I remember seeing this in the theaters with some vets around the audience.. this was a hard watch .. I can’t even imagine how hard it was for them .. takes a lot for me to shed tears and this is just one of those moments
Marcus said he wanted the guy that played him to be an "unknown" actor so that the audience wouldn't be able to tell who was going to live. The extraction was also done at night and not during the day, and by the time the villagers found him he had broken his back and bit his tongue in half among with countless other injuries. Everything that could have gone wrong in this situation, went wrong. Mike Murphy, Axe, and Danny embodied everything that a SEAL was and is and they fought until their last breath. Mike Muprhy was also the first member in the U.S. Navy to receive the medal of honor since the Vietnam War.
35:57 When the production crew for the movie interviewed Axe’s father, he pulled out the medical autopsy report given to him by the military and began listing off his sons wounds, crying as he read the list. The biggest request by his dad was that they do everything they can to show how hard Axe fought before giving his life
I watch this movie every Veterans’ Day. It’s one of the best depictions a civilian such as myself who’s never been a part of war can see and gain a deeper appreciation for what these guys do for our country. ❤️
The person who dumped the coffee on the table and said clean all this up at the beginning is the real Marcus Luttrel, he was on the set for every part of the movie to make sure they got it correct.
In the falling down cliff scene, they actually just padded up and full sent it down a little segment of hill. Yes it was controlled, but the impacts are real with padding

Thank you for taking the time for this movie. I can’t tell you how much it means to me that we acknowledge the sacrifices that the men and women of our Armed Forces make. I saw this film when it came out in 2013 and just like with the film We were Soldiers it’s not an easy watch by any stretch. Again thank you guys for giving it the time it deserves and pushing through all the way to the end to the photos.
Wanted to drop a like and a comment to boost this one. I had a really hard time getting through this one when I first watched, so I could make it through this whole reaction. I did catch the end and wanted to thank you for making sure that all of the information about these men that was shown at the end made it to your cut here.
A Marine buddy and I went to see this in the theater. When they showed the guys at the end we just felt like we needed to stand in their memory. I believe the entire theater then stood and no one left and you could hear a pin drop. No one said a word walking out. When you see this movie and the reaction it created from that crowd you truely respect the sacrifices made. Till Valhalla. Rest easy.
There are many distortions and fabrications in this movie, importantly the number of the opposition; and Luttrell no longer communicates with the Afghani who saved him. A friend of mine who has operated in that valley says that any unit of less than company strength was simply a target.
Just tagging onto this to say that a channel called “Burn these Books” recently made a video about how full of lies this movie is. I highly recommend checking it out.
Do you realize the disparity of your comment? Which is it? There weren’t as many fighters as reported? Or any group less than company strength was a target?” All of the comments about the size of the enemy force stems from the Taliban released video of the engagement. 1) the Tali would never lie to make Americans look bad, would they? 2) just because the group on video only has about 8 guys, does that mean those were the only 8guys on that mountain? Despite hearing a gunfight still occurring off in the distance?
@@mikeb4595 true, just because the video only shows 8 enemy combatants doesn't mean that thats all there was. But under the assumption that there was only like 8 enemy, if they had a belt fed weapon, rpgs/grenades/ and higher ground, they could definitely suppress and flank a fireteam with only m4s and dmr's. Its the account from one of the rangers that was on the team that found luttrell that said he had basically his full loudout still when they found him that makes me doubt the events the most.. If the firefight was against as many enemies as he said there were he would've expended way more rounds. The whole OP stank whether you believe luttrell or not. From the beginning when the Seals took the mission from Marines all the way to them landing too close to village. Good war flick for sure, but there are plenty of other GWOT movies that are just as good but less controversial in my humble opinion. All that being said, still all the respect to the KIA from Red Wings.
Craziest part about this movie is that Luttrell made pretty much the entire thing up! The dude was rescued with every magazine he took on the mission still completely full. Oh and then when the guy that stuck out his neck to save Luttrell started expressing his discomfort with this fabricated story, Luttrell tried to shut him up with threats of deportation back to Afghanistan where he would almost assuredly be a target for the Taliban.
Plus their actions and planning were negligent. They basically had no idea what they were getting themselves into and overestimated their capabilities. It was a failed operation from the start.
@@willhughes4228 I saw it on a podcast with a bunch a group of retired seals. They seemed to have good info on what went down. I wasn't there so who knows but Marcus said live he gave up and was a coward and it's the only reason he survived.

