  • Producers strive to optimize yields, while maximizing the efficiency and minimizing waste with each spray pass. Selecting the right nozzles and adjuvants for spray mixes is important for efficient and effective crop management.
Martin Carr, agronomy manager with WinField United Canada, says the decision making process when it comes to sprayer nozzles includes looking at nozzle type, nozzle calibration, and ensuring that the nozzles are not worn out. Carr adds that flow isn't the only measure of a properly working nozzle - spray pattern and droplet size matter too. While producers may see water coming through the nozzle, the question to ask is if it is actually distributing the liquid as it should be, he says.
When purchasing a new set of nozzles it is important to recognize that too fine a nozzle can lead to drift, off-target movement, evaporation and weed escape, while using too coarse a nozzle can drastically reduce your coverage.
In this video, RealAgriculture's Shaun Haney is joined by Carr to discuss sprayer nozzle selection, how nozzles can affect the efficacy of tank mix selection and how adjuvants can help to get a tighter spectrum of spray coming out of the nozzle.
