When a principal is "too busy" to take even the threat of a gun seriously, people wonder why there are so many school shootings and why students don't get punished for this crap.
    It's simple apathy.
Our school system may be S888t but it's no reason to allow this BS to happen.

Skip straight to calling the police rather than rely on the principal in that case. If they fire you, you've got a really good case, and you obviously had everyone's well-being in mind so the parents should side with you!

I knew a kid like that in preschool. He was basically insane, kicked a pregnant teacher, somehow stabbed a kid with safety scissors. He kicked and destroyed things, but near the end of the year, he calmed down a lot (not sure why, I think it was meds) and I have ONE good memory of him. He was playing a game called Marble Tower with me, and we just dropped marbles down a tower maze that we had built and had fun racing marbles. I have no idea where he is now, but I hope he’s doing much better.

In a nutshell: most of the kids are like this because their parents spoil them, overtly shield them, or just don't bother to discipline them. And blame the teachers when their kids act up in class when it should've been THEIR responsibility to raise their kids properly.

When I was in 7th-8th grade, I had a study hall class. I loved the teacher, but the students were awful. She taught the Special Education kids. They weren't mentally challenged, but they were slow learners. That was me- I needed SE teachers but learned what everyone else learned.
At Study Skills, what we called the class, it would be the last class of the day and most of the kids didn't want to work. One kid I had other classes with would refuse to work and throw fits when the teacher enforced it.
One day I was having a conversation with the teacher as she was writing an e-mail to the kid's mother about his behavior. He was arguing with her in the hall and called her a F-ing B at the top of his lungs. When she threatened to e-mail his mother, he was begging her not to send it, but she disagreed.
Finally, I heard desks move, so I moved aside as I talked, and right where I was standing, a whole empty row of desks rammed into the teacher's desk. I would have been crushed if I had stayed there. He got sent to the hall IIRC.
Yeah, he wasn't suspended for that. I could give other issues with that school. They pampered one girl because they knew her Mom. I was slowly being neglected at home and my teachers blamed the behavior on me. Years later I went on Google and gave the school 1 star.

The fifth grader who kept accusing people of sexual abuse needs help.
I mean, kids trying to get attention by lying isn’t all that unusual but it should go without saying that this isn’t normal and it just makes me wonder if she was exposed to something she wasn’t supposed to be or was abused at one time/knew somebody who was.
Clearly the mom didn’t give af though so I’m not optimistic she will ever get the help she needs.

About 15 years ago my friend and her partner placed their 4 year old son, who had some really serious behavioural issues as well as having Aspergers (not formally diagnosed), into a Rudolf Steiner kindergarten, which meant he’d be dropped off at the house of the teacher 3/4 days a week. He and 5 other children were in his ‘class’.
IMHO, it really ran like a day care with a smattering of learning thrown in. Anyway, my friend and her partner were often asked to come pick him up because of his angry refusal to do ANYTHING the teacher asked and his violence towards her and the kids.
In the latter half of the school year, his teacher let her students’ parents know that someone from the Rudolf Steiner school would be attending her ‘class’ as a means to assess it over 6 weeks. The teacher called my friend and her partner and asked them not to bring their son in for 6 weeks.
They agreed.....(which was rather good of them, I think.)

I dabbled a bit in education as a teacher's assistant and tutor. No way in hell I could dedicate a career to teaching. I'd probably get fired for one of two reasons.
    1. If they dgaf enough to actually do the work, I wouldn't care if they fail. I'd just focus on the kids who want to learn. If the bad apples spread their misbehavior to so many of their peers that the class becomes unteachable, I'd stop trying and maybe just pass them along to get rid of them. They'd be unprepared for the next grade and it would be their own fault IMHO. But administration would probably think differently.
    2. I will instinctively and without hesitation use violence to defend myself. Children are not exempt from this if they attack me. I will use whatever force I feel is necessary in the moment. If that means punching out or body slamming a little shit, so be it. I strongly believe in self-defense as a human right would not last in position where I'm expected to accept abuse.