The guy in the glasses and the beanie at the beginning. He said "clean all of this up". He IS the real Marcus Latrell that went thru all of this. Watch him telling what he went thru. It's GRAPHIC!
It's called Lone Survivor. You know at the beginning that it doesn't go well. But they want suspense because Mark Walberg's character is flatlining. That way you might think someone else lives through it. It maintains suspense, and the director knew it would be crucial to do that to keep the story impactful. But Luttrell (Mark) is the only one who gets out alive, and he never flatlined.
still can't help but cringe whenever the 'docs' use 'the paddles' to reverse asystole....that machine STOPS your heart, not start it, so your heart will restart spontaneously...it does nothing for a 'flat-line'....still a great tense moment, tho
@@coconutshrimp707 You seem overly negative. He was heavily injured, and he was vetted for a Medal of Honor. He wisely collected ammo to use against his aggressors, which in no way indicates cowardice. He was on that mountain as a SEAL, and underwent the same trauma his fellow brothers in arms did, only he managed to live. To draw a conclusion that he must be a coward simply because he lived is evidence that you are wildly biased. Probably even jealous.
@Wuichii493 think you need to do some research man. Lutrell died twice. Once in the helicopter on the way back, where they brought him back via cpr. And once when he got to the field hospital in J-bad... idk where you're getting your "facts" from. But it seems you are misinformed.

Michael Murphy graduated from the same high school I did. I’m 31 now but I still remember the first time I walked into the front lobby of my high school and seeing a memorial to him front and center. At the time I had no idea who he was until well into adulthood. Then this movie came out and it all made sense.
that little boy who played Gulab's Young Son is Rohan Chand, he also played Mowgli in Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and played the kid at the bazaar in Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle
Ben Foster's death was haunting for me. Him against the tree struggling to breathe and then the final shot... Gets me every time. And the end where they show the pics of the real people.. not ashamed to admit I cry seeing that .
Really good war movie, but the real-life inaccuracies are hard to overlook. The size of the attacking force was hugely exaggerated, and they were likely compromised during the heli insert, not because they spared the goat herders. In 2016, Muhammad Gulab, the Afghan who saved Luttrell, publicly called him out for breaking promises and misrepresenting key events in both the book and film.
I didn't know much about the real incident but being compromised during insertion makes a lot more sense than the SEAL commander not dealing well with the captured SEALS.
It's not the first time those " heroes" get called out for their BS , the guy who wrote American sniper got called out too for straight up lying about the whole thing , those US military funded propaganda movies just suck like that sometimes.

