharing! It's amazing how there's always something new to see when you travel. This national park is something special.

The pacing of the editing, the music, the narration here -- straight out of the 1950s indeed.

I've been so many times and I never get tired of it
Went there back in the late 70's or maybe early 80's. I've always wanted to go back though. Would love to see them again!

I remember I visited the caverns with my dad when I was little, and we were at the food area; I was eatting celery and I started choking on it lol
I most lee died