I’m not a teacher, but about 28 years ago or something, there was a girl I went to high school with, (for privacy reasons I’ll call her Christie). She had an awfully uncomfortable vibe, she was aggressive towards other students, she was constantly rude to teachers. One day my friend who I’ll call Emma was caught in an argument with Christie, who claimed Emma had called her a b***h, which she hadn’t. It was escalating and Christie started to get violent. She threw Emma to the ground and kicked her in the stomach multiple times to the point that she threw up. Then, she punched Emma until she got a broken nose and black eye. Then, Emma’s older brother hit Christie over the head 5 times with a metal water bottle and she got a concussion. She was expelled after that. Years later she got married, had kids, got divorced, did drugs and alcohol, abused her own children severely, had CPS called on her, lost custody of her children and went to jail.

I wasn't the teacher. I was in the class with the kid. Let me tell you the story of the Scottish legend of Tommy Hawthorn.
Tommy was a small very fat kid with a very heavy Scottish accent. We were in a school in Cornwall (South West England) so his voice really stuck out. Anytime there was a substitute teacher Tommy was uncontrollable. He was always bullying another kid called Connor (who had anger issues and would dive under tables and howl like a werewolf) anytime Connor was on a rampage chasing Tommy around the classroom they were both unstoppable even for a pair of 9 year olds. Once the substitute teacher managed to calm Connor down and get him sat in his chair (and still growling and snarling). The substitute then turned on Tommy. She gave some sort of lecture on "do you think this is appropriate for the classroom"? Tommy looked this 60-70 something year old woman and in his heavy Scottish accent said "f@!# off you wrinkly old bag" and in her shock he just calmly strolled out like he could do whatever.
That teacher never substituted us again.
Tommy disappeared shortly afterwards as he only stayed in our school for literally about 6-8 weeks.
Connor grew out of his werewolf and vampire obsession by the end of the year but was always the person you'd least want to sit next to. (Mostly due to his smell, his gross habits like picking his nose and the rumours that he had fleas)

A 1st grader who would scream, cry, throw things, steal things, hit/punch classmates and teachers, pull hair, destroy anything in reach if he was told no or didn’t get something he wanted. This occurred several times a day and anything could trigger him. He would whine and cry when expected to actually focus and try to do an activity. Even a classmates that got too close to “his space” would be targeted and screamed at/bullied into submission. He felt entitled to do nothing, have everything, and do only what seemed fun and easy. His parents thought his teachers, school councilors and principals were all lying, their precious baby could do no wrong. They pulled him out and switched schools, thankfully. I heard from his new school what I thought all along, the problems followed the kid because he was the problem.

I work in adult education (German class for refugees). One of them is a literacy class (you know ppl. who can only read arabic/russian/etc. but not european). This student (m age 40) was not a good noodle to beginn with: Always late , never brings materials, disrupting others....you get the pic.
One day he was late (as usuall) and sat next to another student , who was working on the task I had given out , and startet disrupting him/her.
I said in French (the language he understands, didn´t speak much German at the time , first class): "Please go sit over there and stop bothering others and get to the tasks, H!" just polite, you know. Without warning he starts shouting most agressivly: " I STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and that was the straw that broke the camels back for me.
I opend the door and said : "Get out!" he ignored me so I said in Arab (guy was from Syria): "
aikhruj!!!!!" (get out) pointing at the hall. He made his way to the door and I (in French) informed him, that if he ever came back to this class I would call the police on him and he left.
Seconds after he left and slammed the front door of the building shut, you could feel a wave of relief brush through the remaining group of students (all adults). Aparently he had been intimadating all of them , which I didn´t realise at the time (don´t speak Arab, apart from single words) and (as they told me) he was quite a psycho too.
I saw him again later, where he tried to sneak another literacy class (was years later and I had then found out, that my class had in fact not been his first literacy class and he had had multiple of them) and I told my collegue who was working his case at the time, that Mr. XX had already had all the literacy programms he was entitled to and that he had been complaining tat he already knew all that I thought in my literacy class (duh, you had about 3 of them...).
Shuthead wanted another literacy programm so he wouldn´t have to work hard (Refugees are required to go to German class here, or their income they get from the gouvernment will be reduced.) like he would have to in higher levels of German class. But after I said that my collegue told the guy that he had to go into higher levels of German class .
Don´t know what happend to this guy after.
Just glad to be rid of him, smh.