Still, it's very good. Great reaction as always, your enthusiasm and passion really show.
Marcus Luttrell IS the "Lone Survivor" & co-wrote the book. He was also the advisor on the set & appears in the 1st scene of the movie around the picnic table. He is wearing the black knit cap & dark glasses. He spills the coffee & tells the rookie to clean the mess up. The photos at the end are of Marcus & his team & their families along with the men who died trying to rescue them & the Afghan who saved him. The changes in the movie obviously didn't bother Marcus so I sure as Hell am not going to point them out. Marcus's twin brother was also a Navy Seal & is serving in Congress from Texas. Great reaction guys, love the channel. May I recommend you guys watch The First Medal of Honor ever Recorded? It's the video from a predator drone recording the actions of Medal of Honor Recipient, USAF Combat Controller John A. Chapman and his last stand at Takur Ghar, Afghanistan.
The dance Shane Patton did, was taken from the movie - NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE (2004). If you guys haven’t reacted to that movie, you should move it to the front of the list. You will never see or react to a more quirky movie than NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE.
That's the problem with America when it comes to war , you don't go to a foreign country to fight people who were born and raised there, and didn't even bother to learn the minimum of the language that guarantees their safety, cause if they did , they would've understood what this old man told them when they cut him loose which was " I swear you all will be dead by dawn " .
Well in all honesty, this was way early in the war. Before the pull out. We did far better in dealing with Taliban than early. Which Is how war goes. There's mistakes at the beginning, you learn snd do better at the end.
The end of this movie makes me tear up every single time. Just seeing the pictures of the fallen with their newborn kids or wedding videos, if you dont get emotional watching that, you dont have a soul. To all our fallen soldiers all I can say is, Til Valhalla Brother.
Former USMC Officer candidate here. Marine OCS actually shows a few scenes from this film in regards to the mission briefing, to explain the mission’s intent, objective, and potential risks, to the scene where the choice was made to release the captives. No particular “right” or “moral” choice emphasized in that lesson, but more so taking control of a situation falling out of it. Committing to a decision that could go any number of ways, and moving the team towards the best outcome after the choice is made as best you can. There’s times where a clear answer isn’t present and that scene is shown in class to candidates for officers as an example to not remain stagnant in a given situation. Stationary marines are often dead marines, problems require movement TOWARDS action, lest the problems remain what they are. 6x3 in the first minute of the film, is a test of rational forward thinking under high bodily stress in the moment where it matters most. This film did a lot of things right, but I could be biased, a Peter Berg fan since Friday Night Lights lol
They move so fast because they know and have grown up around the terrain. The same way that natives to the rainforest can basically just sprint through it while we would be stumbling around.
My sociology teacher in high school was a former special operator. He would teach us self-defense classes after school. It was really fun when he taught our swimming class lol...he did let us have Fridays off and have free swim so we could mess around.
I actually live in the same town as Marcus and his twin brother. Also, the man and the family that sheltered Marcus in the village, they were given amnesty in the US to protect them from retribution.
Lots of ocntroversy ove rthis movie as it is quite likely it did not go down at all the way this movie portrays. You can find the real life footage they filmed while chasing them downa nd the firefight and the aftermath form those involved. Most of this is not true the way it went down.
It is indeed a ccntroversy and that rabbit hole is a deep one. Lots of Marines and other service members came forward who were part of Operation Redwing said that his book thus the movie is BS. In my opinion that doesn't changes the fact that this is as outstanding movie.
@@neutchain7838 As far as I understand it, he was rescued by Rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment. What would the Marines have known to be able to contradict his story?
@@Christiand2821 As far as I know the whole operation was planned and ran by the USMC ( 2nd battalion 3rd regiment ) The Rangers brought back Luttrell to a marine outpost and the marines were tasked to comb the mountain and recover the bodies of the fallen US personnel. According to a marine colonel they've found no enemy bodies. The Afghan guy who "rescued" him also said that he talked to the people in the village the goat herders were from and they said that there were only about 8-10 militia in their village. They heard the helos inserting the SEALs the night before and in the morning shortly after the goat herders hiked up the mountain to see if they could find them. Once they released the herders they were basically right up on them. This guy also said that from his village he heard the firefight but it was over very quickly with very few shots fired. This was reinforced by the fact that Luttrell had 11 full mags with him. There is more than this ( some marines on scene, a military journalist doing research on the Korengal, etc.. ) It's been a while since I've been down this rabbit hole but there are quite a few articles around look them up, they go into great detail and actually name their sources.
Good movie but completely unrealistic. Ahmad Shah had 6 men, and Marcus Luttrell was found with 11 completely full magazines, he didnt fire a single shot. Also, Axe was apparently found 10 days after the battle, he had been dead for 4-6 days so survived the battle for days just bleeding out on his own after his medic ran away.
Amazing that a lot of what really happened is coming to light and people just refuse to believe it. The goat herders really didn’t have anything to do with them being discovered. Evidently Ahmad’s men were already tracking them and watched the whole goat herder interaction.
@mattb8961 Yup because God forbid we criticise these brave men the reality is if Navy Seal has a book deal and a movie their definitely full of shit Chris Kyle is the biggest one that comes to mind exaggerated everything he did, was a pathological lier and a racist.
As a retired Electronic technician on offshore drilling rigs I want to say thank you again for showing it, and Hollywood only took three minor liberties and they really didn't have anything to do with the disaster. For instance Mike Williams didn't really get fossil for his daughter and he wasn't on FaceTime with his wife when the engines revved up

@@ethandaniel8123 He didn’t fake, but this movie is an exaggeration, there are proofs that there was only 8 attackers aprox and no one died, also they weren’t Taliban, it was a small unit commanded by AHMAD SHAH DARA-I-NUR, who wasn’t a Taliban leader at that time, he was aspiring it. Luttrell was found with almost full mags, and wasn’t seriously injured as the movie shows, he also admitted that he let his buddy die when he was asking him for help, I mean, I understand the situation, but it’s true that he didn’t help. This movie as others (the most) shows an unrealistic view of the events to make it intense and entertaining for the audiences, sacrificing verisimilitude.
@@andritm3028 I don’t like that. If Hollywood is going to make a movie based on a “true story”, they need to tell the story accurately, and Luttrell shouldn’t have exaggerated the facts of his story. It could’ve probably still been a decent movie had it been accurate to the real story…. I just feel like when people make movies based on true stories, they have an obligation and duty to make it entirely accurate as possible. I get the entertainment thing, but that’s for action movies. Movies on true stories have an obligation to tell the truth and all of it. Zero exaggerations.
Peter Berg is a fantastic director. First time I ever saw him on screen was in a B movie called Race For Glory in 1991, and later on in a movie called Aspen Extreme. If you are into snow skiing, it's a good watch. Really good story.
Peter berg is also an actor. In fact you missed his cameo in Deepwater horizon. He got on the helicopter when Wahlberg got off and spoke to him. He was also one of the leads in fire in the sky
Cool movie. That aside, the story is fictional, put out to cover up a screw up. It's not just embellished, it's made up. 10-20 enemies, tops, and when Marcus was found his mags were full.
Don't be fooled by this movie. Marcus Luttrell was found with full mags on him, has barely spoken with the man who saved him except to get the photo of them together for this movie, and has even refused to help him and his family claim asylum.
I've seen some reactions for this movie by veterans and they say there are a few things that they capture VERY well. 1) Military Banter- They stay away from the "i'M goNnA bAnG yoUr MoM" tropes and actually make it sound like real people giving each other a hard time in a "military" way. 2) How they brief for the mission- A lot of times in movies they make it look like there is one, High-Ranking guy that gives an entire mission briefing but the reality is, at least in Special Operations, they let the guy that specializes in whatever aspect give a briefing related to their part of the job. 3) The Sound of Battle- The snaps and hisses of the bullets are VERY accurate according to them. 4) The intensity and "two-wayness" of battle- In a lot of movies they make it seem like our guys are border-line invincible until the time comes for them to get hit. They'll take out 10 guys and then get a grazing wound or something. In this a guy gets hit almost immediately and they're getting hit constantly and having to fight wounded. The Taliban guys may not be the most trained fighters or have the best gear but they do know what they're doing and are fighting on their home turf. They are constantly setting themselves up in a way that pushes the SEALs toward cliffs and don't let them maneuver. 5) How hard it is to fight in the daytime- There is a reason Special Operations like to fight at night. They have Night Vision and the bad guys don't. Night vision makes it a lot easier to see the bad guys in contrast to the environment around them. In the day its INCREDIBLY difficult to see where people are in the woods during a firefight. "Fighting during the day sucks" according to them.
16:00 that is the shittiest situation to make a call. Spoke with my brother in law, Army Ranger, and he got to sharing stories. I understand what your saying usually all the weapons and stuff are scrapped when a ship becomes a museum peace like the Queen Marry had all its boilers removed. But not every ship dose some are museum peace’s and still have everything in tacked.