I'm not a teacher, but I used to work at a Zoo and one of my jobs included taking visiting school children around and teaching them about the animals. In my experience I quickly discovered that almost every school had that one annoying kid. They could've been the dumbest kid in the class who would ask idiotic questions that you'd struggle to find answers for, or they could've been the smartest kid who would always ask awkward questions or try to point out that you're wrong as a way to look smarter, or they could've been the class troublemaker. And they would always be the damn kid who'd never leave you alone, always talking and asking questions when you were trying to tell them some interesting facts. Now normally their teachers would help and tell them to let someone else ask some questions to shut them up, but every now and then you'd get teachers whose attitude was pretty much "ha! They're your problem now, prick!"
I think the worst one I ever had was this kid who'd just point to an animal, and loudly and obnoxiously shout "WASSAT WASSAT!" So I'd start to talk about said animal, but the same kid would then rudely interrupt me and say "DO IT BITE YA!" He was just obsessed with the idea of animals that would bite! Now, the first couple of times this kid did it, admittedly it was funny. However, by what felt like the 90th time this kid said those same damn words, I was desperately looking over at the teachers in a way that said "ok, you seriously need to stop him from saying that now!" They didn't give a damn! It's like they had just given up on this poor kid.

It sounds backwards but my district said it actually to protect our licenses and careers so that parents can’t come after us. In my state, if you aren’t trained to restrain a student, you cannot touch them no matter what they are doing unless they’re a danger to OTHER students like they have a gun or something. Since we are adults, we are fair game basically. It’s dumb.

Not a teacher, but I wanna talk about one of my high school teachers
Now I had a fair few teachers in high school, some were atrociously bad at their job, and others were insanely good
There was one teacher who most people didn’t like, because she was strict, not too casual with students, and she very clearly played favourites (her favourites were the entire football team)
I had her for my Pre Calc class and nearing the end of the semester, my passing the class would all come down to my final exam, if I failed the exam, I’d fail the class
Normally with that exam, there are a few rules in place but the two most important rules are
    1. The teacher cannot help you, you’re on your own
    2. You can only write for a maximum of 2 hours, once those 2 hours are up, it doesn’t matter if you’re done or not, you hand it in
I was super stressed and did the work as best as I could, but by the 1 hour 30 minute mark, I was nowhere close to done the exam, and struggling IMMENSELY
I deserved to fail too, because I never did any of the work, I passed all of the tests pretty well, but I had done so little of the work necessary for a passing grade that I didn’t deserve what came next
The teacher saw the stress on my face, she could see that I was giving up
And like the saint she chose to be, she wouldn’t give up on me
She got up from her desk, pulled up a chair, and sat down next to me, helping me get through the rest of the test
It still took a while though, the test began at 8:00 on the dot, and by the time I was done, it was 11:30, she’d let me continue writing for an hour and a half after all hope should’ve been lost
Then she took my exam, we walked up to her desk, and she put in the final marks
46% out of the required 50% to pass, I failed the class
I had expected it, and was gonna just leave, disappointed in myself
This teacher still didn’t want to give up on me, and more importantly, she didn’t want me to give up on myself
When looking back at my unit exam marks and small quizzes, she saw that I was pretty good with math, she knew that my problem was that I just didn’t try hard enough, I didn’t put in the effort to reach a proper passing grade, she even acknowledged that I could’ve been an honour’s student if I’d just TRIED
So, she told me to come back to her desk
I watched with utter disbelief as my grade bumped up to a 55%, an above passing grade
I asked why she did that, and she told me “Because my job is to help students succeed, I see potential in you, so even if you’re ready to quit, I’m not gonna let you go down that easy, just try, and you’ll see, you’re smarter than even you know.”
After that day, it didn’t matter what anyone said about her, what anyone complained about when it came to her, I did not disrespect that woman
She showed me mercy and care when I didn’t do a damn thing to deserve it
Few years later she was my younger sister’s math teacher, and my younger sister HATED her
When it came to teachers, I would often agree with my sister’s analyses on them, because they were pretty accurate
When she called that teacher a bitch, I stayed silent
My sister pointed out how normally I’d agree, and I simply said “She helped me, showed me mercy, when I didn’t do anything to deserve it, I utterly refuse to disrespect her”
She later went on to become a trainer for my city’s football team