Honestly my favorite Mark Wahlberg movie, it’s intense, shocking and such a good movie, I’m so excited to watch your reaction to this one!!
Intense and shocking is the perfect description for this - they didn't take it easy on the audience at all! Hope you enjoy our reaction! Thank you for your support!
I remember seeing this in the theaters with some vets around the audience.. this was a hard watch .. I can’t even imagine how hard it was for them .. takes a lot for me to shed tears and this is just one of those moments
I tear up every time I hear them say "You're safe Marcus, you're going home.'
Every. Single. Time.
The real Marcus Lutrell was on Joe Rogan, talking about this situation. He said his injury's were actually worse than the movie showed.
You guys need to watch "12 strong" starring Chris Hemsworth which is based on real story of horse soldiers in Afghanistan. Fantastic movie
The person who dumped the coffee on the table and said clean all this up at the beginning is the real Marcus Luttrel, he was on the set for every part of the movie to make sure they got it correct.
Next is 13 Hours: Secret Soldier of Benghazi please!

Denise’s hair looking fabulous out here.
damn so true. I dont notice stuff like that lol but you,re right.
Wanted to drop a like and a comment to boost this one. I had a really hard time getting through this one when I first watched, so I could make it through this whole reaction. I did catch the end and wanted to thank you for making sure that all of the information about these men that was shown at the end made it to your cut here.
Another good one is 13 hours: The secret Soldiers of Benghazi
Or any group less than company strength was a target?”
All of the comments about the size of the enemy force stems from the Taliban released video of the engagement.
All that being said, still all the respect to the KIA from Red Wings.
luttrel and mohammad are good firends wtf are u talking about
You can't honestly stay in communication or visit someone whose half a world away. A relationship like that bares only one phone call a month.
34:36 always keep guard up especially when in the open in the air
Craziest part about this movie is that Luttrell made pretty much the entire thing up! The dude was rescued with every magazine he took on the mission still completely full. Oh and then when the guy that stuck out his neck to save Luttrell started expressing his discomfort with this fabricated story, Luttrell tried to shut him up with threats of deportation back to Afghanistan where he would almost assuredly be a target for the Taliban.
And there was only about 8 insurgents
Plus their actions and planning were negligent. They basically had no idea what they were getting themselves into and overestimated their capabilities. It was a failed operation from the start.
Where’d you hear this from
@@willhughes4228 I saw it on a podcast with a bunch a group of retired seals. They seemed to have good info on what went down. I wasn't there so who knows but Marcus said live he gave up and was a coward and it's the only reason he survived.
Besides you coming off like a complete doorknob he suffered multiple concussions experienced severe trauma that probably caused more memory issues next time don’t comment I guarantee you would never last 2 min of what they went through, you’re made of spare parts bud
Thank-you for showing all of the real men who passed during the operation. I see other reactions where they cut most of the other men outside of the 4. I think that each individual deserves to be recognized even in an edited reaction.
I'm a vet and i cry every time i see this movie. I cried through most your reaction because the brotherhood/sisterhood military member have for each other is beyond what you can imagine. This movie really gives the audience a glimpse into what the specialty units experience. Thank you for this. ❤🇺🇲
They definitely used it as a device to keep the audience on edge!
still can't help but cringe whenever the 'docs' use 'the paddles' to reverse asystole....that machine STOPS your heart, not start it, so your heart will restart spontaneously...it does nothing for a 'flat-line'....still a great tense moment, tho
@Wuichii493 im not even talking about the movie dude

This story just hits hard. Michael Murphy graduated from the same high school I did. I’m 31 now but I still remember the first time I walked into the front lobby of my high school and seeing a memorial to him front and center.
@@afroahmed3989 SEALS seem to be becoming some of the most toxic in the SF community 9 time out of 10 if they have a book deal and a movie they lying and over exaggerating what they did like you say Chris Kyle straight up was a pathological lying Racist who used some very derogatory terms about Iraqis and straight up said he wished he had killed more and every sniper worth their salt has said roughly the same thing no sniper tally's their kills and if they do there's something wrong with then Chris Kyle took joy in what he did where other Snipers wouldn't.

How great that you are reacting to this movie! For many, it is one of the best war films in history, and it's interesting that many veterans consider it one of the most realistic, even though it didn't happen exactly like that. Still, it's very good. Great reaction as always, your enthusiasm and passion really show.
Definitely need to react to patriots day another mark whalberg movie based on a true story
I'm a 77 yr. old disabled Viet. vet & just thankful Marcus survived.
Michael Murphy is a true American hero.

They knew the danger, regardless of what the old man said.

YES! It's an amazing and extremely underrated film.
Marcus’ brother was also a SEAL and is my Congressman
Ben Foster was the MVP of the movie.
His performance in this was incredible!
Time for Shooter (2007) also with Mark Wahlberg

Lots of ocntroversy ove rthis movie as it is quite likely it did not go down at all the way this movie portrays. You can find the real life footage they filmed while chasing them downa nd the firefight and the aftermath form those involved. Most of this is not true the way it went down.
It is indeed a ccntroversy and that rabbit hole is a deep one. Lots of Marines and other service members came forward who were part of Operation Redwing said that his book thus the movie is BS. In my opinion that doesn't changes the fact that this is as outstanding movie.
@@neutchain7838 I can get behind that, it is an excellent movie!
@@neutchain7838 As far as I understand it, he was rescued by Rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment. What would the Marines have known to be able to contradict his story?

@@Christiand2821
As far as I know the whole operation was planned and ran by the USMC ( 2nd battalion 3rd regiment ) The Rangers brought back Luttrell to a marine outpost and the marines were tasked to comb the mountain and recover the bodies of the fallen US personnel.
There is more than this ( some marines on scene, a military journalist doing research on the Korengal, etc.. )
It's been a while since I've been down this rabbit hole but there are quite a few articles around look them up, they go into great detail and actually name their sources.
Solution now in hindsight is we take the Sheppards up the mountain with us until we establish communication and get a extraction on the way.
For instance Mike Williams didn't really get fossil for his daughter and he wasn't on FaceTime with his wife when the engines revved up
Guys, what a great movie!! I recommend battle: Los Angeles (2011) Keep it up!
It may not be the most accurate, but as far as I know Marcus Luttrell is happy with it and that's good enough for me.
Marcus admitted some things were changed to make it more entertaining but it’s mostly accurate according to him.
One of the saddest war movies ever made, and it's based on a true story.
Seriously, this one stuck with us long after watching it - it hit hard!
Great movie reaction. Saw the impact on you guys and your dissection and critique of the film at the end was extremely well done. As one of the commenters above recommended, 13 Hours is one I'd personally would love to see you do. Thanks again...
Its actually nowhere near as crazy as the real story, Marcus has spoke about it. its worth the listen
Yeah and apparently he was found with full mags, wild
@@prime_karmaso he faked everything? What a joke
@@andritm3028 Like Saving Private Ryan. That’s an entirely historically accurate movie.

No, that isn't true at all.
always cracks me up seeing Dan Bilzerian playing a SEAL
Don't be fooled by this movie. Marcus Luttrell was found with full mags on him, has barely spoken with the man who saved him except to get the photo of them together for this movie, and has even refused to help him and his family claim asylum.
did you know the real LONE SURVIVOR was in the movie, the guy with the beanie 5:49
Just throwing this out there that a lot of this movie is a fabrication and jingoistic Marky Mark drivel. Respectfully.
Have you guys seen Battleship? Is a good movie too. Taylor Kitsch is the main guy there, Peter Berg was also there.
This breaks me every time. To know these fellas went through this, and seeing them irl just takes everything from me, faarrk
16:00 that is the shittiest situation to make a call.
Spoke with my brother in law, Army Ranger, and he got to sharing stories. When I say he was numb to stuff he described, it screams that he is built different and he has seen shit. These guys are a different breed and it humbles you to know how amazing a person can become
Moral of the story is Axe was right!
That little kid at the end was fantastic in Bad Words, a great and hilarious Jason Bateman movie in the same year.