TL:DR: Kid hated teacher for basically no reason.
Not a teacher, but I think I can say one for a teacher of mine in 7th grade.
This one kid, we'll call Glenn for this story, wasn't exactly a bad kid in any other classes (yet). While he had his moments, they weren't very common in other classes. In my Reading class, this was a whole different story. My teacher, that we'll call Ms. Smith, was an older woman who wasn't too bad of a teacher. For whatever reason though, Glenn loved to terrorize her pretty much. If she even were to look at him, he would basically get so mad for some reason. He would throw his trapper her direction, he would yell at her. For whatever reason he just wanted to make that class a living hell for her. One day however, Glenn was removed from the basketball team, and everyone noticed. As it turns out he apparently punched Ms. Smith in the side of the face (Funny yet sad thing is that this wouldn't be the last time she would be hit by a kid that year). Now Glenn was a small kid so I'd assume it didn't hurt much, and Ms. Smith wasn't a weak teacher despite being a bit older. He never was in her classes again after that, and only showed up to school maybe 5 times after that before being transferred to an alternative school. To which the last time was when he threw a milk carton at one of the teachers during lunch. I saw him one more time after that in the computer section of the Public Library. He seemed like himself before he got switched to a different school. I'm sure he wasn't a bad kid, but for whatever reason just hated Ms. Smith for no reason at all.
EDIT: I'm not saying Ms. Smith getting hit was funny on it's own, it's just that with my school being fairly good outside of maybe a fight or two. So the idea of a teacher being hit was very low, let alone twice. So Ms. Smith getting hit twice felt like that one scene from the Phineas and Ferb movie when Doofenshmirtz said "Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I was doomed by a puppet, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice."

Some of these kids and many of these parents would not be able to pass what I know as a marshmallow test, if you’re not a psych major, you may not know what this is, so I’ll break it down for you. The marshmallow task was a test done at one time by some psychologist somewhere, don’t ask me how aware, more or where but like this: you have a kids room and you put Marshall in front of them, you tell them they can eat that one marshmallow now, or, pay attention to the or they can wait. I want to say is about five minutes, which mind you for preschoolers is a pretty darn long time, and they would get two marshmallows, one on top of the. Was this: I think it was, if you waited, you got the second marshmallow, if you didn’t, you only got one marshmallow. It’s a test for understanding delay gratification. Sorry for the mess that dictation made of that.

So not a teacher, but an aide. I used to work at a preppy NY suburban public school. I walk into the 10th grade class in 2019 mind you all, and NONE of the students in special ed knew who HILLARY CLINTON or TRUMP was. THE WHOLE CLASS DIDN'T KNOW THE PRESIDENT.OF THE UNITED STATES. So time for the student, he was not in special ed he just always wanted to cause confusion and chaos. So I'm monitoring the SAT and hear this student call someone about the answers. My co worker and I immediately go to the principal and report the student. The principal calmly says to us "lets sweep this under the rug." I ended up leaving the school shortly after and the student got a full ride scholarship to NYU which he graduated from by you guessed it, cheating.
